Just got an email from UGA- Interview is Feb. 8th

UMass Amherst-- Clinical Psychology, phone invite, interview Feb 1-2

I interviewed there several years ago but they didn't admit me. It's a great program, if you can beat the odds. (I think they admit 6 out of 300.) But way to go!! Good luck!

Just got all excited/nervous when I saw UMass - but I applied to UMass Boston 😛 Ahhh the wait continues... Congrats on Amherst! :hardy:

Wow, 6 out of 300? I wonder how many they bring in for interviews?

Got an email from Nebraska at Lincoln saying that my file is complete and that the faculty are in the middle of reviewing files now....and that I should probably hear something from them towards the end of next week.

same thing happened with me!! I also applied to UMass Boston!

Haha. I just want to be included - I ALSO applied to UMass Boston. No word yet though. I frantically check my phone/E-mail every day. :-/ I'm way too nervous to answer the phone if I see an unknown number though because I don't want to be interviewed off guard. Haha.

hahaha, that is exactly what i am feeling as well, im scared to answer from an unknown number!! I think I might make a word document that lists all of my POI's and their research and the course curriculum and basically anything that I could find and make copies of that and keep one by my computer and one in my car and another in my purse just so I have everything covered in case I get a phone call!!

That's a good point....I mean what do they ask in these phone interviews???? I don't want to be caught off guard cause I didnt even know they did that....

Ppl who have been interviewed: any word of advice?

again, matters on the person and the school's procedure.

situation 1: you get an email to set up a phone conversation.
you should: be prepared to ask simple questions, answer questions, advice would be to think of 1-2 questions to ask, be knowledgeable of the professor's work, and be able to answer questions about what you do and want to do

situation 2: you get a phone call and they want to chat a bit
you should: be able to speak clearly and not get too jumbled, but they are calling you out of the blue so they cant expect you to be prepared (like in situation 1)

situation 3: you get a phone call and all the do is tell you your app was great and they want you to come for an interview
you should: be appreciative that you now have an interview there and have time to prepare for it

remember: professors are people, not gods or untouchable creatures or whatever you may imagine. they also did this themselves at some point (the older the less they remember what its like, though) and in no way have expectations of you to miraculously be prepared the second they call for a full hour interview. and if you come across someone who does have miraculous thinking, you might want to re-think if its the right match for you if you are not the type of person who can really be ok with that.

Hello,

I got an invitation by email today, for an interview at the University of Vermont on February 15th.
This is for the Clinical Psychology PhD program.

Good luck everyone!

I also applied to Nebraska, but I didn't get that email.

It's hard not to stress about every little thing... 🙁

Awesome school, I interviewed there last year. Who are you interviewing with? (feel free to PM if you don't want to post). Their DCT is just one of the most amazingly nice people I have ever had contact with.

Was a tough choice between there and my current school. I don't think I could have gone wrong either way.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to contribute to the phone interview discussion.

I've already talked with two professors on the phone. I was never prepared when they called, but I picked up, and the first thing they asked me was: when would be a good time for you to chat about your application?

So the bottom line is, professors don't expect you to be ready to do a phone interview if they are calling you out of the blue. Chances are they will just call or email to set up such an interview.

At one point while chatting with a professor, I started going into a lot of details about the research I would like to do. The professor said something like: "Wait, I don't expect you to already have a study planned out with hypotheses and methods and everything. I know you have plenty of other things to do right now!" This was really relieving. We do have to think about themes we want to study, and questions we want to answer while we're in grad school, but we don't need to have an outline for our dissertation yet.

I hope this helps a little bit, and that most interviewers are like the ones I talked to!

Good luck 🙂

don't worry, i stalked them out and they replied to my email asking if my application was complete -- it wasn't personal! sorry if i stressed you out!!

phew! 😀 i was starting to think that they had already decided to reject me or that they got my email address wrong... ohh the places your thoughts will go. hopefully we'll both hear good news from them!!

Two of the people I work with got calls from their POIs today with a short phone interview followed by in person invites

University of Miami- Adult Clinical PhD (Interview is Feb. 1st)
Vanderbilt University-(Interview is I think Feb. 4th-definitely that weekend)

for vandy that is interesting. i think 2nd years are in charge since I haven't heard anything about this, but last year, we interviewed on a Friday (Feb 9th). Interesting that it would be on a monday this year.

Does anyone know if Virginia Commonwealth has also done invites for clinical? Or is it just counseling so far?

Among others, I applied to VCU and Clark, and I'm seeing that people have heard something while I have not...not a good start. I hope I at least get an interview this year.

I hope not! I haven't heard a peep out of them. Sent an email yesterday to ask if my application is complete and if inteviews have gone out. They haven't responded. It looks like (according to this thread) only counseling invites have gone out so far, unless you know of something different.

Ya, the thread only mentions counseling, but then again I don't expect that there are people here that applied to all the programs I applied to, so I just wanted to check. And I know nothing about it, my application is complete, but thats as far as I know.

phone invite to U of South Florida school psych interviews 2/1 and 2/15

phone invite to U of South Florida school psych interviews 2/1 and 2/15

ugh! when did they call???? I actually already have interviews both those dates but I really wanted to go to USF.

edit: school psych. not clinical? I need to breathe

hey guys, fyi, vandy's visiting weekend is Feb 15 and 16.

USF Clinical will be 2/8 and 2/22.

I'm not sure I'm supposed to say that or not, but if they didn't want people to know when open house was, the department website was probably not a good place to put that information😉

Thanks. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that I get an invite, cause I can be there on the 22nd!

i guess asu (clinical) put out a second round of invites because i didn't get one last week, but got one today...they are on 2/8 or 2/11

For those who went through this dog and pony show last year, does anyone recall when George Washington and Loyola (MD) sent out interview invites for their Psy.D programs?

Hi everyone. I jsut registered but I've been reading the forums often. Thanks for everyone's input and congrats to everyone who's undertaking this process (interviews or no offers as of yet (the latter hang in there its still early), still a pain the neck to go through). Anyway, I see someone had a SBU interview earlier this month. I have an upcoming one in a few weeks. Any feedback?

I'm also interested in Loyola (MD) and had looked through last year's thread a while ago. Last year someone reported getting an invite on 1/30. For G.W. you could try to do the same thing (see my note earlier in this year's thread about how to search last year's thread).

the page 1 listing says someone got a phone invite to interview at Pittsburgh. has anyone else heard anything?

hey guys, fyi, vandy's visiting weekend is Feb 15 and 16.

Interesting, I just got a call from my POI and she invited me out for the 4th. Are there two separate interview days?

Just out of curiosity...what's the smallest amount of time any of you have been given between time of interview invite and the actual interview? (not counting phone interviews. In person only).

I suspect that you are probably safe divulging that oh, so top secret information then. 😛

I was contemplating on whether or not to post my program's open house dates but quickly decided against it once I realized that it's actually not posted on the website yet. I have not heard anyone inquiring about 'em so I suspect there's currently no interest anyway. Damn cornfields scare people away! :meanie:

I know, I have held back on my school's info just because I haven't seen anyone say they applied here. Once invites are out, if no one has mentioned it, I will post the date and everything.

Hi all!
Have applied to a total of one program... which now seems a wee bit silly having read my way through this thread! Anyway, it's Pepperdine's PsyD... I didn't make the early consideration deadline (got my application in with just hours to spare), but was wondering if anyone's heard from them? It's been a couple of weeks now! Would be so grateful for any info!
Good luck to you all!xxx

When I think cornfields, I think Iowa. I've applied to Iowa State's Counseling PhD program ... is that your school?

I've heard excellent things about that program (I considered it as one of my internship sites). I actually just met someone from there not too long ago, and was pretty impressed by her experiences there. For whatever that's worth.

We actually have a few people from Iowa in our program (students & at least one professor), but no, I'm not in Iowa myself. G'luck!

I interviewed there last year. IA State's Counseling ROCKS. Hope you love research, though.

Good luck this week everyone!!!:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Interview from Temple--Dates are Feb 1st and Monday Feb 4th (they didn't give much notice!). The invitation was sent by email.

I don't know t, this has a long way to go to catch up with the thread from last year. It had 1,855 posts and 117,607 views!

Someone should do correlational work on views and GRE scores, personality variables, worrisomeness, anxiety, etc. I don't know that you could conlude much but it would be interesting to compare this cohort with the group from last year.

Also, for what it is worth, the people on this board usually do VERY well with getting into great schools...or at least it has seemed that way for the last three years. Not sure why that is but maybe it will give you some hope!

Last's year thread was on FIRE! You read through it, and go back to the main page and there would be new posts!

It seems that many people who post on here put a lot of effort into the process, and that definitely helps. I know when I was applying (pre-SDN) I didn't know half of what many of you know now. I'm hoping I can help pass on whatever we learn as a group each year, so that future applicants can find the best fit for their training goals.

I got an interveiw at C.W. Post PsyD program for Feb 3rd. I think they offer interviews various weekends though.

I wonder how many of those hits have happened *this* application year. I don't know about yall but I've contributed a good number of hits to that thread recently just looking back to see when my schools typically contact people 😛

Sorry - what is C.W. short for? Also, C.W. Post Univ, C.W. Post College...? Just want to make sure I list it correctly 🙂
