Yeah, last year SDSU didn't receive my GRE scores even though they were sent at the beginning of October, never heard anything until invites were extended 🙁 ETS is awful at sending them, but claims they sent it and that SDSU didn't check the email, who knows.

Ever since my two interviews a few weeks ago, I haven't been able to stop checking my cell phone to see if any of the schools have called. Seriously, it's not like staring at it is going to make it ring any sooner. This sucks.

As everyone can see, I heard back today from Empathiosis (my PO(L)I - Person Of Love Interest
).I had not heard back from her and had not seen any other SDN Psychology posts of SDNers who had applied to date her. I was already to call or e-mail her admissions office to see what my status was. I thought that based on my grades, test scores, research, and clinical experience that I at least deserved an interview! (don't we all 😀). My on-line status revealed nothing except that all of my documents were received. I checked the 2007 Empathiosis data which revealed that thousands applied an no one was accepted - More difficult than Yale! And then I received the aforementioned response. However, I am not sure what to make of it. Is it an invite for an interview, or an outright acceptance, a waitlist, or maybe an ambiguous/ kind rejection. Empathiosis only mentions not letting the traffic get in my way. She doesn't mention if she reimburses for travel expenses, food, or lodging! OH! I am so confused! 😕 Please help! My heart longs to stroll down Coney Island Ave. with Empathiosis in her twead suit! 😍 I was so happy today when she was rejected from Virginia Consortium. Now those southerners will not be stealing away by beloved!😍

It's over guys -- I spoke with 2 people who have connections w/ people high up on the admissions committee and they extended most of their invites last Friday. Sandy never called or emailed me back to explain the whole "transcript" mystery. One thing to note is that EVEN though your POI might have been listed as "accepting" a new student (and vise versa - if they were listed as not accepting a new student), apparently that is not updated regularly and there is still a good chance you just applied during a year that none of your POI's decided to accept. It sucks, but it really is true.

I got my first rejection last night, from Loyola U Chicago (not that I was surprised). Still, I can't say it didn't sting.
I'm holding out hope that I'm waitlisted at the other schools on here that I haven't gotten an interview with yet. We'll see.
Question about U of Michigan:
Their website says they will be letting students know in Feb, but mentions nothing about interviewing as part of the decision process. Does anyone know if they interview/don't interview?

Just curious, did the loyola rejection come as an official letter in the mail? I'm expecting a rejection from them too, so you're not alone! I should probably check my mailbox tonight🙁 My heart sinks when I get those "We're sorry to inform you...." letters.

Actually, the letter came as snail mail, but to my address at my permanent home (I'm at school right now). So even though they have my current address, they sent it to my permanent one. Oh well.
My permanent address is only about 25 miles outside of Chicago though, so maybe mine just got there early. You never know though--you might be waitlisted! I'll hope for the best for you!

I feel the Loyola-Chicago pain. I was so convinced that I would get an interview this time around. I matched well, have a masters, have competitive GRE's, good recommendations, experience, personal statement, blah blah blah. Not even a, "Hey, lets at least talk to this person."

GiantSteps.....I'm officially seeking to recruit you. 😍 If Empathiosis will not give you an interview, I will give you one. I'm just a simple state school, but I have a really attractive campus. However, make no mistake......I am no one's safety school. And yes, if you blow the interview, you are out of further consideration. State schools tend to be a lot more flexible.....in many ways........

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but doesn't it stand to reason that if you didn't get invited to interview you are probably not on the waitlist?
My understanding is that the top candidates get invited to interview, and then the best out of THOSE candidates are extended offers.
Wouldn't it make sense that schools put the people that were interviewed, liked, but beaten out by a slightly better candidate onto the waitlist, rather than somebody they haven't even met?
Basically, I'm just assuming that I'm not getting in to any school that hasn't extended an invitation to me, and I'm not getting on their waitlist either. If something else happens that will be a delightful surprise, but I'm not putting any faith in it.

I think it depends on the school. When I applied a few years ago, I was waitlisted at a school I wasnt invited to interview with. I'm guessing the people they had extended interviews to and didnt get offers would be higher up on the waitlist than the people they didnt interview. Just my thought.

Hard to say. I know for med school, the month of April becomes a game of dominoes. People pick schools, freeing up other spots which then get taken by other applicants, which in turn frees up more spots. It's a big cascade.
The "slightly better candidates" may have committed other programs. Things happen.
A rejection is a rejection, but until that happens, a butterfly may flap its wings in Brazil, causing Romney to withdraw from the presidential race, causing someone to get into a program without even interviewing.
Hope does spring eternal, though I wouldn't bet my house on it.

I just received a call from a professor at Washington State who was conducting a preliminary phone interview to see if she'd be willing to invite me for an actual interview. The problem is, that she's not my main POI (he's not accepting students, as it turns out)...I think she was someone I mentioned as a secondary interest. I doubt she'll invite me for the actual interview, but what do I say if she does?
How do I polite reject the interview offer? I would probably take it, but I'm already low on funds from flights to other interviews/schools, which are definitely more in line with my interests. If anyone is in a similar predicament, let me know if you have advice!

YES. All schools listed on the first post have at least *started* to extend invites. No info as to if they (Boston) have extended all invites.

LOL, do you have an internship program? I might be interested in applying to that, the thought of enjoying your campus without all the pretentiousness seems attractive.

This is sometimes true, but not always. It does depend on the school. Some schools will invite several times more interviewees than they could ever accept, so that their waitpool is the leftover interviewees who were not extended initial admissions offers.
Some other schools, however, will invite a very small number of applicants, like say each POI gets to invite 3-4. It is possible- (I have mentioned this in an earlier post some time ago, as well) that a professor might extend an offer to his favorite candidate, but that applicant turns down his offer. Say that the POI then intends to extend that offer to 1 of the 2 next candidates in line, but they, too have accepted to other programs in the meantime. That leaves that POI with maybe 1 or 2 candidates that he interviewed that he could possibly give the offer to, but what if the POI really disliked that last candidate or two? It is entirely possible to interview with a professor and have he or she think you were absolutely not a good match. So then the POI has to dig back through the pile and start considering and/or contacting other applicants who were not interviewed, but could be more viable options than the 2 leftover interviewed candidates with whom he did not mesh well.
I have been both the candidate with whom the POI did not like, and the applicant who was put on several waitlists at schools, even at which I did not receive and interview. It turned out to be totally fruitless for me, but a no-interview school does not always = admissions death.

1. Georgia State U, UNOFFICIAL word, there is a possiblity they may ask a few more people to come, they are having a meeting on Monday. Otherwise rejection letters will not be mailed for up to two weeks.
2. Texas A&M: They have no waitlist currently, however no acceptances or rejections have been offered either.
3. Case Western - there is a chance they will also invite a few more people for their second interviews.
4. East Carolina - Has not extended their offers for their interview dates yet, however they do not know exactly when they will. Interview date set for 03/03.

I also was concerned when I saw that notification of E-mail invites from NSU. I'm not sure who was responsible for that post, but I can confidently assure you it is misleading. I called Nova's admissions department this morning and they said they just sent out letters yesterday via regular (or I guess what many of you refer to as, "snail mail"). Also, I was invited to interview there two years ago and they used that method as well. So please, dont stress yourself and be patient. You should receive a letter in the mail within the next week or two (regardless of whether or not you were invited to interview).

Based on the info I've gotten (from applicants), the PhD program sent out a mass e-mail interview invitation with details to come via snail mail.
In regards to both the PhD and PsyD programs, I would like to politely point out that if anybody on the boards knows what Nova Southeastern is doing...it's T4C. So personally, I would trust that information.

I would just like to know if any of you are attending Hofstra's "Interview Bonanza" on the 29th. I live in NY, so I am relatively close proximity to the campus. Since we are all in this together (despite the apparant overarching competetiveness of some) , I would like to extend not only a heartfelt congratulations to you, but an open invitation for a gathering (details unknown at this point, lol) the night before our big day. Also, if any of you are out of state and need a place to crash, you are more than welcome to stay at my place. FYI, I have a dog, so if you are allergic to/phobic of dogs, consider yourself warned!

I am waiting to hear back from U Oregon Counseling too. Their deadline was 1/11 so I would definitely assume that they are still reviewing apps and inviting people (hope hope).

I think I am more stressed than I should be. NOVA is my number one choice. They are more of an interest than others for me. However, my GRE scores are not up to part but, I have experience working as a counselor with MH inmates, 4.0 gpa, great letters of recommendation, and have been published. I have been going back and forth in my head as to rather they would even look twice. It is my understanding that the number of application received is high and therefore i'm likely at the bottom due to my scores.
