Huh? NYU does accept letters from lab profs (as long as it's not used to fulfill the science letter requirement).

That was the point... you can't use lab profs or research mentors as your science letter. I just mistakingly thought they required more than one science professor, since most people can get one, but have difficulty with two.

ok to anyone whos working on EVMS application. They say...

Briefly describe your exposure to medicine.

I'm thinking it means give a brief summary of what youve done. So I basically I just listed whatever activities I considered to be medically related. Or should I be going more in depth?

I just got Loyola's Secondary and I don't have such great stats. I am stoked.

BTW. I just got the email from UCSF also.

So now I can get into the application and have it all filled out but cannot submit it.. Anybody get it to submit? When I hit submit it just reloads to the top of the page 😕

I still can't get it to open 🙁

I also listed but in sentence form. I think in the end I had about 4-5 sentences. I am under the impression that when a medical school uses the word 'brief' they really mean it-especially considering the number of applications they have to get through.

Anyone get secondaries from the following schools yet?

Albany Medical College
Creighton University
Drexel University
Howard University
Loyola University Chicago
New York Medical College
University of Maryland
Wake Forest University

I see we have one for nyu, and I saw someone got wake forest's. Ha actually like I dont already have the other 8 secondaries waiting for me, lol.

loyola sends to selected applicants.
albany, drexel, nymc have not been sent out yet.

Got Albany this afternoon.
2 Essays:
Describe yourself (1000 Char)
If selected for in interview, what one life event would you like to talk about (160 Char)

Here ya go

FOr NYu Sec...should I put in other course work in lieu of my AP for the ugrad basic sciences? like for example, instead of just AP biology, should I add in Genetics and Cell Bio as evidence of upper level coursework?

For the section about which courses you're taking, it asks for "academic year." Does this mean I should list the year that it started, like 2005, even if it was the winter semester in 2006? Does that make sense?

On the VCU secondary, did anyone else have all the formatting removed from their essays? It looked intentional, but it didn't say anywhere that this was to be expected, like some other apps.

Someone wanna post the whole list with all of the updates?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the sticky.

Yeah unfortunately, you can't have indentations. Your essay will just be one big blob.

Mine does the same, have you figured it out yet?

I have VCU & Wake and I was verified around June 21st.

Have you closed the window and then come back? I'm worried that if I do that, it will all have to be filled in again.

I did that and it was still filled out...but couldn't be submitted. Also, I didn't have any countries to use other than A-B...so I guessed by alphabetical order and got it. They're having some troubles...

I put my upper level for bio, and said my lab was a future course (since apparently I only got exempted from taking the lab, instead of getting credit for it). I also put in an additional English course I took, just to prove I wasn't trying to skip out on it.

I was verified June 21st and I just got Loyola's today, however I've been emailed by Wake and VCU, but no word on update from them for about a week now.

for those of you that received secondaries from vcu, wake and loyola, when was your amcas verified?

Verified 6/13
VCU received (by email) 7/14
loyola snail mailed 7/12
CA resident

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the sticky.

UVM must have sent out another batch yesterday - finally got my email invite to go to their site "to complete the secondary." Anyone else NOT see a secondary on their Online Applicant Center? You login with your AAMC ID, reset the password and then... nothing's there. Anyone run into this, before I call UVM and sound like an idiot?

did wake forest screen for secondaries this year??

Out of curiosity, anyone know exactly how long it takes some schools to update LORs on your profile? For example, I sent my LORs electronically via Interfolio to Jefferson last week, but they still haven't updated it on my profile as "received".

On my essays it just looks bad, but they're still readable. For my publications, however, its a huge illegible mess. I doubt they're going to take the time to read through that mess. Oh well, its their fault for having a crappy application program.😡

Verified 6/7
VCU 7/11
Out-of-state, MD/PhD

Schools aren't exactly lightning quick about this. Jefferson in particular took awhile. It depends on how often they download them and how quickly they can match them to your file. Patience is key here.

Have any instate people received a Wake forest secondary yet or is it only out of state people?

Yeah I got a secondary from Wake and I'm instate.

If you're worried about it, you can always call or e-mail. I was concerned about my LOR status at Cornell, and so I e-mailed them, and they were very nice about responding. Or it seemed that they were nice, anyway. They may be snarling on the other side of the computer, but...

Yes, I got an email from Wake today saying that I am on hold until they receive my MCAT scores so they can make a determination as to whether or not to send me a secondary invite.

I got the same email, but I am not retaking the MCAT. 🙁
So I told them to go ahead and process my application.

so the MSSM essays have a "suggested" word limit...250 or less for the first, and 200 for the second...since it's suggested...is it okay if it's a bit over? my second one is 215 words and i've tried rewording and cutting but that's as low as i can get it...will this be frowned upon?😕

sorry if there is an easy answer to this but, for this Sinai question:

Gaps in Academic Record

Were there any gaps in time, post-secondary school, of greater than one month's duration, except summer vacations, that are not accounted for on your AMCAS application?

does this include if I am taking a year off before medical school and didn't explain it in AMCAS? or just if someone took time off during undergrad?

thanks in advance!

I'd assume it means taking a year off before medical school as well. I don't think there was a question about 'if you're not in school for the 2007-2008 school year...'

As a side note, is anyone complete at Cornell? How long did it take from the time you sent your letters off til the time you were complete?

I just got MSSM and Albany
let the fun begin!

really? i didnt take it that way so i didnt write anything, even though i am taking this year off. oh well.

has anyone gotten any confirmation notices from hopkins after submitting the secondary? is anyone officially "complete" yet? they should have all my stuff as of 2+ weeks ago, but I haven't gotten word yet. They are probably just swamped, but I wanted to make sure to see if something got lost in the mail, etc.

The only email I've gotten recently is one stating that they've received my secondary application.

How much detail do you give for your plans for 07/2007 to 07/2008?
