Hello all!

If anyone applied to UF counseling, I just wanted to let you know I called the graduate coordinator to ask if there was an interview process (there is no information either way on the website). She said some years there is, some there isn't and so far she hasn't been told whether or not there will be one for this year. The FAQ on the website says they let you know in March/Early April of your decision.

Has anyone heard anything regardless?

Hi all,
Thought to share some info on SUNY at Stony Brook. I contacted through e-mail both profs of interest that I mentioned in my SOP (and had also contacted through e-mail before applying). One of them told me he had already selected his top 3 candidates to interview by phone and I was not one of them. The other one told me my application is still under consideration and they will decide whom to interview soon. So it does seem each professor is doing his own admission process pretty much.
Best of luck!

Hi - does anyone know anything about the timeline for the School-Clinical PsyD at Pace? Has anyone heard anything from them yet? I know their deadline was just last week, so it may be a bit early, but I was just wondering if anyone knows anything yet. =)

Thanks for the news. I was starting to wonder what was going on. I guess sometimes not hearing anything isn't a sign that bad news is coming. 🙂

Hi guys,

For those of you who have been on interviews, have you sent a follow-up email to your POI saying thank you? I'm not sure how I should do that and if I should ask when the department will be extending offers. Here's a draft of an email that I'm considering sending:

Hi Dr. X,

I just wanted to thank you for inviting me to interview at Penn State. I had a great time visiting the campus and learning about the program. I feel that Penn State is a good fit for me, so I'm glad I was able to come and visit. Do you have any idea when the department will begin to make offers?

Sincerely,
M

Does that sound okay? Any suggestions on to improve it? Is it too obvious to ask when they will be extending offers, or is that okay etc
Thanks!

all interview invites are out. if you haven't been invited or rejected yet, you are probably on the waitlist.

Does anyone who has interviewed at Yeshiva mind PMing me with details about the experience? Thanks!

Re: thank you notes

That sounds good - I know several people send hand-written notes as well.

Just my two cents:
I think it's important to send a thank-you letter, I've also been trying to add something unique we discussed in my interview so the recipient might remember me a little better, or something that might make them smile. I've included my contact information by saying, "If you need any further information, you can reach me at..."
I would not ask about when offers go out. I have been asking when I should expect to hear back on interviews, which I think is appropriate. You could also call the admissions/department office to ask. I think if you ask in your thank-you letter, it takes away from your gratefulness and sounds like you want something in return for your compliments. Also, if you do a handwritten letter, it's not likely that someone will write back to you. Just my opinion, though. Hope it helps! Goodluck

I received an invitation to the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology (VCPCP) today via email and a phone call this morning. Interviews are Feb 27 & March 2.
Hope to see all of you who will be going to that interview in a couple of weeks!

Got email today inviting me for 2/27 or 3/2. I'm unsure how to respond since they are having those changes...how about all the other people that are getting invited. Are y'all still going?

I received an email invite today from the Admissions Director at Wright State. Interviews are March 6th and 9th. 🙂

I wish I could have added to this thread earlier, but I just recently registered...

So far I have received interviews from...

Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Virginia Consortium
Widener
Chestnut Hill
Nova Southeastern

... and have been turned down from The University of Indianapolis....

Look forward to seeing some of you at the interviews!

I got an interview invite yesterday, but only via a phone call from the program administrator -- no email. Do you mind if I ask what kind of info they gave you in the email?

Has anyone else received in-person interview invitations to UIC? My POI informed me that a graduate student would be sending me more detailed information on the interview day, which is February 27th. I haven't received any more information, however. Just wondering!

I realize this is SLIGHTLY off topic...but I have been preparing for interviews (mock interviews, reading books, etc...). So, for the most part, I feel as though I have a relatively good grasp on the process. However, one thing I was not expecting is the emphasis on what questions to ask THEM! One professor I interviewed with ONLY had me ask questions! Granted, I have a (brief) list of questions, and know that I can ask the same questions to multiple people. However, I feel like there are questions that I haven't thought of that I would like to know the answer to....what are some of your ideas to ask professors and/or graduate students??

Thanks!

ask about what support is available for research, how often/common it is for students to get grants, how often/common publications are (if you interview w/ a student from your POI's lab you may want to talk about availability for projects, authorship, etc), what's the atmosphere among the students--collaborative, competitive, are students close, student/faculty interactions, availability of faculty for students, both for support, advice and also collaboration. externship and practica placements, what kind of help or connections do you have getting those, how have current students expereinced the externship application process. what sort of amenities are available at the school? as in decent computer lab with the programs you need, well stocked testing library with ample hours, access to other resources wither through the UNI or through affiliations or connections (like MRIs, medical populations, etc).

UMBC apparently is still making decisions for those that are interested. kind of weird though considering that their interview is Feb 20th.

Take a look at the "how to survive interview day" thread. There were some ideas bouncing around there. I think what you'll find is that you'll have lots of questions to ask because there's just so much to consider.

I also got an invite to the VA Consortium, and am definitely still considering it, despite the changes to the program. Plus, they are giving us the majority of the interview to ask questions about what's going on, so we should get a good idea of it then!

There's an excellent list on the "Advice to Applicants" thread.

Just thought I would update the list with some info I gathered today.

University of North Dakota and Central Michigan University are done sending invites.

Virginia Consortium is still in the process of sending invites

Western Michigan University - faculty will be meeting tomorrow to make decisions and interview dates will be March 13th-14th

😀 Good Luck

Has anyone heard from U Houston since last Wednesday (2/4)? It seems that Gordon Paul contacted his interviewees on 2/4, but I was wondering if anyone's heard anything since then or heard from other professors. If you have any info to pass along, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

I just got an e-mail invite from my POI at GWU to interview for their Clinical PhD program. Dates are 2/27 or 3/2.

JSNYC~ Those changes aren't going into effect until next year (the class beginning Fall 2010) so go ahead and be excited!

I got an invite to GWU's clinical ph.d. interviews too...I got what looked like a mass email from the DCT though...I wonder why you got it from your POI...

Has anyone heard from Idaho state university? I heard their invites are going out today. What about Washington State U, anyone heard from them either? :xf:

Has anyone NOT heard from U of Texas-Austin? I know that people were saying that their web pages had been updated with decisions, but is anyone else waiting on an update for their page? Thx!

Or don't....don't even bother going to the interview. I mean, who wants to deal with all of that anyway?...

I figure if we can convince 30 or so people not to show up, then the 5-10 of us that do will be a lock. 🙂

mine still says its under review...

I have not heard. My status page has not been updated with any decision.

TC hasn't extended invites yet (I am doing my masters in the department there right now).

Also I read my invite to GWU carefully, and it makes no sense...it looks like I got sent a generic email sent by the DCT from last year. None of the dates match up with the proper days of the week, and it says one of the itnerview days is Feb 29...and there is no feb 29th this year...

The email said my name in it, so I'm sure it was not a mistake, but how weird is that? I emailed them back asking for proper dates...

Interview dates have just been confirmed. They will be held on:

Friday, Feb 27th or Monday, Mar 2nd at from 9-11am or 1-3pm

Interview invites should be out by the end of next week at the latest. And to those who've PMed me with questions, sorry for the wait but I'll be replying soon!

Dear Applicant,

We appreciate your interest in our program. This is to inform you that we have made our final selections. If you have not received an invitation for interview it is highly likely that your application will not be considered.

In an effort to become a "paper free environment" and save budgeted money, Graduate Admissions E-mail final decision notices on behalf of our program. That being the case it may take a few days. We apologize for the delay and understand your anticipation.

This year we received over 350 applications. As you can imagine, that means many applicants are disappointed. It is unfortunate that this is the case, but there seems to be no way to avoid such a situation.

We hope this will not deter you from pursuing your professional goals. Again, we thank you for your interest in our program and extend to you our very best wishes for your future.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Taylor, Ph.D.
Selection Committee Chair

I'm also waiting to hear.. my web page hasn't been updated either.

I just got an e-mail invite from my POI at GWU to interview for their Clinical PhD program. Dates are 2/27 or 3/2.
Congrats on the interview! Who was your POI in GWU? If you prefer, could you please PM this info?

Thanks!

Yay for current grad students giving us the inside update 😉 THANKS NONONORA !!

Man, it seems like 90% of school are interviewing on Feb 27th and March 2nd...

I've already had to turn down one interview because I am booked up on both of those days. None of the programs offered other dates, and none offer phone interviews...🙁

just got an email from my poi at UVA!!!!!!! (arts & sciences)
the interview date is Feb. 20th.

so excited 🙂

Thanks! This is basically my last hope at this point... it only takes one :xf:!!!

I was told by someone in the office there that interview invitations for the clinical PhD should be going out this week.

Good luck to us all

Anyone know if LIU Brooklyn Clinical PhD is done extending invites? I know they started last Friday, but wasn't sure if it was over. Thanks!

Hi, about the UIC question - I'm in the same boat. I got a call from my POI like a week or two ago letting me know about the in-person Feb 27th interview and that a grad student would contact me about more info, but haven't heard from the grad student yet. Oh well. At least they didn't make us wait for the good news? 🙂

First official rejection today. Auburn U, via email! 🙁 Bummer!!!! I guess it's part of the process., right?

Anybody know if UT-Austin has extended invites for interviews yet? Apparently they posted rejections on the website, but I didn't see a rejection on my application page. I hope that turns out to be good news!
