Yeah I haven't heard from them yet either. By looking at last year's interview invite thread, it looks like a lot of the schools waited until mid- to late-January (week of 1/25 seemed to be pretty popular) to extend invites. way to stretch it right until the last nervous moment. AAAGGGHHH!!!!! 😱

i know last year i had interviews ranging from january to late feburary, and didn't hear about acceptances from some school until april 2nd! good times!

has anyone else had a hard time with the application process at loyola?

I've had to send my GRE scores twice and they keep losing them although ETS confirms having sent them. They still only have two of my four letters of recommendation (one of which was sent twice by my thesis chair). At one point they told me they didn't have any of my transcripts either and I had to resend those as well. I haven't had any difficulty with any other school...

People who applied to Georgia State University, clinical psychology PhD - did you receive correspondence from them when they received your application materials? I have yet to receive anything.

I applied there, I haven't heard anything either.

Are you referring to Loyola Chicago?
I have a received several following up emails saying my application is complete and being reviewed.

yeh. I should have been clear about that. It's been a nightmare applying to them. I've been disqualified because of their inability to keep things organized. ETS has confirmed that they sent the GRE/subject scores twice and they still can't find them.

*sigh*

good luck to you and the rest who applied there.

I just received an e-mail invitation to interview for the Clinical PhD program at Arizona State. Interview dates are 2/13 and 2/16. It's my first invite and I'm really excited and nervous!!!

"We will notify those being invited to the interview via e-mail on 1/23/09. The interviews will occur on Friday, February 13th."

FYI for Eastern Michigan University applicants...

really? ; this process is nervewrecking as it is, I can't believe LUC woudn't work with you after ETS confirmed that they submitted them.

yeh. i'm going to call the department tomorrow and try and see if there is anything they can do. i hate having to ask my professors to resend the letters for a third time to loyola. that borders on the point of stupidity up there, although they'd send the letters gladly.

susanna,
i believe that the invites were for louisville and not kentucky. if you go to page two, thirdeye 99 stated that he/she was contacted by louisville on 1/06 but there is no mention of kentucky in the thread with the exception of the master list.

Ohhh, that would make sense.

lucy: can you confirm this, please?

Yes that's correct - Louisville, but not Kentucky yet. I talked monday to the Kentucky department secretary who said they plan to send out interview invitations no later than 1/16, and hope to have the process wrapped up by end of january. They still hadn't picked a definite date for interviews though. I'm going to follow-up with Kentucky again tomorrow to see if they've picked a date. Will update here if I find out anything.

I didn't have any problems with them but I did have a problem with Fordham U. saying they didn't receive my GRE scores, even though ETS said they sent them twice by mail and 4 times electronically. I think it just depends on the day and who you get! Unfortunately, some people are not as competent/dedicated as others!

Thank you, that's a huge relief! Well, until the 16th, anyway 😉

When I was talking to the people at Loyola-Chicago today they said the committee had met, eliminated some, and sent off to the professors the various packets to sort through. so it's in the final stages of picking interview candidates.

Most of the schools I applied to had a way for me to check whether all my materials (gres, transcripts, references, etc) had been received by the school, but a few don't have a way for me to check. Did y'all call schools to make sure they have your stuff or is that pushy/obnoxious? Call the graduate school or the department? Thanks!

Absolutely. And no it's not pushy, because materials get lost/misplaced all the time and many of the programs will not let you know unless you call them up and have them physically check. I've called and/or emailed both the graduate school to every program to make sure they got what they need, as well as the psych department to see if they have everything too. I've been shocked to find out how many times ETS didn't send GRE scores correctly, or the department never received transcripts, etc.

Okay, it's definitely too early (for me at least) to worry about this, but I'd rather be prepared now then be stuck making a quick decision later:

What is the best way to handle two offers for interviews that fall on the same day? Let's say for argument the two schools are relatively equal in your personal ranking; Do you offer to do a phone interview with one of them? Do you tell them the name of the other school if they ask? Has anyone heard of schools offering more incentive to come to their interview day over another school's? (When I was an undergrad, one of my older friends was literally fought over by two colleagues working at different schools; they offered to pay her travel expenses.)

(I can only hope I'll be in this🙂)

Think carefully about where you want to go. There has to be something pulling you in one direction or another.

Wow. I had not logged in here over the holidays and seeing this thread scared the you-know-what out of me. Luckily NONE of the 19 schools to which I applied have been named yet🙂 (Only 4 even had pre-1/15 deadlines...)

Good luck to ALL! I'm scared
Jon

I'm potentially running into the same problem, particularly on a certain weekend in february where 5 of my schools are holding interviews on the same day. So far I have been holding off a bit on committing to a couple invites, and also trying to gather the info on interview dates for all schools to try and plan ahead. I did some searching around on this forum. Here's the best thread I found on the issue, particularly Markp's response about 3/4ths of the way down: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=558951&highlight=interview+conflict

If we're lucky enough to get multiple offers on the same day, it would be a good problem to have!

One other thought on this - I've read on this forum that you simply have less of a chance of getting an admission invite if you do a phone interview as opposed to in-person. Programs seem to give preference to those who show the initiative/interest to make it there in person, which makes sense. So if you have a conflict on two programs of equal interest to you, you might ask one of them if it's possible to arrange an in-person interview on a different day (rather than settling for a phone interview).

Well I think I'm out of the running for Loyola Chicago, if they've already sent out packets to POI's, because they just told me they never received my transcripts 🙁 I resent them just in case, but it sounds like it's too late...

I had very similar problems, for example, I resent all my transcripts (I've attended 3 different schools) twice to Drexel, and had to resend a letter of recommendation 3 times ( which I felt awful about bugging my professor so much). So unfortunately, I believe I'm out of the running at a couple schools due to failure to get all 3 of my past schools to resend all the transcripts quick enough. It's a shame its a waste of so much freaking money, and there is nothing I really could have done differently (by the time I found out about these problems schools had closed for the break) so i've just had to accept it at this point. It sucks though huh! I feel your pain. Hope Loyola wasn't your top choice. . .

Just to update this quickly - Kentucky will be having interview days on January 29 and 30. They plan to send to send out invites either this week, or no later than end of next week (ie. friday 1/16).

thanks for the info thirdeye99!!!!

Yes, thanks! Though that makes me nervous again 😀

I'm getting really nervous. None of my schools have sent out invites yet. And they won't answer the phone so you can check on your status either. Anyone having the same experience when they call????

I know! I've got to stop refreshing my email.

thirdeye: Did they say how they'd send out invites, btw? Call or email?

OK, I did get an invite just now from Kentucky via email. Not sure if they sent them all out at once, or if they will be gradually giving them out over the next week. They said the email invite will be followed by a snail mail letter. So ...

University of Kentucky
Contacted on 1/8/09 via email by the assistant to the Chair of Clinical Admissions Committee
Interview on 1/29 and 1/30/09

so is anyone else having issues calling schools to find out interview dates? I've called Ohio State a few times now, and after no one answered at the extension I was given, I called another number and the man who answered told me that woman I was calling was the ONLY person in the department who knew the dates of the interviews...does that sound ridiculous or is it just me?!?!

I got an invite today by phone for the Clinical PhD program at Drexel. Interview date is 2/16, with a social event on 2/15.

Oh no! Drexel was my top choice 🙁 Can you PM me w/ your POI? I wonder if they did all their calls today. Worst birthday surprise ever, ha.

could you please PM me drexels info too? thanks 🙂

Anyone hear anything yet from University of Miami (Florida location) ?

Hey all - while I don't envy your position (I was there just a year ago), I did want to share something with yall - especially those of you who haven't heard a peep yet. (*Please keep in mind I'm not bragging, just trying to empathize with the stress yall are feeling right now).

Last year I applied to 14 programs (perhaps went a touch overboard with that one) and I didn't hear a single peep from ANY of them til the end of January. I ended up getting 9 interviews - the first one I was notified of on the 24th of Jan and the last one I was notified of on March 11. So...if you have not heard anything yet, try not to stress out too much (I would say don't stress out but I wouldn't have been able to do that last year no matter how many times people told me don't stress!). Some programs are very slow and will get to you in their time which can be incredibly frustrating.

Also, keep in mind the kind of schedules various programs have for interviewing/accepting/etc. Widener for example has several interview dates spanning about 3 months. I was told I got an interview with them on March 11 and by that point, some people that were in the very first interview batch had already been accepted! I analyzed this to no end (reading the posts from people who interviewed and got accepted at the very same place months earlier with no apparent discrepancy between us) - did it mean something (presumably bad) that I was in the very last interview batch? Did I have a worse chance of getting in because I was in the last batch? I went into way too much of a panic over it and overanalyzed EVERYTHING but I went to the very last interview and still got in, as did several other people in the same batch.

Anyway, it may seem hard if not impossible to stress out over everything or over analyze every single thing you hear about every program you applied to (I know I was pretty muchly in constant panic from December to April) just PLEASE try to help yourself out, do some self care - whatever it is (within reason of course 😛) that calms you down/takes your mind off this process even if only for a few minutes. Just because Program A offered an interview to SDN member ______ (or a non-SDNer) does not mean you are off their list or lower on their list.

I guess to sum up, try to relax, take a deep breath every once in a while, and, when needed, vent 🙂 In the mean time, good luck and remember to breathe 🙂

Whoa...I feel the need to comment on a few of things here:

1. It is still VERY early! I will admit, I am a little anxious about my schools as well, but many places still haven't started the spring semester yet, meaning professors may or may or may not be back yet. It takes time to sort through hundreds of applications--so be patient! 😎

2. I said this before a couple of times, but I'll repeat it again. Do not lose hope if someone on this thread hears back from one of your schools and you haven't. Yes, sometimes it means that you were likely rejected. But I also had a school give me an interview invite a couple of years ago, and the invite was 2 weeks after someone posted in the interview invite thread. Just use this thread to recognize the info is being sent out, but don't lose hope entirely.

3. I personally do not like badgering schools. You have to think that these schools are processing a lot of applications, and it is a stressful time for everyone--you, the psych department, and the department secretaries. My view is that the interview invites will come when they come--no need to harass the schools and demand to know what is going on. Some may disagree with me on this point, but still, it is worth stating.

So let's all take a deep breath in, and calm down. 😎

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Apparently, you felt the need to chime in like I did! 😀

Is it weird that two "blind" people said basically the same thing at the same time? 🙂 hehehehehe

Thanks for the support/input. 🙂 My impression was that they all go out at the same time, and that is that. I appreciate hearing from people that have been through it!

Thank you both for the above information. My thoughts on the matter were that invites were all sent out roughly the same time and if you heard nothing... well, you know. This makes me feel better and less stressed. Maybe now I can do something other than watch my email and wait for invites! 😀

Just to give an 'application received' head's-up, I got an email from Texas A&M yesterday saying they'd received my application(I sent it in plenty of time before the deadline). My AIS online account said my transcripts were missing, but when I called, they weren't. So, don't get too worried if yours says something is missing. Also, I only just got my GSU email about my application being complete and I sent in stuff for them by the deadline as well.

I got a couple of invites for phone interviews today. Just wondering if it's common to chat by phone with the PI in January and still be invited for an in person interview later on, or if this will be it. They did not specify.

On the one hand, if a lot of clinical psych programs don't reimburse travel costs phone interviews will be great for my wallet- I applied all across the country. On the other hand, I was planning on site visits to really help me decide where I want to go.

It varies by school and prof, but phone interviews often precede invitations to in-person interviews. It's a way to get to know the student and potentially cut a few people who aren't a good fit.

Which schools? Can you post here or send a message to Lucyguard so she can update us? 🙂

Hi everyone,

I received an interview invite from UCF today via email from my POI.

Good luck everyone!
