I was wondering if someone could provide me some insight on how acceptance offers are generally made. Do the schools generally wait a long time after the interview or is it done fairly soon afterwards? Also, do the schools expect a direct reply when the offer is made? If you get an offer but are waiting to hear from another school, what do you tell the school providing you the initial offer?

Thanks for any advice anyone can provide. I just want to be prepared if things do work out in my favor this time.

Hey olliepsych, I remember a couple of threads with this discussion, if I find the link I'll post it. What I know is that most schools will let you know fairly quickly about their decision (and they will let you know what to expect at the interview). Once you receive an offer you have until April 15 to make you decision. Just remember that if you have more than 2 offers you should ALWAYS pick your favorite. If you stuck between 2 schools and can't decide, let all other offers go and take your time to decide (until 4/15 of course) 🙂

From what I know, schools usually make an offer a couple weeks after the interview at the most, or they tell you you're on the waiting list. If you get an offer, you can tell them you're still waiting on other schools and/or you still have more interviews. They understand that it's part of the process. The only thing you need to do is tell them by April 15th, which is the deadline for accepting and offering all positions.

The one courtesy that is generally expected is if you have 2+ offers and you know you aren't going to accept an offer from any of the schools, go ahead and turn them down. That way they can go ahead and offer the position to someone else. No need to keep an offer open that you already know you are going to turn down.

weh! 🙁 do you mind PMing me who your POI is?

Sure, but I got an email from the department head...there was no contact with the POI so far. Do you still want the name?

schwarbi: you were contacted for the counseling program at LUC, not the clinical program, correct? (congrats either way! i'm just anxious about the clinical program!)

Thank you! Yes, counseling. Sorry for any confusion...this time is anxiety provoking enough!

Hi I got an email from my POI at Arizona (Clinical) on Saturday 1/17 - to my work email which I only checked just now! - inviting me to interview Feb 19-22! Good luck!

No because that's when I thought you meant the clinical program (where I applied). Thanks anyway though and congrats! 😛

For anyone who applied to the following schools, I just received an email from the grad secretary (I emailed them) saying that they have not starting sending invites out yet but should in the next 2 weeks.

Texas A & M
University of Houston
Rutgers State Univeristy of NJ

Thanks for letting us know! Just to clarify: Rutgers was the PhD, not the PsyD, right?

It's been a quiet day on here today... I think a lot of the schools must be closed for MLK day. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?! 😕😱:scared:

Haha I was just thinking the same thing. Earlier I was anxiously checking my phone and email obsessively until someone reminded me that all the schools were today. I don't have class on Monday anyways so I really didn't notice. Now I'm hyped for tomorrow!

Ditto... since I'm at work today, I spaced on the fact that it's a holiday 😛 Makes me feel better about no news today, but also makes me even more anxious for tomorrow!!!

I know! I work at Northwestern University, and the classes are canceled for today, but their business offices are still open! So I still had work, and I totally forgot (until there was no traffic on the way into work) that for most it's a holiday!!

Geez, I don't know if the fact that today is a holiday makes me more anxious for tomorrow or excited... A little of both I guess?:scared:🙁😱:xf:

I'm so glad I have SDN to check on just to know I'm not the only one out there going through this crazy grad-app process 🙂

Hey guys... I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow is also quiet because of the inauguration. A lot of people I know (including profs) will be watching the festivities! Just wanted to throw that out there so we don't panic if tomorrow is quiet as well!

ahhh 😱 you guys are right. This is definitely making me anxious. Not only do we have to wait for the weekend but now Mon and Tue too????Right when my schools should be making calls.

I doubt they won't be sending out any invites tomorrow. Even if they want to watch the inauguration, they'll probably still have to work.

I know it has already been posted, but I also received an interview invite to Indiana U of PA. Yay!!!

MLK day today, Obama inaugurated tomorrow, truly a historic week but it truly shows how stressful this whole process is by the fact that we are annoyed at the fact that these things may keep our schools from sending out letters.

Anyone hear ANYTHING from Loyola MD? Man they take their time don't they?

Has anyone ever had their POI schedule to call you in order to make interview arrangements? I am just wondering how prepared I should get for this phone call. . .

interview invite from fordham university via mass email

my first invite 🙂

Just wanted to say thank you to LucyGuard, TheWesternSky, and WantCalm! Your info was helpful regarding acceptance offers!🙂

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that I got a mass e-mail today from the University of Florida Clinical and Health Psychology PhD program saying that they will be sending out interview invites between January 28th and February 2. The visitation/interview weekend will be February 20-21. Best of luck to everyone!

Ok so I'm kind of freaking out...

I had some trouble with my application to UC Berkeley. First, they wanted me to rank my POI's (the application said this was optional) which I did right away and emailed my list to the admissions people. THEN they said I only sent one set of transcripts and after overnighting (for $20) another set, they mysteriously found them. Admissions confirmed for me via email that my application was complete

BUT... I just went to check the online status page today and it said...

Your application was flagged as complete on 2009-01-17.

Does that mean my application wasn't complete before 1/17? Am I just over reacting? What does this mean? Will my application not be forwarded to my POI's in time? Has anyone else applied to Berkeley and been obsessively checking their Candidate Self-Registration page (is there someone on this board NOT obsessively checking something)?

Ok thanks for letting me vent a bit...

I think Berkeley is a little slower on the application process because they specifically state their interview weekend on the website. From reading this board and others, it doesn't seem as though applicants are penalized for graduate schools' late compilation of the submitted materials.

I know what you're going thru. Similar thing happened to me with 2 schools. One of them lost one of LORs (the most important one, BTW) TWICE!!! My advisor sent it in early Novemeber then again in Dec and they claim they never got it. I contacted the dept. sec and after she told me she didn't know what to do about it I contacted the DCT. She said my LOR could be emailed by my prof and she would make sure my appl would be reviewed and that invites would go out until the end on Jan. I hope that it is the case. Someone has already posted they got an invite for that school so I'm nervous.

A different school didn't mark my application as complete until the second week of Jan but guaranteed that my appl would be looked at.

I would contact the program just to make sure your application gets the attention it deserves.

has anyone heard anything yet from Temple?

has anyone heard anything yet from Temple?

Still no word from Temple. This is driving me crazy!

I know someone who goes to Temple for UG and his morning class was cancelled. I'm not sure if that is campus wide or just his teacher, but I'm thinking that everyone is busy watching the inaguration. I know the Psych hall at my school was empty!

I just want to know already 😱

I got a phone call from the director of PsyD admissions at Chestnut Hill College last Thursday. They gave me a slew of potential interview dates, but I'm going a week from Wednesday (the 28th).

On a related note, I called Loyola MD. Their interview date is February 20th, and they said they'll send out emails or make phone calls either next week (last week of January) or the week after (first week of February).

Me too. I'm very tempted to call up and ask, but I'd rather not give my name..

I applied to Berkeley this cycle as well, and the -exact- same thing happened to me! I sent both sets of transcripts in the same packet, but the admissions office notified me that they only received one. I also had to cough up the extra $20 to overnight another set 😛 My app was "flagged as complete" on 1/6, which only means that this is when everything was finally processed and entered in. I wouldn't worry about your app not being reviewed or anything like that; if you got the confirmation e-mail from the department, you might have noticed in the last paragraph that the adcom doesn't meet until late January to decide on invitations. 🙂

Good luck!!!

Hi everyone, just a quick heads up about Ohio State. I called the Clinical Area head today and he informed me that they have extended all invitations barring any exceptional circumstances. 🙁

quick note for those waiting on Loyola MD, graduate office said that interview invites will start being sent out next week

I just spoke with someone at Drexel - they will be extending interview invitations until the end of January

Hey all...so I have a question. When you are called and offered an interview, do you have to tell them right then what date, or will they give you a day or at least an hour or so to check for flights, review your schedule, etc to see what day is best?

They will give you time to make travel arrangements. They might ask you if you intend to come, but will certainly not expect you to have it all figured out.

If you know for sure that you can make it, then you can tell them so (if you want to) and tell them you will let them know when you have the details. One school told me a student would contact me within a week to talk about the specifics (at which time she just gave me tips and told me to let her know when my travel plans were finalized), the other gave me about 3 weeks to get back to them.

To the person who has heard from Wisc-Madison, would you mind telling me who your POI is?

Thank you!

If anyone is waiting on Suffolk, they posted a message on their site stating that interviews will be extended until February 1st.....

Would the person who heard from Yale mind PMing their POI? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

If anyone here applied to Kent State, I received an e-mail from the psych grad coordinator stating that interview invitations would likely not be going out for another week. The interviews are scheduled to take place on either Feb 21 or Feb 27.

Just received an e-mail from my POI at Clark University inviting me to an interview!!! It will either be Feb 11 or 13. My first invite and I'm so excited!!! YAY!!!

Hey there,

Do you mind PMing me who your POI was there?? Thanks a bunch... I applied too and thought for sure I had a great research match with a certain POI, so I'm hoping there's still a chance
