Did anyone get any email from UMKC about an incomplete application? I thought mine was complete!

Thanks Enteroid. I wonder why this forum is so inactive. how many progs have you applied.. have they started retrieving. less than half of mine have downloaded my application so far

a lot of snipers in GI. only 53 posts but 4000 views.

Applied to 50 programs, most all downloaded except 5.

Did anyone submit 4 letters instead of the 3.

that looks like a generic acknowledgement email. I got it too and my application is complete

i applied to a few with 4 letters, some particularly ask for 4

I applied everywhere with 4 LoRs. I received this e-mail from Uni of Kansas too...

yep i got the same e-mail also. used 4 LOR's.

how much do you guys think other factors matter such as ethnicity, visas, community vs university program, hobbies, professional societies

Ethnicity: should not matter.
Visa: green card>> J-1>h-1
University hospital>> community hospital
Hobbies: don't matter unless your hobbies are found very interesting by the PD of that program ( who shares the same hobbies)
Professional societies: I doubt they matter.

Again this is what I think. Doesn't have to be true.

CRITERIA FOR GASTROENTEROLOGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM SELECTION
The University of Pittsburgh Gastroenterology Fellowship Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The following criteria are used by the University of Pittsburgh Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition to select fellows:
1.Participation in an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine program.
2. Passing USLME Boards with excellent board scores preferred.
3. Strength of recommendation letters from previous physician mentors.
4. Strength of research credentials.
5. Earned awards/honors.
6. Dedication to an academic career.

The Program Director and Key Clinical Faculty leadership attendings meet as a group to evaluate and screen the ERAS applicants. Top candidates are invited for a personal interview. During a typical year, approximately 40 candidates are selected for personal interviews from a field of 400+ applicants. During the personal interview, fellow candidates are evaluated on the following criteria by interviewing attendings:

Educational background.
1.Accolades, honors and awards.
2 Letters of recommendation.
3 Research experience.
4. Commitment to research.
5. Professionalism (maturity, poise, speech, sensitivity and mannerisms).

Fellow candidates are also asked to discuss strengths, research interests, special training experiences and possible weaknesses during personal interviews.
After all interviews are complete, faculty leadership and interviewers meet as a group again to evaluate the candidates and make a ranking list for the NRMP. This list is posted on the NRMP website, and the program participates in the Match.

Hi there, I'm also applying this year. My credentials:
-Working as hospitalist
-IMG
-Green card holder
-Finished residency 2011 at a community hospital
-Step I & 2 in the 220+ range while Step 3 in the low 200 range only
-4 publications (1 1st author)
-21 poster presentations (DDW and ACG)
I'm still very anxious about my application especially since GI application is a "seller's market" i.e. too many candidates for meager spots.
Good luck to everyone!!

I applied to 88 programs. So far only 20 or less have not downloaded my application. BTW, besides Washington Hospital and University of New Mexico, are there any other progs which require supplemental documents? Thanks!

Hi there klatskin, for UNM, they need a statement indicating why you want to go to UNM. For Washington Hospital, i think there's a form that you need to fill out....

UCLA does not need supplemental form. Even washington hospital does not as we applied via ERAS. That form is to be used only if you applying via email. correct me in case!
