Hey guys quick question. Anybody else apply to Stanford. They are the only program left that hasn't "retrieved" my application according to ADTS. Submitted mine early in July. Have they downloaded anyones yet?

Based on what I'm seeing here, only you and Jdoc will be getting an invite from Stanford, if he hasn't heard and you haven't heard, then I doubt anyone has heard from them. The top places all compete for the same small handful of applicants, so I'd just remain patient. Though . . . they tend to lean more towards the MD/PhDs, than the straight MDs. It could be the the MD/PhDs are getting the nod first and they'll fill with the some of the rest of you later.

Could also be they have a big number of internal applicants this year?

It's surprising that while iv count is going up on the list.. there are no rejections in last several days- I am not complaining.!!!!

Or maybe people are too ashamed to post their rejections? Kidding. Like others have said, still pretty early in the game. End of this past week had some movement, hopefully more to come next week! Good luck all!

anything today anyone? was a silent Monday for me.. hoping for a better rest of the week

Nothing. Just crickets. It's only been nearly a month, right........?

Quiet on this end too. Emailed a couple programs that still haven't retrieved my application yet according to ADTS. Banner Good PC said they haven't even downloaded any applications yet. Perhaps a bunch of programs are meeting on Monday night to determine the next batch of interview offers? One can hope...

Well, I'm glad that others are going through the same thing as me... All we can do is wait, cross our fingers and hope. I have zero interview invites and zero rejections. I was expecting programs to start contacting people last week, but most likely you'll see interview offers and rejections in the next few weeks. At least that's what I think will happen. Likely the initial interviews that were offered in the past few weeks were superstar applicants or in-house applicants.

Banner Good program is one that hasn't downloaded my app and I was wondering if it was just me or it's everyone... good to know an answer to that one.

Still, it's probably not that easy to pick applicants to interview. The way I see it... Let's say a program has 3 fellow spots. They'll interview about 10 -12 x spots = 30 - 40 applicants. They'll get about 400 apps per program. Out of those 400, lets say there are 10 superstars that any program will interview and then 50-100 great applicants and 150 others that are really good applicants with very similar applications. So, they have to sit down and look at LORs and look at where you went to residency and your entire app to figure out the whole list (as unfortunately those little differences is what sets you apart from others). Still, in the end, the programs have their pick of good applicants that will become profficient fellows. Our jobs at this point are done... we have applied. Now just hope for interviews and wow them on interview day so that they cannot say no to you and look towards someone else. Good luck to all.

Has UoNewMex downloaded apps? If so they forgot about mine... same for SUNY @ Brooklyn.

SUNY brooklyn and banner good sam have not downloaded mine either. Haven't applied to New Mexico so dont know about that.

Hey. Is anyone applying to Pulmonary only fellowships this year? If so, has there been any feedback from those places? This week has been terribly quiet....

Thanks!

I know UoArizona is already on the board but stoked to get another invite just now and something to break the silent waiting game!

They offered interviews on 10/8 and 10/15.

Did U Arizona only offer two dates? wonder how many candidates they will have in one day - they have 4 pulm/cc positions and I bet they would interview around 40.

Haha phew, good to know there won't be 50 other people on my interview day!

Well ... Today is just another disappointing day for me

Got to say I felt relieved after I saw your posting . I applied to 90 programs mixed between pul and or critical care , I am IMG graduated 3 years ago , working as hospitalist. I have multiple presentations at ATS and ACCP. The only drawback is the visa issue . Got one rejection from yale and two emails from cook county and U of arizona that they downloaded my application.
Just relax and wait !🙂

I am sorry if you answered this before.
Is it less competitive to
apply to separate fellowships pulmonary and then critical care or vice versa ?
If you have a program that have both fellowships and you applied for critical for example will
the program directors ask you why did you apply to critical care and not the combined program and do they expect you to get other subspecialty ?

If all your LOR, mention you as an excellent PCCM candidate, it would at least raise some doubts regarding your genuine intentions.

Thank you for your reply , but if the candidate will stay the whole 2 years for critical care fellowship does it really matter if he or she has an intention to pursue another fellowship ?
Critical care fellowship after internal medicine is an mandatory 2 years even if you have intend to follow another subspecialty ....

Critical care fellowship after internal medicine is an mandatory 2 years even if you have intend to follow another subspecialty ....

Well that would be the backward way to do it. You can get the critical care TWO years, but then it will take you at least TWO more years finish another fellowship. You only get to do ONE year of critical care after finishing a regular sub-specialty fellowship. Pulmonary is two years and critical care is one more after that - though these programs have combined now to give these fellows MORE exposure to the unit because they generally take call of some kind for the ICU all three years. But if you do critical care first and then want to do pulmonary, it will take you FOUR years.
