Official 2013-2014 Pulm/CCM fellowship application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looks like Stanford finally downloaded applications as of yesterday. Banner Good Samaritan still has not retrieved mine yet.

Speaking of being board certified... I just want this ABIM exam to be over with already! MewMew, I take it next week too. At least push notifications from SDN app provide a nice break when needed.

Rej: BWH

The first round of interviews are nearly all out, it is either the progs I applied don't send out rej or perhaps there is a second round of IV send outs (optimism)

no idea why i even applied to some of the big names, they clearly state no idiots

Anyone heard anything from the other Cali programs yet (UCSD, UCSF, UCI, Cedars-Sinai, Stanford, Cal Pacific, etc.)?

rejection : Univ Washington ... says your chances of matching are low...:scared:

Anyone heard from the south? GA, Fla, TN in particular

rejection : Univ Washington ... says your chances of matching are low...:scared:

THEY ACTUALLY SAID THAT!!!!!!!!! WT******!!!!!!

WOW all they had to say was good luck! Sheeeesh! Don't let them get you down!

rejection : Univ Washington ... says your chances of matching are low...:scared:

I just got the same rejection email. Don't worry, we can cry together ;( The language was kinda harsh, not gonna lie. To be fair, though, it was worded "the likelihood of your ultimately matching into the UW program is low..."

Add me to the list of "likelihood of matching at UW is low". At least they sent me something lol

Add me to that list as well, pretty harsh language. We should email them back once we match just for the heck of it...

Got the same email from Washington today. I was just going to get a mid-year vacay anyway...or at least thats what I wanted to tell them.

Interview from Nebraska. Though I see its already on the list.

The interview from Nebraska is impressive. Reviews from prior years speak highly of that place

Offset the (maybe not so) bad news from UW with great news! Just got an invite from UC Davis! I know it's already on the list but happier nonetheless 🙂

That was my first thought as well.

Though, I think it has added, not taken away from my training. On balance, even though I will not end up doing transplant for a living, I thought transplant was interesting and worth being exposed to if given the chance, all other things being equal. There will be zero panic if one ever ends up on my door step some day out in the middle of nowhere. If the pharmacy will have the meds . . . that is another thing . . .

I don't disagree, I've thankfully seen enough to not get scared but its a special field that takes a special personality (like CF) that I don't have

News of the day: Banner good sam finally downloaded the applications..!!!

As a current Pulmonary fellow, I echo this sentiment.

Unless you really want to wokr in the lab and actively evolve into a physician scientist it dont matter whether the program has transplant.
I think what matters is pleasant non malignant environment. I heard Pitt is malignant. Is it true?
Also btw does NYU/Mount Sinai/Columbia ever take FMG's?

Its a personal opinion. But i am sure there are some people who would be happy not to deal with transplant patients. I think its useful.

From what I have heard, Pitt is not malignant.

Dont know about Columbia/NYU/Mount Sinai. I imagine even if there are IMGs there, they have generally been chief residents in a good program in the NYC area/significant research accomplishments/have permanent residency.

Me too (Emory rejection)....insert sad face.

Still waiting to hear from about every Fl program, Vandy, and Augusta, GA

Add another to the list of people Emory has made :*(

Hopefully some good news will come before tomorrow.

This is an ignorant statement. It does matter. Will you be a bad doctor? Is it absolutely necessary to getting basic competence in pulm/cc? No, but to say that it "doesn't matter" is stupid. It SHOULD be a serious consideration for all of you.

Though some of you may not have the application to make it a place that actually does them.

If emory said no, don't hold your breath on Vandy.

In fact, if memory serves . . . Vandy doesn't say, "no," you simply never hear from them.

Wasn't counting on them....but thanks anyways 🙄

The gossip on Pitt is that it is BUSY. Too many people conflate busy with malignant.

Are we still in the first round of interview invites? will there still be more to come? It kind of feels like the pool's drying up and I'll be left to happily much on sand

Watch it before you call people ignorant.
I'm talking about basic competence. It would be great if the program has transplant, but the centers are few and far between. So those who dont get an opportunity to wokr there shouldn't fret.

My program is still going through applications. So if say we are still In The first wave.

Watch it? Ha!

Do you guys want straight talk in here or not? You made a stupid statement. Go back and read it. Exposure to transplant is not only about doing basic science or becoming a scientist. Most of our transplant docs are clinicians who like the unique challenges of transplant medicine.

Looks like I donated enough money to ERAS
Rejection : Emory!

Btw Washington University @ Saint Louis sent a snail mail invite (as some years ago) or a standard email? I've been out of town and unrealistically hoping for something sweet on the mail.
