Official 2013-2014 Pulm/CCM fellowship application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yup, it hasn't been a good day for many of us today. Hopefully tomorrow is better. Has anyone heard from Tulane? I got their email a few weeks ago that stated that they will be inviting people starting on 8/23.

i am really curious who these programs are inviting. Iam from a pretty reputed university. Have posters and original research .have LORS from pulmonary chairman who is well known.Good scores(99). still so far terrible season.I am on visa. Is PCCM becoming competitive ?

called Cleavland clinic , OH . PD is on vacation. Cleavland clinic , FL has not sent ivs yet.

What visa are you on?

I am so depressed too. First of all screwed my ABIM exam which was soo tough.
After zillions of rejections. Today got iv from Fresno.
Also just now got to know that my abstract got accepted to CHEST. But its not there in my CV.
Ivs : 2, rejections : >20

Although I heard from U of Arizona already, maybe this generic email sheds some light/hope on the timeline of reviews, not only for UofA but other programs as well?

Dear Applicants,
We are still reviewing applications through the end of September/beginning of October. Also, I am sharing the updates sent to me by email with the interview committee.
Thank you for your interest in our program.

Cleaning up the Master List. Keep your heads up, folks! Hoping for good/better news the rest of the week!

For those that received an invite at UNC, Duke, or Wash U (St. Louis) what dates were offered? I'm still waiting on UNC and Duke. Duke is still looking at more apps currently. A friend got UNC today, so they could still be inviting more.
UTSW is still reviewing more apps.
Wash U and USC are wait listing some people.

I cannot tell you how many dates are still open or not but I can tell you our interview dates at Duke:

8/28, 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23

Has CCF Florida sent invite already? Slipperss add CCF florida to the master list.

Looks like all the info you got today is not quiet right.

I would suggest that we should not call any program. The PC won't tell us the truth to ease up our anxiety. If the want us, they will call us.

it's been years since i was on SDN. so long i had to get a new account. anyway, i've been lurking on this thread for a couple weeks. figured i might as well share: 3 invites (LSU, Wake, USF), 5 rejects (Cincy, Louisville, MUSC, Cedars, UAB) so far. i notice UF, UK, WVU, ETSU, VCU are still not on the master list. has anyone heard anything from these programs?

I was reading last year's thread out of curiosity and to see if interview dates correlated. Kind of, not really. I can say that I like the vibe on this year's thread more. Less WAMC posts and less of a all-star BMOC boasting every single interview possible. Anyway... good luck today all!

What's going on with Stanford? Anyone heard anything?

Hi everyone,

My first post on SDN. I am very grateful to the people who have contributed to put a wealth of info on this forum. I am couples matching with my wife who is applying for ID. We are both on a J1 visa.
The interview season so far had good and bad weeks. Initially it was slow for me but my wife got a lot of calls. I started emailing PD's requesting them to consider my application. The response was very good and I was able to get some more IV's . I did get rejections and even then I got personalized emails form PD's as to why. Eg Tufts PD Dr Tabba saild that they were not considering any more applicants as they had 8 internal candidates applying this year.
I am not going over the iv's I got (its irrelevant at this point) but I would definitely suggest emailing PD's (cc it to the coordinators) of programs you are most interested in and hope for the best. You can be sure that your chances of getting an iv wont be jeopardized because you sent them an email.
Good luck all!

when program states that if you are non resident you have to find your own funding what does that mean ? no salary or research funding ?

I'll like to say this forum has been a great help to me in terms of getting information about a lot of programs. I must admit that sometimes I feel very ashamed and sad that I cannot contribute meaningfully to the info about various programs.

I guess my contribution at this point will be to encourage as many pple on this forum as I can. I'm sure a number of you guys have a very similar profile to mine. I am an IMG from a small community program in the northeast, I have no research experience (and i mean absolutely none) but I do have a number of case reports (majority of them coauthored). My USMLE scores are in the high 90s. My counts so far:
IVs: 7 (including some high rated programs)
Rej: 9

I am honestly surprised I have been able to get this many invites. I applied over 60 programs thinking at worst I'll get like 3 - 4 invites from 3rd tier programs.
So once again, for all out there like me. Have faith. Something will work out.

Deedok

I notice alot of IMGs or American IMGs on this forum. Not trying to knock those guys but Just wondering if any DOs or AMGs on these forum are applying to Pulm/cc and how has the interview trail been for them? Seems like competitiveness has picked up this year...

Also I only took the comlex step 3. Did take USMLE 1 and 2 along with Comlex but decided to save money and not take USMLE step 3, will that be an issue when I apply next year?

Good luck everyone!

I am a DO, took COMLEX only. Have two interviews, OSU and USF. Rej from Mich, Cinci, MUSC, Univ of Louisville.

Check the "charting outcomes for the match" document at the NRMP website. They have a detailed description based on type of applicant.

Any word from Mayo Jacksonville or Pulmonary MSKCC?

My inbox has been quiet for two weeks. Had some interviews come through but the last couple weeks have just been crickets, no rejections, interviews, or courtesy emails.

I agree. Surprisingly quiet day today. I had zero emails from programs today.

I am still waiting to hear from UF @ Gainesville and UT Memphis. Has anyone heard anything ftom them?

Whats up everyone. I am a DO and new to this place. To answer your question, I have taken Step 2 of the usmle in addition to all of the comlex steps. I have rejects from Henry Ford, Michigan, Louisville, and Univ. of Rochester. I have not heard from WVU, Metro Health/CWRU, Cleveland, Toledo, Univ. of Toledo, UT memphis, Albany, or Penn State

My current tally is: 6 IV and 4 rej ( I probably have more rej's than this. The programs probably just have not gotten around or won't get around to sending a courtesy letter).

@ desijigga: Man, Don't count yourself out yet. Have you tried emailing PD's of programs you are most interested in? There was a post addressing this yesterday. I emailed a few PD's yesterday and already heard back from one of them. I strongly recommend doing this if you have not done so already. I mean, what is the worst thing that can happen?

The way I look at this situation is this: Worst case scenerio, we don't match this year, at least we get to make some $$$ and dress-up the ol' CV and try agian next year. But DO NOT count yourself out yet. statistically you need 8 iv's to have a good shot at matching. However, none of that matters for the candidate who has >/= 8 iv's and tanks the actual iv's.

Word.

Relatively quiet today too. Just a couple interview confirmations via email.

Still waiting to hear back from a bunch of CA and NY programs, some of which aren't on the master list either (Stanford, Mt. Sinai, NY Methodist, etc.). Oh and Banner Good in AZ. Not giving up hope just yet either.

Yeah I hear 8 is the magical number.

Its a little weird. I've also hear about 8 being the "healthy" number of interviews; quickly followed by the "but you always match in your top 3".

Attending more than 5-6 is unnecessary?

Lousy day

@ Super Turrican: I would go to all iv's. In the short term it is prob more expensive but, at the end of the day, I would feel really dumb if I didn't match and didn't go to all my iv's. It seems like we would be best served to give yourselves the best chance to match as possible.

Iv from Bridgeport/Yale and albert eistine philly this pm

With the exception of Stanford ....all the big names have called out for interviews....

Hi!! Did you get interview date form Cedar-Sinai yet?

Hi. Not yet. I'm awaiting the IV dates as outlined in their email. I was going to post them when I heard back from Cedars.

your visit.

You guys say we should write the PD's for the programs we are interested in if we haven't heard anything. But what exactly are we to say when we write them that's not already in our application that will make them give you an interview?
