Official 2014-2015 Cardiology Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello everyone.. just joined thread today.. Did anyone get any interview call so far?
Also, for visa requiring IMGs, how many programs did you guys apply to?

Are you done with your Cardiology fellowship? If yes then you should aim for ACGME Accredited programs only.

If you want to just beef up your CV, then you can try researching programs and see whats available. Personally, I found researching programs individually statewise and contacting the program co-ordinators directly very helpful.

As for the last question, I guess its your personal choice, if you are interested in research then go for it, if not that would be an unwise choice.

Best of luck,

Thanks a lot.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. Just wondering if any one got interviews. I checked GI, Hem/Onc, Rheu, endo, nephro and all have received atleast 3-4 invites by now. Only cardiology I do not believe invites are out. Just getting tired waiting

I am a resident who is looking for cardiology fellowship but just also I am trying to have plan B.

Kemo, that is always a good idea, especially when applying for a competitive fellowship. To my knowledge, besides Mayo Clinic Preventive cardiology position all programs start looking for applicants after the match in December since they don't want to interview folks who may match eventually in a clinical cardiology program and not take the research or imaging position. So you have time on your hand.

I feel some programs will take 1-2 weeks to reply, some any minute.

Also what's the difference between Black and Blue dates on ADTS? does it mean that It was downloaded versus not?

Just my opinion: "not yet retrieved" probably means not yet downloaded. I don't know what black and blue dates mean but I do know that they do not stand for downloaded versus not.

The definitive answer regrading the blue and black dates in ADTS if we call and ask ERAS support system.

That was the list of invitations from last year to give us a general idea of when programs send out interview. As of now, no program has sent out interview yet base on this forum.

Univ of Washington acknowledgement so far..otherwise no activity

Hi everyone! Have not rec any invites yet. Are programs just slow to invite this cycle?

i know but still, are they sending, I guess not.

how to prepare interview questions and answers ? can you help us any websites ? cardiology interview.

do not know of a website-- but friends who applied last year say majority of questions are directed at your research

Did any one applying to RUSH Cardiology program get a Supplement Application request along with a fee of $40?

I am not going to send them anything, I applied to 150 programs, one less - I don't care.

I am not going to send them anything, I applied to 150 programs, one less - I don't care.

Why do they want $40? A good way to screen out the poor? Limit the number of applicants?
It is kind of suck that one has already paid the $26 to ERAS - now it is kind of obligated to pay that extra $40 to see if you have a chance (it is like poker). However, if you don't care about RUSH, then it is better to use $40 + 12 to apply to two new programs

They state that "this fee is used for [their] fellowship education fund."
>>$40 x 600 (# of applications @ Emory Cardiology Fellowship/but RUSH likely less because of fee) = $24,000

Free lunches for fellow for the whole year :p

I think it is just wrong to collect that much money from poor residents regardless of the motives. Where does the money go? Even if it go to charity, it was not a donation from us. It was... Comments from last year:
adlib921-So pissed about the Rush rejection. I have had many rejections this yr but none is as hurtful. They charged freaking $40 for the application and Im not sure they even looked at all the apps? I am sure I am more than qulified to get an interview from them....

cardforlife-I did not apply to Rush, knowing that it only processes application with extra $40. On average there are around 500-600 applicants, and the program at Rush easily put some $20,000 or more money into their accounts. No one knows where the money go. Though I heard some good things about the hospital (not card program) from my juniors who went to school in Chicago, I decided not to apply. Something fishy there.

floppy valve - These guys are crooks!! $40 payment does NOT guarantee your an interview spot... if you can, avoid this place...

There are many reasons to apply or not to a place like this, but I don't have time to explain. Just try to eat as much as possible of those fellow lunches after you match. Yes, it is a screening tool, pay the money and answer the illegal question how many places you applied with something like 10-20, so they can see you are very focused on applying there.

yeah, it was listed in Rush's website as well; interesting that just cardio program of RUSH has such a requirement....

no offers yet here either. feeling antsy as my friends going rheum and nephro are stacking interviews. i'm presuming the first "screen" is just that much tighter for cards.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. But I have been regularly following the conversations that go on and highly respect each and everyone on this forum and their thoughts. I wish you all the best and sincerely hope and pray that we all get matched in this session!!

I am sure this question has been posted in very many ways. But request you to take a few minutes time to please answer my query. What, in your opinion, are my chances to get interviews and possibly get matched in cardiology:

My credentials are:
1) IMG
2) American Citizen
3) Completed internal medicine residency in home country
4) Now a 3rd year internal medicine resident in an average community program, not very populary known, not a chief resident
5) Masters of science (MS) in biostatistics from a reputed university program, ranked top 2 in US news.
6) 30 peer reviewed publications indexed to PubMed, first authored 18 of them, 16 international abstracts, 3 text book chapters.
7) Recepient of NIH grant and was funded for 2 year for my research work through the grant.
8) awarded research achievemnt award from a national organization
9) 4 LORs, good program director LOR, 1 from research mentor (not a cardiologist) from my MS university (really strong), 2 LORs from cardiologists, 1 fairly well reputed (strong) and another regular community cardiologist.
10) worked with Framingham cohort and have 3 papers with framingham cohort (1 first author)
11) Submitted application for 'K' award to NIH which is being reviewed but decision unlikely until October'14.

The reason for my strong research credentials are that there was a time when I thought that I will be only a researcher and not a clinician, hence invested 3 years of my life into research. But life took a turn I realized that my true interest was in being a physician scientist. Hence, I went into resideny training. Inspite, having worked with reputed cardiologists in research papers, did not make the contact as until recently was interested in another speciality but then did a considerable amount of soul searching and came to decide my true clinical and research interest was in cardiology. Hence, all my contacts are in a different speciality. However, thankfully all my papers have a cardiology tough to them. I stand at this point realizing that I have made a correct decision to chose cardiology as my career. But little concerned to see what is my realistic chance to match. I sincerely appreciate your input and suggestions.

you didn't tell us about your USMLE scores. I think you have pretty good chances to match.

I am really sorry, but I have to say, in this stressful time, these kind of posts are really not welcome (nobody knows what your chances are). But who cares what I say….so feel free to reply back and vent at me…

your chances are somewhere between 0% to 100%…..

I think it is obvious that programs have not started sending invitations yet, however i wonder why they are delaying this year. I also wonder if programs already extended invites to so called creme de la crop applicants that we just don't know about.

Well, that's an impressive research resumee, however questions may be asked about your aptitude and skill in clinical medicine.. Don't get me wrong, it's just something that seems possible. On the other hand if you focus on research heavy fellowships (Univ of Washington, Seattle, Stanford, UNC,most Ivy League etc) then you may have a decent shot at research tracks there especially with proper PS. Would't mention sould searching, rather a concrete plan you had in place all along.. Good luck.

I think it is obvious that programs have not started sending invitations yet, however i wonder why they are delaying this year. I also wonder if programs already extended invites to so called creme de la crop applicants that we just don't know about.
I think it is just nothing out there….. this coming week seems interesting, but again no high hopes. Good luck!!

Hey there! I am not even thinking about contacting programs (probably won't think about it until beginning of Sept). It hasn't even started yet, and by contacting you are sure to leave a bad taste in people's mouth.

Anyways, I am in Northeast, so going to watch Mann Saab in NY (Aug 16th). Jeeyo!!

A colleague got his invite from UMASS today

Not to alert the masses, but I got an interview from Cleveland Clinic today. I'm excited! Good luck to everyone! I'm sure more interviews will be coming soon.
