Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Around what time should there be no more interviews offered? The silence from so many schools along with February closely approaching is making me lose hope.
Depends on the school. One of my schools interviews through February 15th and keeps their dates close to the invite date. Them, I'd say, if I don't hear in a week, no invite.

Some interview through March and April. Some schedule interviews farther in advance.

Depends on the schools you've applied to.

@whatsupdr have you heard/found any new news from the schools you're waiting on through your detective work cuz I think we applied to many of the same schools?

Honestly at this point I only have hope at Downstate, Temple and maybe Jeff, I am alive at alot more but seeing the pattern of invites in prior years I dont have a ton of hope..maybe EVMS. My post- interview rejection from Upstate killed me. I have one post- interview left to hear from but I dont even want to say where to jinx myself. Just praying the give me a shot. Who are you waiting on?

I'm waiting on Downstate (but I don't know if they're going to take me cuz they won't look at my new mcat score which is really upsetting me), Temple, SUNY Buffalo, Brown, Cooper, Virginia Tech, Howard, Creighton, and some others but the others I am waiting on I think are rejects that wait till the end of the cycle which is driving me insane cuz its like ok, just reject me already instead of drawing out this wait.

honestly I am so tempted to go sit outside the adcom offices at each school on a designated day of the week and just sit there, begging them, crying, getting them coffee, being their little personal assistant if that gets me an interview and into the school!

I'm in a similar position with interviews. 1 post-interview rejection and waiting to hear from another post-interview. I'm so anxious to hear the decision cause I'm not sure what got me rejected at my first interview

can you guys ask why you got rejected post interview? maybe that'll help?

I'd definitely keep hope alive at cooper and temple. I was complete early August at copper and got an II a few weeks ago, they definitely have rejected a lot of people pre-II too. Also temple, I had a family member who interviewed there pretty late a few years ago and was accepted

I am praying Cooper will give me a shot because their mission really resonates with me. One of my friends got rejected from that school pre-II and he was their ideal candidate based on EC and stats, so I am super worried and praying that isn't true for me cuz I would love an II from here. Congrats on your II from Cooper!

I was thinking that I may call for feedback. I got the invite so its not the PS, or secondary, or GPA or MCAT. I know I need to improve my EC's..but sadly I may have time to do that for next cycle.

Thanks! I interviewed last week and I should hear back this week. I think if you show you match their mission, you have a great chance. I don't have great stats (not great MCAT) so I think the match to their mission is really important. I hope you hear good news from them soon!

I am a NY resident w/ a Lizzy of <70, which is why I am so anxious with no acceptances yet, although I had 2 interviews so far. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Currently I'm waiting in silence pre-interview from Columbia, FSU, St. Louis, Buffalo, Tufts, Downstate, Jefferson, Vermont, Einstein, Mt. Sinai, Loyola, UConn, Penn State, Temple, Creighton, and Albany; I have also been put on "pre-interview hold" at NY Med, Upstate, and Drexel (basically rejections?).

So far I have interviewed at Stony Brook (November) and was put on their wait list and I interviewed at TCMC (November) and was deferred until who knows when. I have one interview coming up at VCU. Can anyone comment on my current situation and what my chances of getting in this cycle are moving forward?

but like you said, you did get the invite with what you had. Forgive me for being blunt and I am not trying to offend you but Did you say something at the interview? Were you pretentious? Did something the interviewer say to you not resonate with you? I ask all this because one person I know with amazing stats and publications got interviews at Harvard and top notch medical schools. He was rejected because he was really pretentious during the interview. My other friend, last cycle, she got interviews at PCOM, NYMC, and Albany. She got into Albany, but she was rejected at PCOM because she asked a question like what is your support system like for your students, and the interviewer got really turned off by that question and she thinks that's why she got rejected.

Honestly, this is such a crap shoot. We can try to assess every single sentence and comment but that won't get us anywhere. I really think you should reach out to the schools and ask them what you should do to improve since you did indeed get an interview and see what they say. The worst thing that can happen is they ignore you, the best is you get advice.

And no! STOP! YOU MAY GET IN THIS CYCLE. We have to keep HOPE alive, we have to. I am depressed seeing that its almost Feb and I have no invite and I see people telling me prepare for next cycle cuz I am done with this one, but as much as I agree with them (at times), I KNOW this cycle isn't done. WE HAVE TIME. Let's all motivate each other but also think about next cycle to be safe because as physicians, we always have to think two steps forward!

thank you so much! rooting for you on that acceptance! did you see how they "sorted" students last year on youtube - I was totally in love with Cooper from then on!

I'm also waiting in silence for Loyola. From what I've gathered, at this point, we're in a maybe file. Could yield something if things still say you're under review. Might not. But, there is a shot. And Loyola interviews through March normally. And some March interviewees have historically made it in.

Yes I saw that! Love it! think I've watched like every video on their YouTube channel haha. Thank you so much! I mostly lurk on this thread but I love how supportive everyone is!

So Stony Brook rejected me outright. What you can do is ask about their movement on the waitlist but I think you have a good shot of being accepted there because many many students apply to SBU with high stats as their "safety ( haha I wish I could believe in such a thing for me!)" so you'll probably move on that! Not sure about TCMC and with VCU, I got rejected pre-II so no clue there.

In terms of Columbia, I am going to be honest. I think you, just like me, is getting rejected because we haven't received interviews yet and CU interviews early on and their cycle is almost over. Buffalo, all of us are still waiting, no one knows whats going on there. I don't know anything about FSU or St. Louis. Downstate, we're all waiting but they interview late, as does Jefferson(i was rejected here), and Temple. Albany(rejected here too!) definitely interviews late, so stay positive on that. My friend interviewed in the middle of March for Albany, and got in on April Fool's Day! Ny Med(got rejected, notice my list of rejections just gets bigger and bigger) and Drexel get a ton of applicants, you can't assume them to be rejections yet, just wait and see. I mean honestly, you're in a better boat than most of us without a single interview. Hope this helps, its all I've garnered from the comments here and stalking schools!

For many schools there wasn't that much movement. Depends where you were wait-listed. Some schools are improving their yield methodology. Hope you have a better cycle this time.
Thank you 🙂 I have one acceptance at DO and I'm super happy about that. But the schools were OSU, cinci, and wvu so some have good movement while others not so much. But good luck to you 🙂

Yeah I'm pretty sure people have commented on the Columbia thread that they're completely done.

All I CAN say is never pretentious..I have nothing to be pretentious about. Maybe more quiet than anything.

That was so helpful. Thank you so much for the detailed response, I definitely feel a lot better! Best of luck to you as well! I feel like my head's just spinning after reading all these different threads everyday. People were right about staying away from SDN, but desperate times... haha

call them! honestly, you have nothing to lose, maybe it'll help improve your next interview invite, cuz you are getting another one! rooting for you!!!

She got into Albany, but she was rejected at PCOM because she asked a question like what is your support system like for your students, and the interviewer got really turned off by that question and she thinks that's why she got rejected.

I just have to say, that's total BS that she got rejected for that. I think that's a really good question, actually!

ugh tell me about it, people have been telling me to stay away, but truth be told, its really nice to hear people like @whatsupdr @Treach @bearintraining @cmo217 @Ari77 amongst many others, whose names I can't remember but are included in this, be super supportive, and so motivational when I am at my lowest. I mean we are all strangers but honestly, it does help a lot.

Oh I agree! Her entire interview went well at PCOM, but she had a rough time in her life, which she wrote about in her PS, and she really wanted to know what support system PCOM had because if anything happens again, its nice to have something, but the interviewer was really horrible about it, and my friend had said even if she got into PCOM, she wouldn't go because of what happened. Albany on the other hand was awesome about it! Honestly, it could just be the interviewer. I am not basing/judging the school by it. Some interviewers are just not nice people.

A dear friend of mine interviewed at Loyola in March and was accepted in April last year. His only interview.

Yeah it's really sad that that stuff happens. I had a really bad experience at one school and ended up withdrawing post-interview because of it.
This is why I like MMI. If you don't click with one interviewer it's OK, cuz there are seven others who might love you.

you're absolutely right about that. Albany is MMI, PCOM isn't!

Ugh I haven't had a MMI, but this couldn't be more true. My interviewer during my first school wasn't exactly mean or rude, just so damn old and stoic I could have brushed the dust off of him, hard to connect with someone like that.

So far I have far preferred classic interviews to MMI, but that's just me. Then again, so far I've been super lucky and I've really gotten along with my interviewers.

Yeah maybe my Loyola interviews just biased me against traditional interviews

I'm hearing back from my absolute dream school in approximately 64 hours. This week is the absolute slowest of my entire life. The past two days have felt like six years. I'm downright terrified, and I'm trying very hard to manage my expectations and emotions. But if I get in...oh boy if I get in...there's going to be a party so big that your grandchildren will hear about it. They'll be able to detect it on the Richter scale all the way in New Zealand. And all of you are invited to the great state of Illinois so that I can buy you a beer and you can all watch a six foot tall grown man cry like a baby for about four consecutive days.
