Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
honestly I am not sure. Maybe check out the school's thread that you have an interview at and see if anyone else sent in a LOI to that school pre interview? I've heard of people do it post interview because now that you've been at the school, you know it better and can write about it in your LOI, so that may be a good idea?

I'll definitely do it post II. Basically I want to guarantee them my matriculation if accepted. I'm also going to make sure I'm not hubristic lol.

As long as you weren't born in 1923 I think we can make this work.
Charlie, my father gave this knife to me, and now I'm giving it to you. It was made for my family by a silversmith named Paul Revere.
I was hoping they would show the Charlie Zoey wedding! Ugh they should do a sequel to this show like they are doing with Full House!

Do you guys know that any loi resources/threads? It's looking like my coming II might be my last and I intend to commit to it.
I'm thinking about this as well. I do think the school I am waiting for post- interview would rather have a LOI after you are waitlisted but I'm thinking why wait. I would commit once I'm accepted without a doubt and be very happy (keep dreaming I know). I think I'll do some work searching this as well. I dont want to appear desperate but I am. LOL. What do you guys think? If I am 100 percent sure I will attend should I let them know post- interview or wait?

My hunch says that this might come across as desperate. Since they are interviewing you, then they obviously like your app on paper, and so now it's a matter of seeing how you fit with the program. I know it would seem like you weren't doing everything you could by holding off on the post-interview LOI, but you might have killed the interview and have no need to even send one.

I sent a LOI post-interview with the same viewpoint as you - if it'll have any effect I'd rather it get me accepted off the bat, rather than off the waitlist. Won't hear back from them for another month though, so I can't comment on the effectiveness. But my thought process was this:

The school I sent it to practices yield protection. They obviously care about their acceptance/matriculation stats. Maybe if I express sincere interest in matriculating at their school, they'll be more likely to take a shot on certain-seat-filler. And it is sincere interest, mind you. I never thought I would fall in love with a school like I did.

Maybe this won't apply to you, but for me the worst case scenario (I look desperate) is a non-issue. I have such a **** gpa, adcoms would have to be pretty damn generous if they didn't automatically assume I was desperate.

Do schools do yield protection after an interview? I thought it was like pre II.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that the fact they practiced yield protection pre-II led me to believe that they were at least somewhat concerned with their acceptance/matriculation stat.

Well. Schools could worry about this for other reasons too. For instance, when I interviewed at WashU it was clear they were concerned their heavy hitters would choose California or east coast schools over them, and they tried to emphasize why people should seriously consider WashU instead

If a friend has not gotten a single interview at this point, do you guys think it's likely she'll have to reapply?

(I didn't read the thread, so I apologize if I'm asking something what has been said before on one of these 107 pages.)

Could see a post II yield protection if they got the sense that you are using the school as s safety or something during the interview. Because they care about wasting resources but they als care about acceptance vs matriculation.

She should plan on reapplying. Still possible but unlikely she'll get in this cycle.

Another rejection today from Cornell. Schools are making up for the long silences this week. Seems like I'll be getting one once a day 🙂
don't worry about Cornell. They only care about high MCAT and high GPA and USA students (aka especially those from Cali). Seriously, just let Cornell slide of. Not even worth the feeling of sadness cuz they really only care about numbers.

I agree with @bearintraining about putting in an update but I would def. send an LOI if this is the only interview I got because heck yes I would go there in a heartbeat and I want schools to know that. I doubt a school would deny me for expressing so much interest in them

whoa a school that actually wants CA students?

are you kidding, apply to like every school in New York, they love California students. It's pathetic how NY chooses CA over its own state students, really. It drives me insane. Heck, even some hospitals actually choose their residents to purposefully be from places like CA instead of NY (one hospital actually said this to my friend)

That's interesting, I wonder why that preference exists...

Wish I knew! Only applied to Albany, Rochester, and Einstein (none of which are state schools)

Just saw some downstate invites..not for me though 🙁

Does anyone know what the date is that schools can see your acceptances?

If New York doesn't show me any love, I'm not showing it any love! Wherever I get accepted, I will go there and stay there, start a life there, practice and serve the people there! That's how angry I'm becoming now. ( stages of grief). Lol. No love from my own state schools! Why won't you love me?

If a school accepts you, they can ONLY see where you are accepted. Not rejected or waitlisted. Until a school accepts you, they have no idea what your status is at any other school.
Ok thanks!! Just kills me to see someone get an invite to my state school ..to an OOS person with like 9 II's..and major heavy hitter acceptances..as they say the rich get richer..nothing against them just saying. So frustrating. I wonder if the schools saw how many acceptances they had would they be invited..thats why I was wondering about that date.

I'm kinda glad they can't see where I've gotten acceptances. I don't want a school to see that I don't have any acceptances and start to second-guess my application or question why nobody else likes me. I prefer for them to just look at me on my own merit.

Thats very true too I have thought about that as well.

I wonder if they let the schools see peoples' acceptances to help them figure out how many more people they need to accept to get to their ideal class size. Like if they see that they're the only acceptance a student has at this point, it's pretty likely the student is gonna matriculate there. But if it's a state school and the person has 5 acceptances to Top 20 schools, they can assume that person isn't going to go there and accept someone else to take that spot. Idk if that makes sense.

That's probably the logic behind it. But quite honestly the medical schools don't need any more cards to hold. For all the nonsense they put us through, they can deal with a little bit of uncertainty with their class size.

That's what I think too. It also helps their yield .

"2015 AAMC "Traffic Rules" for Students Accepted to Medical Schools (MD)
Published: Jan. 26, 2015
Starting in February, for all students they have accepted, med schools can see where else they have been accepted via the Multiple Acceptance Report. In April of the application year all medical schools can see a list of all applicants with a current Acceptance or Matriculated action via the National Acceptance Report. They can never see rejections or alternate lists or no actions for other schools."

so in April if you are waitlisted at School B, they can see you have been accepted at School A(etc). They can also see that you have no acceptances. That may factor into whether to offer you a spot or not.

Looks like this will mostly benefit those without an acceptance who are sitting on a waitlist late in the spring.

So basically schools that waist list me won't know I have zero acceptances and need them to take me

Didn't benefit me last year when I was on three wait lists
For many schools there wasn't that much movement. Depends where you were wait-listed. Some schools are improving their yield methodology. Hope you have a better cycle this time.

I hope so. 2 of the schools that I interviewed at have heavy waitlist movement very late in the cycle.

Around what time should there be no more interviews offered? The silence from so many schools along with February closely approaching is making me lose hope.
