Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am an optimist, but still a realist. I am not expecting an inbox full of II, but at least II where your stats and mission match the school (and the school is still actively giving out II)
I'm suprised you haven't got any additional invites. I just looked at your MDapp and it's awesome😱

But yah, it's only mid-nov guys. Some schools interview all the way till march and april and some will only let you know a week or two in advance. So don't worry much yet if you're still waiting for more II... or at least that's what I'm telling myself...

I still have some gaps in my app, but I am not panicking yet since I am only about 8-9 weeks complete at most schools

I appreciate the kind words though 🙂

Yeah, I've heard the "before Thanksgiving" thought here too. I don't know if this is true for the rest of you guys, but I've been taking solace in the fact that I haven't gotten outright rejected from most of my schools yet.

I've also heard the "before Thanksgiving" thing, but I've also heard a lot of "last year I got invited in February and matriculated." I think it's very school dependent.

Well its hard to definitely know. Thats for sure. Process is a crapshoot

I think what they mean is that if u have been complete since early August and don't hear by thanksgiving then you are in trouble...

Got in today on my one and only II.

To those of you with a big II coming up, here's what I did to make it count:

1) Don't tilt. This is a huge event and it's easy to get rattled by a question. I'm kind of a high anxiety person myself and you just need to play it cool. Use all your practice opportunities with your school's interviewing center. The absolute wrong mindset is "This is my one and only shot and I have to ace it". Use basic interpersonal skills and appropriate body language.

2) Talk about small medicine. We're not doctors yet. The clinical experience we have doesn't have to be earth-shattering life-and-death high medical drama. Talk about your day-to-day encounters with patients, describe what you did to help and its benefit, and demonstrate that you know what you're getting into. Remember, basic social interaction is fundamental to this discipline.

Do a quick search on your own, but most SDN and adcoms say to wait until the new year (January/February) for II.

School deadlines are mostly all in January so it would be absurd if they stopped giving out II 2 months before that deadline

Yea as stated I think if you were complete in July-August and it's Thanksgiving I would worry a bit(still not too much). For me if it's nada by the end of the year I'll worry, but I still have like 27 schools to hear back from so anything is possible. Why have deadlines if they don't matter? Wouldn't make sense so I'm sure they'll give out more IIs even after this month.

I like you.

But I also keep hearing that nearly every school is a bit behind in the timeline this year...so who knows.

Think the new MCAT has something to do with it? Would definitely be encouraging for us this late in the timeline.

I think what worry's me the most is not having II's from some of the NY schools I know Im in range for. I can take the out of state rejections which have been 8 so far. But I am surprised at this point not to have at least one more II from a NY school like Albany, SUNY Downstate, NYMC. I can even accept if I get rejected by Stonybrook, Einstein, and Hofstra and I threw in Columbia as a long shot. This concerns me.

Maybe they're just slow.

I think New York medical schools get a *ton* of applications, because it's such a big state... I already got rejected from Albany, but I know NYMC has tons of people applying, so it's possible that it's just taking them longer to sift through applications. I've got an in-state interview, but I'd really love to have more options instead of just putting all my eggs into one med school basket 🙁

Gogogo!! Pikachu will cheer us on EVERYTHING WILL BE GREAT

+1

I like this thread. Some of the other threads can stress me out listening to some saying " I only have 5II's and Im so stressed" Like really.

Yea, or "I have only been accepted to HMS, Princeton, and Hogwarts. Unfortunately I'm going to be a wizard/sorceress and a doctor, but I'm still freaking out. By the way I have a LizzyM of 85, but I'm chugging along with you guys! I know how it feels to be there!"

God... save me from those posters.

Well, when you're a genius, your perspective is um...different.

Just an FYI..if anyone applied to NYMC II's were pretty often in December..8 days...a few in Jan, Feb March and into April. Pre II rejections went out Dec 11, Jan 14,16 and 20 and Feb 3. Maybe some hope!

I love your detective work… haha

I submitted back in August and they received my Casper score in the middle of October. I haven't been placed on hold or anything so I assumed it was a silent rejection. Maybe I will find out December 11th :nailbiting:

Same here. Rather be rejected sooner than later, give me some peace. The funny thing is that I was accepted to Touro-COM NY and now NYMC is part of the Touro system, I wish that would give me an advantage.

Maybe you can send them an update and casually slip that piece of info in.. haha

I hear you. I'm very surprised I haven't heard back from Downstate or Buffalo; can't blame a crappy secondary on Buff and I'm pretty underserved focused and in-range for all of DS's stuff.
Maybe theyre targeting different types of applicants this year?
