Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought I would post this for posterity, specifically to ease the minds of people who may be reading this thread in future application cycles. I applied to 24 schools in a timely fashion, submitting most of my secondaries in July. I got a couple of expected rejections from OOS-prejudiced schools and super long shots, and then I heard nothing. Silence. For months, and months, and months. I watched my peers get accepted in October when I had yet to hear from a single school. They told me interviews would come before Thanksgiving. They never did. These past few months have been among the most difficult of my entire life. I felt like a fraud and a failure often. And right around the end of the semester, I essentially gave up.

In the past two weeks, starting with the very first day of winter break, I have received three (count 'em, three) interviews from really solid MD schools.

I don't know if I will be accepted at any of these schools, but I do know this. Some people are superstars. Some people have some kind of ancillary factor that makes them attractive to medical schools. Some people, for whatever reason, get into medical school without much difficulty. I am not a superstar. If you are reading this, you probably aren't a superstar either. I'm just a normal person who has tried to do everything in my power to put myself in the best possible position. If I do get into medical school, I will be incredibly grateful that it took this long--because this has been an irreplaceably humbling and absolutely human experience that will eventually make me a better doctor.

So, if you are reading this in October or November or December some years from now, I urge you to not give up hope. You haven't received a rejection yet because somebody sees something in you. And I truly believe that if you are a good and decent person who has worked hard and not cut any corners, it will manifest itself in your application and somebody, somewhere will recognize it, and you will go on to do great things.

Yasssssss bannafishyyyyy yassssss

Jefferson gives me hope! I sent an update into them and got a very nice response from one of the two doctors who run the show. Others got rejected when they sent in their updates so...I guess that's a good sign? I'd add to that list Rush and Loyola. I know a guy who got an invite to Loyola in March and an acceptance in April.

What email did you send your update to? I just got a generic confirmation email immediately after

It's getting pretty late in the game at this point. Most schools have sent out the vast majority of their II's. Not to say that it isn't possible to receive one (there are obviously lots of stories of people receiving late interviews and getting in) but it's always a good idea to be prepared.

Reapplying is not the worst thing in the world.

What you can do to get ready for the next cycle:

- Make sure all your letters of recommendation and all that stuff that you don't personally control gets set up and ready to go (late letters have screwed tons of people)
- Make sure you are ready to submit THE SECOND AMCAS OPENS. The earlier the better. I've seen people get maybe one interview invite when submitting in August and getting 6 or 7 when applying the next cycle in early June with almost no changes to their application.
- Get involved in something right now that can boost your application.
- Try to get feedback from schools as to why they didn't send you an II. Some schools don't bother responding, and other schools are really helpful (like Quinnipiac).

Yea I gave up for this cycle. Don't know what went wrong, but I have an idea where I can improve. Nobody's perfect and sometime life throws a wrench into your plans, but you know what they call someone who took two tries to get into med school? Doctor. I'll be back.

Do you guys think things will pick up with some invites this week? 🙂

From what I saw on last year's threads this is a crucial /brutal week. Lots of IIs and rejections from most of my schools come out this week. Holding my breath.

Well at least I will have a good idea Friday if I should really start applying to masters/ post bac programs soon. Don't want to, hope I won't have to. Good luck everyone.

Whats Friday?

Rejected by a few other schools this week. Man, my application must really suck for MD schools haha. Oh well, I figured I would go DO anyways.

Ive seen Stony, Albany and Quinn rejections today...feel like Im holding on by a thread!

ouch.. none of those relevant for me though.. .. btw whatsupdr, I see you around a lot -- wondering how the cycle is going for you? any IIs?

Why is that??

Because its the first business week after the long holiday. And January seems to be the last blast of IIs for many schools.
Exactly. From what I've heard, schools try to get in acceptances and rejections before the holiday break, so now they are faced with who (if any) of the second-tier interviewees (us) they are going to give interviews to.

Hi guys.. just checking in... im fortunate to have some IIs (not coming to brag).. but I was going to comment that there's still SO MUCH silence!

I have about 20 schools I haven't heard from, of which about 12 have given decisions to some applicants..
Who have you heard from, if you don't mind me asking?

II from who? Rejections from who? If you don't mind 🙂

Rejected from SIU, Albany and Drexel. IIs from Quinnipiac and NYITCOM (DO school). Probably withdrawing from Quinnipiac.

Wow, those are some really amazing IIs you have. I'm happy for you. 🙂

How do you guys feel about a "Its January 2016 and I don"t have an acceptance" thread?
I don't know how many sad threads I can handle at one time. I will say that even though on SDN it seems like we're in the minority and everyone and their brother has that little "Accepted" flair on their profile picture, statistics dictate that we are in good company--statistics dictate that most do not get in during any given cycle. Though it would be nice to get one of those acceptances.

Luckily I got my first and so far only II before Thanksgiving, so I'm telling myself that makes me immune to the Turkey Day curse.

Was just thinking in a support aspect and for future applicants.
