OMG I just saw this thread as an SDN post on my facebook feed...lol
Thread of the Day "Official Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!" Pre-Medical Allopathic Forum -
OH no on twitter too!!!
Haha it's about time. It's only been on the front page for like six consecutive months. To all of the applicants with lots of interviews and acceptances who were led to this thread from Facebook:

i have absolutely nothing....waiting for the depression to slowly creep into my soul in the next 4 years so that the medical students that I know now can diagnose me (perpetual sadness)....

but in all honesty, Im hoping it will turn around.

New to SDN but have been lurking this thread over the last few weeks. I appreciate the comfort in knowing that I am not alone in this 🙁. I have had my fingers crossed for all you guys daily!!

Is anyone here considering an SMP for the fall if things don't work out this cycle? I am trying to decide :sorry:. Feeling rather disheartened lately.

Start applying to SMPs now if you're considering one. Most have rolling admissions, so the earlier you apply, the better.

Do you happen to know of the well known ones for high acceptance rate (including ties)? I have been doing some research but would like to know of the "stronger" programs if possible
(my sgpa/cgpa ~3.4)

You're right at the cusp of where an SMP might not be worth it. Back when I was applying to SMPs (3 years ago) some of the top-tier ones were Temple, Tulane, Cincinnati. Idk maybe there's more and maybe these have since changed, but you'll need to do your research.

I'm considering applying, just gotta move out of the denial phase and into acceptance... just waiting on a meeting with my premedical advisor to make sure this is the best move for me.

Hey quick question is a banana fish an actual fish. Typed it in on google and all I got was half banana half fish creatures.
It's a reference to one of my favorite short stories, "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" by J.D. Salinger. Salinger is an incredibly interesting writer; he wrote hundreds and hundreds of unpublished pages describing the lives of the "Glass" family that served as the central characters in much of his work, so that he could write them more realistically in the published novels and stories. But no, bananafish only exist on SDN, not in real life.

Oh I see.

I have a post-II rejection and waiting on a post-II decision. Really hoping my hold at Drexel and interview waitlist at RFU turn into II! 5 silences left to hear from (if I ever will hear from them)...

3 invites for the cycle..one post- interview rejection ..now waitlisted...and one more to attend. Unreal.

noo 🙁 i'm so sorry, i was rooting for you! 2 invites for me, 1 rejection, 1 waitlist, i know how you feel

Just rejected from Creighton. The rejections from schools where my stats are average/above average sting the worst
I was rejected from Creighton today as well. I did talk to their Director of Admissions last week and he was really helpful in providing me with an explanation as to why they did not move forward with my app, and it was honestly not what I expected. For anyone else on here who applied to Creighton, I'd recommend calling and setting up a meeting. I appreciate their willingness to provide individualized feedback.... Though the rejection still stings.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's a miserable feeling, but all you can do now is channel all your energy into your last interview and really leave everything on the table. How did you feel the interview went at this most recent school?

What were the reasons? (Not that it's likely to be applicable to anyone else, but it might be helpful in general).

got rejected from creighton and saw that drexel put this for me on their portal: "Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed by a member of our Admissions Committee. While we have decided not to invite you for an interview at this time, we would like to re-evaluate your application again in the spring should interview spots remain. We have many completed applications to review and wish to hold on a final decision on your application until later in the cycle. Again, thank you for your interest in Drexel College of Medicine."

had one of the worst weeks of my life on top of rejections and to make matters even worse, i was at the hospital yesterday helping family, and the resident physician goes to me "what's your background - you know so much - are you a doctor" all i could do was meekly look on and say i've applied to medical school and havent received a single interview and what you're doing right now is my absolute dream. I wish I was a doctor so bad 🙁

I was surprised by how closely Creighton considers individual courses versus the overall GPA itself. Despite being a non-trad applicant, they really analyzed each course and the grade I received all of the way back to my Freshman year (which is now just about 10 years ago) based on its complexity and connection to medicine.

That's intense.

Getting ready to write a strong letter of intent. I need to get off that waitlist. Next interview is in about a week.

Really? Yikes. That's nice they can comment, but what are we to do about our 10-year old past?

AGREED - what can we do to fix our past - my god, these schools are really driving me insane.

It is definitely intense; more than I realized! I assumed that my strong MCAT score and success in post-bacc classes would be enough, but it seems like I need to take more classes or pursue a MS in order to improve my application (at least for Creighton). It is certainly frustrating... I wish I could go back and tell my 19 year old self to prioritize studying for Cell Bio a bit more, but alas. I get where they are coming from to an extent, I just wish that I had been given that guidance prior to going through this app cycle as most advisers I'd spoken with had emphasized ECs. You know what they say about hindsight! :smack:

hey guys.

would applying to the post bac (smp) at the same school that I am still silent reduce my chances of acceptance (or II)?

any experiences with SMP's?

I would assume that at most places the SMP adcoms are separate from the med school admissions. But you know what they say about assuming, so maybe give them a call?

I would wait until you get a decision from the school first. That's what I have been doing. Once I was rejected from the school I told them to transfer my application to their post-bacc/SMP program and they were able to do it easily. Give them a call though, they might have different procedures.
