Hello! First, good luck to everyone who will be applying this cycle!

For those of you who applied to UCSF, how long did it take for you guys to receive any e-mail from UCSF?

I paid my supp fee last week but haven't received a confirmation e-mail from them, so I wanted to make sure my money order arrived there safely.

Thank you everyone and keep writing those supplements!

**wow I just realized this is not UCSF specific thread -- I apologize....
Yeah how did you pay your fee? You have to pay it from within the supplemental application.

Hello all,

I have applied to a few schools and planned on retaking my dat. I came to the decision to not take it again until winter break, but I already submitted my supplemental applications saying I was going to retake it. I never scheduled the exam and just didn't have a good date to take it. What should I do, call the schools and tell them?

What is yor current DAT score? You can tell them to wait but depends on what your current score is. Taking the exam that late is not good. If you have them wait until then, I would expect to have zero interviews and zero offers. Just being realistic and from my own experiences. First cycle I took it in the fall few months before December and I didn't get anything.

I agree. Just take a moment to reason it out. I assume you already spent a considerable amount of money on this current cycle and to get the most out of it you should take the exam again, if you really wish to, sooner rather than later. Otherwise, like DMDDDSHopeful suggests, you won't get any interviews. It's all up to you.

I e-submitted 7/1, GPA verified 7/14, received supplemental from UCSF on 7/21. Like the others said, the supp fee is paid electronically through the invite link they extend via e-mail.

"Thank you for your interest in Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. We appreciate that you took the time and effort to submit an application. While your application has its strengths, we were unable to consider it further because you did not meet the minimum 3.00 Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics BCP) and Overall GPA requirement established by the program. For clarification, Midwestern University uses the GPA (inc +/-) calculations provided by AADSAS.

We realize that this may be disappointing news. We encourage you to take appropriate measures to strengthen your application if you wish to re-apply next year. We wish you success in your quest for further education.

Please note: if you are a student/graduate of Midwestern University's Biomedical Sciences Programs, your Dental Medicine application is still under review for this cycle."

Waste of money. I should've known better ugh (2.97 BCP, 3.00 sGPA, 3.10 oGPA)
Are there other schools that have BCP minimum requirement? I just learned this is a thing...

So what are the requirements for BCP for dental schools?
I don't think there is a hard cut-off for all schools, but as long as you have above 3.2 or 3.3 coupling with a great DAT score then I think you're fine, even for those super prestigious schools. Of course this is not a "minimum requirement", but more like what you need to be competitive.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions that it is a rejection. It's still early no need to stress yet.

Only 1 of the 17 schools I applied to have started offering interviews. Starting in August it's going to blow up

It happened last cycle with UB so I'm not getting my hopes up. I think they do this for applicants that are qualified and no reason not to give an interview, but not ready to invite or maybe don't want to invite. Also, no grounds to reject. So it seems that is what they do. Why? No clue. Some other schools just drag your app until the end and all they'll tell you is "under review". Everyone needs to remember it isn't all stats; This process can be very subjective. You can have a 2.8 with a 18AA and they love you and a 4.0 with a 24AA and they don't.

I think this is true. Honestly when I have done pre-dental days at dental schools, I was informed the student with the best hand skill came in with a 2.9 gpa but others with great numbers struggled. It is truly not all about numbers.

That make sense then. If I was a Dean at a dental school I would rather have someone with excellent hands skill rather than someone that is just book smart.

First Interview! I was shocked considering my relatively low stats and the fact that I didn't finish submitting everything at the moment.

School: UDM
Notification date: 7/18/16
Method of notification: email
Residency: NY
AADSAS mail-out date: 6/24/16
Application complete date: 7/20/16
GPA (science, overall): 3.24, 3.43
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): AA 19/TS 19/PAT 20/RC 21/none below 17

The only other school that responded so far was SUNY Buffalo saying that my application has been placed in "continuing review" and considering the previous few posts I suppose that's a rejection, which in my case is very understandable 🙁.

P.S. Not sure if it's worth mentioning, but my gpa, after hitting a low point, did have an upward trend (last semester was a 3.8).

Your stats are not low! They're almost average and average gets in dental school. Be confident congrats!!

Upwards trend looks good and all but doesn't amount to much. To give you an idea, I hit a low point too before graduating with a 3.5 and then did a postbacc that led to a masters and ended with a 3.9. It hasn't done anything for me and I can forward you emails for proof from adcoms. But congrats on the interview! I kind of wish I added UDM. Too late now, right?

something must be wrong with your personal statement or lor if you don't receive any interview this year. your stats are good enough. i don't see why you haven't been accepted yet.

Hmm...what's your DAT - could that be what held you back?

4 different styles of personal statements and all with different themes and overcoming struggles from health issues to low income. It is what it is. I'm for certain the evaluations are top notch. They are from well established professors that I've worked under for a good duration.

Hmm...what's your DAT - could that be what held you back?

Probably but I don't have the time to retake. If the 19AA/19PAT/22RC isn't good enough with all else then it is what it is. But yes, I probably would fair better with a 22AA instead of a 22RC. Lol.

So, what happens if you have applied already, schools have e-mailed you asking for your LOR & DAT scores. I haven't taken my DAT yet, next week will be my first time. Once DAT are done my committee letter can be completed and uploaded. If I need to retake DAT for any reason will schools reject me or wait to see my retake?!

Your dat is plenty good with that GPA. Plus the 22rc is super impressive. I would bet you will get some interview this year.

A 19AA is plenty good enough to get in.

Finally the last day of July, bring on August! May the Force be with everyone!

So will August really be crazy like invites left and right from everyone? I guess what I'm asking is how much more will it be compared to what we've seen already in July. I feel extremely blessed to have 2 invites, but I'm just wondering about the other 6 (not trying to be greedy just curious)

I can't speak from experience, I just know that a vast majority of the school's I applied to in the Midwest will invite from early to mid August, so I'm very excited.
