I have a specific interest in being in a few cities where my wife has job offers. I applied to a limited number of programs for this reason. I haven't heard back from some of the respective programs yet, and I was wondering if anyone here had advice on reaching out to the programs to let them know of my situation. If reaching out is a good idea, how do I go about doing it? Reaching directly to program director, emailing the program coordinator, or sending message through ERAS?
If your application is competitive enough you should get an interview. Either the programs haven't sent out invites or you were screened out
But requesting an interview invite simply because of your geographic/social limitations is quite a reach. It's a great thing to bring up when you interview and possibly even in your personal statement as well.
Sending emails will probably fall on deaf ears.
If you do have a mentor or someone willing to go to bat for you and personally call a PD or Chair... That might work.
Good luck.
