If your application is competitive enough you should get an interview. Either the programs haven't sent out invites or you were screened out

But requesting an interview invite simply because of your geographic/social limitations is quite a reach. It's a great thing to bring up when you interview and possibly even in your personal statement as well.

Sending emails will probably fall on deaf ears.

If you do have a mentor or someone willing to go to bat for you and personally call a PD or Chair... That might work.

I'd politely disagree. Part of being screened out can be because while you may be a reasonable candidate the program thinks they can't convince you to move, why waste a valuable interview slot? This is partly why you will see people on the coasts get interviews from coasts, South stays South etc. Residencies have much more room to play with and are competing more for applicants than applicants are for them except for at the top tiers, GI fellowships control this much more, they are literally culling from a pool of applicants that have passed through a very high quality screening process and given numbers alone are very low likelihood to go unfilled unless they overreach. For sure this is low-yield, if a program wants someone enough they could technically just invite them, but my counter would be, whats the worst that could happen? This is a big career decision, say you tried what you could to help yourself.

We were really confused about this when someone mentioned it earlier but it seems to be the case. Up until now we thought it was still in December, lol.

I can't post links but if you google "nrmp match calendars 2019" and use the drop-down menu selection for "Medical Specialties Matching Program", you should see it. There's also a pdf on the page for all of them.
