Official 2018 SHPEP thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ahhh the energy of being young… as your self appointed guardian/parent on sdn. Go to bed. Y'all need to chill haha.

Uhhh seriously confused.. does in review mean rejected? 🙁 what is going on

It’s a myth. “Hello ****! High performing applicants are not less likely to be accepted. We simply want to encourage all students, including those who may have had a rough first semester of college, to apply to our program.”
i really hope the high gpa can't get in thing is a myth.

Interesting, because it is the same two dates for me 3/13 for my first choice(?) (I did not prioritize them) and 3/14 for the consecutive sites.

Columbia - not accepted (action date 3/14)
UCLA - not accepted (action date 3/14)
Iowa - waitlisted (action date 2/28)

I'm not too surprised since the National Program Office officially said I'm not eligible since I'm technically not a "freshman" or "sophomore" with my junior class standing. It's whatever LOL

I agree. The program is targeting students who are disadvantaged in some way. It won’t be easy to convince me that a Ivy League student has any disadvantages in terms of opportunities.
I did too, but I think they might have a distinction between schools who have "good" summer opportunities for people vs schools that do not have "good" summer opportunities. If you are over qualified or go to "Ivy League" they could assume you have all the help that you need here.

STATS:
UF: not accepted Action:3/10
Columbia: Not Accepted Action 3/14
Rutgers: In Review

Sophomore
3.9 GPA with 17 credits coming into college
URM
Middle-class family
Maybe the high GPA myth is true maybe not idk
I guess I have to find other plans for summer *sigh* I really wanted this oh well
CONGRATS TO THOSE WHO GOT IN

I am probably looking for something that does not exist, not that the dates tell me anything anyway. Oh well, good luck to those who got in and those that did not.

My first thought with the "in review" status is that their system glitched with all the people rushing to get their results. Though no idea.

OK I'm going to prepare for a tutoring session I have with my students tomorrow so I'll probably check the website again in the morning.
Congrats to those who got accepted again!

Maybe I should have applied earlier but I kinda couldn't have because the SHPEP office messed up my transcripts and they said they had them, then they didn't, and they didn't communicate what was going on to me until the last day so whatever. I'm just mad because they made me overnight my transfers a second time which cost 60 dollars but they ended up having my original transcripts anyway so I spent 60 dollars to not to get accepted to any sites LOL life's ironic.
