USMLE Official 2018 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you check previous page, donovank posted a pic of what it should look like under schedule once permit button disappear...all it is left is your test date, prometric number and scheduling is not available

Thanks I saw it. The IWA page is a bit different thats why I asked.

Lurker here... Forgive me if I'm not finding this in here, I am so stressed and tired that I just decided to post and take the heat if I didn't catch it in the thread. Did we ever decide on the issue of permit disappears = a pass?
I sat for the exam on June 15, the current site for me says "scheduling not available" although my eligibility doesn't end until July 31. I was thinking that I should expect a score this Wednesday, just hoping that someone can tell me that the fact that my permit disappeared has some positive meaning in regards to P/F.

Thanks guys. Hugs all around.

I think it's just an unconfirmed rumor, unfortunately.

Isn't the test adaptive? Doesn't that mean that everyone's exam is going to be unique to a certain degree?

Not quite. As far as I can tell, USMLE assigns random blocks, therefore everyone’s exam will be “unique” in that you likely won’t get the same combo of blocks as someone else, but it is not an adaptive exam like NCLEX-RN.

NCLEX, though, makes you feel even worse post-exam because its algorithm tailors itself to what you’re worst at and then gives you nothing but those content areas for the rest of the exam. You walk out of that thing feeling like you straight failed. I got grilled on developmental psych, geriatric home care, and uses of esoteric Mexican ergot derivatives that are no longer FDA approved.

Give me USMLE any day. LOL.

It is definitely adaptive. Search 'Adaptive examination USMLE' into Google books. This is why some people come out of the exam claiming to have had 30-40% Anatomy, Micro, etc.

I cannot take it. I have no idea where I am in terms of score. Came out feeling so ambivalent
same, on one hand i felt like the test was just like UWSA2, on the other hand, the mix of post-test relief and the fact that the whole test went by in a blur means I currently have absolutely no idea how my score would be. Right now I’m just hoping to score where I was being predicted on practice exams.

Good luck! I am sure we will do great! Most people I have spoken to have told me that they scored a little higher than their USWA1 &2 average!!

Thats good news! Going into the test I’ve been under the impression that USWA1/2 overpredicts by up to 15 points, but if we can score above UWSA prediction then we’re pretty solid

It definitely is not adaptive. An adaptive exam such as the NCLEX-RN presents one question at a time and only moves forward without allowing the ability to go back and forth (i.e. having blocks). Each question has a set difficulty level which increases progressively with each correct response. A wrong answer decreases the difficult. At the end of a minimum preset number of questions, if the examinee is in the 'passing' range then they pass. This type of exam has a minimum and maximum number of questions which is variable (NCLEX = 75-180) and the exam 'decides' if you pass or fail at any point within that range.

This is nothing like the step.

No negativity here, just anxiety. Your score already varies +/-5, but your actual score can vary up to +/-13, with over 60% scoring the same as the last assessment they took.

+/- 13 of your NBME average or the last NBME taken?

Please see the instructions in my last post.

Just took it today and during half of it I thought “I’ve seen this exact question before” and on the other half I thought “I’ve never seen anything like this, I don’t know where to start”... Overall felt the questions were fair though and felt like UWorld.

I know I won’t be receiving my score until the next round, but do we get an email notification from NBME or do we have to periodically check the website? I wanna make sure I get the notifications and don’t miss it cause it goes to spam.

You get an email but I don't think it's very helpful, sometimes people get it after the score is already posted. If you took it today I think you should get your score August 1st (there's been some disagreement if people who took it early in the week have to wait 3 weeks or 4, but from everything I've read I think it's 4 weeks).

soo 100% sure now that it is not adaptive, there is a list of exams that use the adaptive CAT software posted, and USMLE is NOT one of them, here is the list: EMTs and pharmacist technicians are on here and so is the NCLEX

Hi guys, so for some reason I am able to submit a new application for USMLE step 1 on ECFMG, even though I gave exam on 6/28. Does that mean anything bad? My eligibility ended 6/30. Idk what being able to submit new application means. If I passed USMLE i shouldn't be able to submit it, no?

Why are you trying to submit it?
