Official 2020 Step 2 CK Experiences With Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah do you know when we can even expect to hear back? My first one is supposed to be in June and I just started looking into VSAS haha
Most programs will have a "date applicants will be notified of decisions" listed on their institution summary page. I have no idea how accurate that is, but I'm hoping it's accurate.

Doesn't hurt to look at the programs website as well in regards to this and email the coordinator.

One example, I had one site ask that on top of my VSAS application I needed to email the coordinator w/ my interest in the program (including all the documents required on VSAS lol). Got a reply in 2 days w/ a decision.

Just took CS. Don’t feel great about it at all. I went through FA 2x with another person and still don’t feel too good about it. Gonna be a long 2 months.

Family med shelf resources? Right now using dorian and will use the UVA questions. Should I power through Amboss too (~900 Qs)? I have heard mixed things about it

UWORLD + Incorrects + AAFP,strep, sti screening recs/deck + Dorian + A dab of outpatient ob/gyn, derm, and ortho (I used step up 2 med for this)

Got >95%ile

Uworld medicine? I already had medicine so have done all those questions.. maybe do AFP and some of Amboss then??

Also did you find Step up 2 med helpful?

Was scheduled for CK on Saturday and Prometric is now closed for a month. Idk what I’m gonna do for a month. I already did uworld x2, most of amboss and all the self assessments. Felt like i was ready to take it this weekend. I’m gonna forget a lot probably by the time I’m actually able to schedule it. My only plan I guess is to check out sketchy for IM peds and surgery since those just came out and see if they’re any good. Anyone else in similar boat and have any idea what they’re gonna do until they can schedule?

Does anyone else have a really weird UWorld pattern? I literally fluctuate from like a 60% to 95% depending on the day. My blocks are all over the place. I am doing UWorld different than most people so I am just hoping that's it, as I started it a month ago and have been doing randomized blocks from the beginning.

At first I thought it was just the usual UWorld start everyone has but I'm starting to get worried because I'm not seeing the same consistency I had with UWorld Step 1.

For what it’s worth this has been my experience doing uworld throughout third year. Anywhere from 60-90% with an average in the high 70s. I haven’t finished all of IM but pretty much everything else. The absolute biggest beat downs have been psych and OB for me.

Step 2 uworld is much less straightforward imo. I find the stems vague most of the time and exam findings are only ever partially described and don’t show you near as many pictures as Step 1 uworld did. Pretty sure I’ve had a few questions this week alone where you had to assume it was a lab error to get the right answer.

I’m really hoping the averages are somewhat inflated bc so many people claim to do it twice.

Same. I’m honestly only at low 70s overall. It’s super frustrating to roll a 90, watch your percentage jump, only to get beat down by a 63 the next day and have it go back to right where it was lol.

I’m debating taking an NBME soon just to get some sort of benchmark with where I’m at. Test day still isn’t for another 2 months so I do have one working for me (assuming prometric is actually open then lol).

I literally fluctuate from like a 60% to 95% depending on the day.

B/w 40-70% for me.

Personally my biggest problem is some stems do not list the Pathognomonic signs you find in some diseases. Or theyll describe some findings in a way that would make you think it was something else

UW for step 2 does not have that same " one key part of the question unlocks it" feel as UW for step 1. It is, on the whole, a lot more fun though to be totally honest. Step 1 studying was a challenge that I liked and embraced with a gritty attitude but step 2/shelf studying has been a breath of fresh air. The questions are tricky and sometimes UW has some real gotcha!!! questions but overall it fits so well with 3rd year it's crazy.

Keep grinding my friends

I love the ones where you sit there and question yourself if it really can be that easy, but then the next question looks like a slam dunk and UW is like, "NOPE, you needed to assume the negative test was a false negative."

Really feel like step 2 has more to do with test taking ability than step 1
Yes. Overall, I honestly feel like I have less facts in my head than prime zanki step 1 form. Sometimes I even look up the absolute dumbest stuff and feel guilty that I forgot it. It's pretty weird because it kind of proves that most of step 1 is actually about work ethic for most people whereas these step 2 questions are more of a thinking man's game. A lot of people disagreed with that notion outside the core posters of the step 1 thread but it seems pretty obvious given our results at this point.

It might just be that the resources for step 1 are just that much better. One good thing though is that redoing step 2 uworld is significantly higher yield than it was for step 1.

I’ll post this because I used to look for a similar post to give me hope back then...

USMLE STEP 1 2018 - PASS (220)

USMLE Step 2CK 2019- FAILED (207)
USMLE Step 2CK 2020 - PASS (240)

Yes it can be done, I’m not even the first...

Failing is a terrible feeling especially when you’ve never experienced it academically. We see so many posts about stellar scores yet people shy away from sharing attempts when there are many others going through the same scenario. Not the best scenario unfortunately but definitely a possible one. It requires as much effort if not more to overcome the mental barrier and go through the whole nerve wracking process all over again.

I’ll try to keep it short but you can msg me anytime with questions, concerns, or even just support.

First time around, unstructured studying, multiple gaps, distracted, arbitrary deadlines, and high risk taking...
I had finished all the nbmes at this point with low passes or even fails. I used UW and MTB mainly. I got ~210 UW1 and 207 UW2 a week out. Still wanted to do it because I usually underperform on assessments and I trusted my knowledge...

Exam day was a disaster. Halfway through I knew I had failed but kept going hoping subsequent blocks would be better. I left feeling so drained physically and emotionally. I still hoped I passed having read so many feel that way afterwards. The following weeks were a blur because I had applied to the 2019 match; the reason why I took my exam so quickly in the first place...

Suddenly, mid IV season I had gotten my expected score, a fail. By 2 points only...I tried to repeat my exam before rank list but I was too depressed and couldn’t focus. I withdrew my application and the journey to recovery began...

It is very important, to realize what happened, what went wrong, and what you can do about it. You won’t be able to focus and study again if you don’t fully recover from such an extreme shock. When I failed I had gained over 40lbs, looked and felt terrible. Thoughts were still racing in my head and my anxiety was through the roof...again, not an ideal place to start off preparing again. Pick yourself up, and gradually work your way upwards.

Second time around, things were different. I was eating right and working out everyday. I had revised STEP 1 notes, studied my STEP 2 notes again, and did UW continuously X2 + incorrect Qs. I also used Anki...
Even though I remembered some questions, the fact that my first prep was inadequate meant I didn’t digest the concepts properly and I was learning a lot of things for the first time. I went over every explanation and learned to pick up the pertinent info from large question stems. This just came with lots of practice and finding out what approach fit me...Don’t rush the process. Exam day was much much better, I knew I had passed but had no idea how I performed. Looking back, I feel that it would’ve been def possible for me to score in the 250s had I not been fatigued in the last 3 blocks. Exam stamina is very difficult for me. I did not do any practice tests or even the free 120s. I trusted the process and believed in my preparation. I used my performance on new UW questions as a guide. I had >300 completely new qs that I did timed and untutored. My UW avg the first time was ~63% and the second time was ~77%.

How much you want something will dictate the effort you put in and how much you are willing to give it...

Stay safe and good luck with exams everyone!

Congrats! Not enough people post stories after failure, major kudos

I’m 90% sure I’m doing DR haha I like the reading room. Considering trying to do IR through ESIR but I’m not sure yet.
Anesthesiology gang day 1... But have that few minutes of panic thinking of switching to radiology each day.

I decided to apply DR a few weeks ago too.

With all the craziness going on and cancelation of rotations, I decided to take the time to work through a few EKG texts and now feel decently able to go through an EKG on the floors...now I kinda want to read through Marino's ICU book and anki that up as well

i like to think im being productive, but part of me still thinks that I should be doing uworld instead...especially if there isn't going to be any away rotations or subis in my near future

Anybody else feel like not studying at all during all of this? I’ve been so useless that I’ve already decided to push the exam back. No motivation.

I've basically cut down to only doing one block of UWorld and that's it. It's the only thing I can get myself motivated to do lol. The real kicker is being in limbo with regards to PE, I was supposed to take it on the 22nd but I am 100% confident it will get cancelled. Here's to hoping i'm right because I have completely stopped thinking about it, let alone read cases out of FA CS.

I barely get through my school’s online “elective” course (reading and writing about COVID19, probably not helping anxiety and poor concentration) we’re on now since getting pulled from rotations. I get zero other studying done.

Mine was supposed to be 4/18. Then the cancellation extended to my date. The first date open was in November so I took one with the goal of continuing to check back. Someone got spooked about their 4/21 date and backed out so I took it (for now). I’m going to keep looking and hope they post more dates in May/June.

sooo all my clerkships (3 left) just went P/F for the rest of third year... hopefully starting 4th year July 6th. Would try and take Step 2CK early, but cant due to my registration period starting July 1 (current date I am scheduled for).

I am probably gonna try to bust out some research and try to crush Step 2CK.... Thinking of buying AMBOSS and finishing it the next 2 months and then restarting UWorld that last month. Sound like a solid idea?

Currently failing drastically behind on my questions. Was hoping to finish my 1st pass in the next two weeks.
At this point if you're at least doing something I consider that a win haha.

Ok, I haven't paid nearly as much attention to Step 2 as I did to step 1, don't know anything about resources other than Uworld. 75% correct thru about 3/4 of the bank, and it's been basically my only source of content the entire year. ~7 weeks to test date. Can somebody catch me up on what I should do between now and then to crack into the 260-265 range? Got a ~260 on step 1 and a drop would look bad for a surgical sub. Should I just finish Uworld and then restart it 4 weeks out and bang through as much as I can again? lol

Took 2nd practice exam today, so checking in.

Goal: 250+

1st Pass UW% (completed 2 weeks ago): 74.6%
UWSA1: 246 (5.5 weeks out)
NBME7: 221 (no coffee or breakfast before exam.. lol; predicted 247 via 2019 reddit correlation results & 246 via 2018 reddit correlation results though; hoping it's relatively accurate; 3.5 weeks out)

Planning to continue to work through my UWorld incorrect & finishing off the remaining few Anki decks I have; I've been keeping up with reviews for now. Taking NBME 6 next Saturday, NBME 8 the following Saturday, then UWSA2 the Saturday before Step 2CK.

If exams get pushed back in the near future, I plan on purchasing Amboss & working through that QBank (as opposed to resetting UWorld.)

Does anyone know how to do the CS trick? And do you know if it works if you haven’t taken CK yet?

How long do you guys think is needed to do a 2nd pass of UWorld? Do you guys think ~6 weeks to finish UWorld while on rotations (Chill rotations hopefully) is about normal? I know basically nothing about Step2CK prep haha so any advice would be awesome.

Checking in. COVID and a new baby have absolutely ruined my prep lol. Was planning on taking it on May 28th, now I've rescheduled it for July 14 with COMLEX on the 16th a few days after. Been slowly increasing my UW% that started low at like 65%, now I'm up to 73% and a little over halfway through the Q bank. I'm roughly halfway through the Dorian UWorld and OME sub-decks (just combined them and using that as my main Anki deck).

Took a COMSAE just to get at least one practice test in and got a 650, was pleasantly surprised by this although COMSAE scores typically mean next to nothing. I was planning on doing NBME 7 this weekend but because my date has bumped back 6 additional weeks I'll probably hold off on any Step practice tests until May.

Since auditions will likely be a non-factor this year really hoping to be able to bust out a 260/700 or something close to it to get as nice of an on paper app as I can.

Congratulations, my man! Definitely agree on the baby thing decreasing prep a bit, but I've actually been looking at how much time I've gotten to spend with my son as the silver lining of this whole Covid business.

Prep wise, I'm not even trying to do UWorld right now. Slowly working my way though the step 2 Zanki medicine deck, about 50 news a day. Doing some sporadic OME watching for stuff I don't remember/understand well. We don't even go back to the wards until June though and then I finish with medicine so I'm not feeling much pressure.

Mostly just trying to hang out with the kid and grind out some research, try to get a few more pubs before ERAS goes out.

Since it’s what all the cool kids are doing:

My prep has fallen apart. I’ve still got a little over 1000 uworld left. But I need to reset and redo it because most of it was done during the specific rotations. So I’m actually just trying to catch up all of dorian one section/week while slowly burning through uworld. I’m actually watching Boards and Beyond here and there and it’s still useful. No idea when I’ll test.

224 on NBME 6 today (249 via 2019 correlation results.) Thought I crushed it so reviewing tomorrow will be interesting I guess. The exam said I performed average for everything with no specific weaknesses, which I guess is good 'cause I had a couple low areas last week.

Checking in as well. Still registered to take Step 2 June 22nd. (Level 2 June 26th).
Still have ~1000 Qs left on my first pass but hoping to finish in the next 2 weeks.

Thought about trying to reschedule into July (currently have a Sub-I scheduled) but there was hardly any openings in the SE.

Edit: After the reddit post about May/June prometric posts about possible restrictions and cancelations, I decided to push my step 2 to July 1st and Level 2 to July 30th.
Will decide later if I push my Step 2 farther back or move level 2 sooner. This depends on multiple factors including if my july audition gets canceled or I'm not doing as well on my practice tests.

Did you have to sit on the phone w nbome or anything to push level 2 back that far? I heard it was problematic bc it’s a different fiscal year in July.

Holy **** are you telling me a possible reason they do that asinine split in eligibility periods is because they are too dense to work around when their fiscal year is for accounting purposes?! I've always wondered why they split it in such a ridiculous way unlike USMLE eligibility periods. You've got to be kidding me!

I'm thinking about pushing my June exams back as well because I don't see us being on rotations in June so might as well take the exam during July if possible for a bit more study time. I don't believe Step 2 will be like step 1 in that being on rotations or not ending on a dedicated will affect one's score if you had to take it during a rotation in the scenario we are back in July.

That’s just what I heard from my school.

I had the same issue. I figured out if you refund your test completely, and then subsequently buy a new test in the new year dates the July dates show up on Prometric. So that’s what I did. Was pretty straightforward.

No I did what @AnatomyGrey12 mentioned. Only reason I knew about this was because i did what you did last year haha. Its like an extra ~$15 compared to the previous year.

For those of you who rescheduled, were there enough dates available in July? Im thinking about doing the same thing.

Theres plenty of openings in philly for July when I looked yesterday.

Agreed.
My concern was the possibility of my test site being one of the few testing centers that don't reopen in may or june. Worst thing that could happen is you peak a couple weeks from where you plan on taking the test.

I'm no epidemiologist or politician but I don't see pro-metric being closed into july with the numbers goinig out there. Even with the concern of a second surge in fall. There would be too much repercussions from us and other certifying boards.

My test date is June 17th (and Comlex the following week). Hoping to keep them there for now but anticipating they might be pushed to July

So turns out if you submit your dates for comlex and step at the same time, both windows will schedule comlex. So I still have to schedule step but I've scheduled comlex twice. lol this is a f***in mess 🤣
That stinks friend. I think you dodged a bullet rescheduling. One person in my class just got canceled for June.

Did they start the random cancelling yet or what?

Email notification that Early June Test Date was canceled. Not sure if this is the infamous 50% random cancellation or not. Not 100% sure of his test site at the exact second but ill find out later

I don't want to push too hard for details because i'm sure it's a stressful time.

Helllloooooo, everybody and welcome to our module on USMLE Step 2 CK!

Checking in. Goal 260+ but would be super happy with 250+. Studying stalled super hard during the past month so I decided to take the opportunity to reschedule to mid July from very early June. Will continue to check for mid to late June date as that would be more ideal but also have to consider my mid June Comlex date. I decided I would rather take it too late than too early. Definitely got a fire lit under my ass though the past couple days and have finally recovered motivation and drive to destroy this thing. I don't see us being on rotations in June and probably not July so I don't really see the harm. Worst case scenario, I'm back on rotations in July and have to do a couple weeks of rotations before the test. I don't really care. I definitely won't have an away during that time because I highly doubt aways will happen and July is usually for home students if anyone.

Step 2 has been kind of weird for me. I don't have the same drive to do questions as I did for step 1. I am sitting around 80% on UWorld but haven't gotten close to finishing the bank at all. I have done really well on the rotation exams and read constantly (even now that I don't have real patients) so I feel like the knowledge base is still there. I need to get back in the swing of things. Like don't get me wrong, UW is still the GOAT, but it's not a resource that I feel is soooooooooo absolutely crucial to even pass the exam like it felt with step 1. With step 1, every day UW blew my mind. Now, if I don't know something it seems to be smaller facts or just totally missing something stupid in the stem. It's not teaching me how to think as much as the step 1 bank did. That probably makes no sense.

My main question is the idea that late June/early July was supposedly when new questions were going on CK but I wonder if that's still true and I wonder if my super early June date would have had them anyways. I don't feel like I could have dodged a bullet keeping the old date but who knows?

Good luck to everyone and stay safe. Let me know what's up.
