I thought you took it not long ago and can provide some guidance on how to understand basic oncology
I am an oncologist, so I pretty much didn't study any oncology for the IM boards.

If MKSAP and BB haven't done it for you, pick another study option. Or just go all in on cards, gen med and renal and hope the onc section doesn't tank your overall score.

So there's no way the median on UWorld is 55%. I looked back at my prior quizzes and there's been like 1 or 2 (of the 65 or so) that have an average of less than 60%. I would guess the average is closer to the 65% range. Anyone else notice this or am I about to get destroyed by the remaining half of my questions?

The average might be between 55-60% given that many (or most) go over UWorld 1..5-2x.

Fair, and also, the average time to do a question is 42 seconds??? WTF that's how long it takes me to read the damn question

Anybody else in fellowship and trying to study? I'm in a small program, so my program couldn't accommodate us for boards studying.. aka, still on inpatient consults and its been busy!

How are the ABIM questions compared to Uworld? Are they similar or different? And is there a good source for ABIM sample questions?

Me too.. I'm not doing MKSAP but UWorld.. and still on first pass :/

are you guys doing it per subject? or just all question?

I've heard that UWorld is much harder and the question stems are longer than the actual ABIM exam. I took Exam masters "Comprehensive Practice exam for internal medicine certification" test and that is supposed to be a fairly close approximation to the actual exam. The difference is shocking compared to UWorld. This cost about 70$ and was the only ABIM assessment exam I could find that wasn't attached to a qbank that was going to set me back hundreds.

Just finished up MKSAP ~70%. What are you guys doing with your last bit of time?

How was your score on it compared to UWorld/MKSAP?

Did MKSAP throughout residency and my second run through was ~75%. But I don't really count this since I had seen all the questions before and remembered some of them.
UWorld first run through I was dying and felt like garbage coming in at 55%
Exam masters ABIM assessment was 74%. It was a nice confidence booster

Of them all UWorld has the best explanations. Going through missed questions is gold

What's a good UWorld score at this stage? My exam is in about a week and I've been studying exclusively UWorld (had already done the Canadian IM exam back in March). Pretty much done UWorld with a 73% average score overall (just doing one run) and scoring around that lately on 60-question quizzes. Don't know any other residents personally in Canada doing this exam so I'm having some trouble getting a read on how I'm doing for the exam.

Your percentile in world is probably > 75%, so you are likely to get > 650 in the real thing

Just took that assessment as well, scored in the low 70s. Do you happen to have an idea of how the scores would correlate to the real thing?

I was told by a few that the EXAM is closer to MKSAP than Uworld. I hope that is true since I am not doing Uworld.
I'm only doing UWORLD lol.. trying to finish first pass. but that's what happens when you start fellowship and end residency with 5 months of inpatient time

If you are doing good (>= 60%) in Uworld, you will be fine. My friend who did Uworld first and then did mksap thought mksap was easy.

I just took the Exam Masters ABIM assessment test. Was there statistics for what the average score was on the practice exam?

I read from older posts in this thread that someone got a F**** 75% on the ABIM and FAILED????!???! HOW THE F**** DOES THAT HAPPEN?

I take my exam on Friday. I'm finishing up my 2nd pass of uworld but would anyone recommend doing some MKSAP questions as well last minute? I did them during my residency but I doubt I remember them.

Took the exam today, definitely a LOT more like MKSAP than UWorld- I did both. Just read the questions carefully, it’s a fair test. Good luck!

I did a full pass of UWorld, redid wrong answers, and did most of MKSAP. I feel pretty good coming out of the exam today, but we'll see in a few months.
Congrats on being done.
Do you feel uworld only is sufficient?

Do you feel doing MKSAP is vital? I can probably knock it out in 10 days…..

So do most of you that take it finish way early? Like I'm gonna freak out that 2 hours is way too much time to do 60 questions and then get lulled into second guessing myself a bunch because you probably have a lot of time left over, one would think...

Just took it today, finished with plenty of time on all sections, including having to run to the bathroom as an unscheduled break middle of the first section due to too much coffee

Congrats on being done.

Thanks! Honestly I thought UWorld was a little more representative in terms of question difficulty, but there were a fair number of questions that I only knew from seeing that material during residency or during my program's board review lectures. I can't guarantee you'll pass by only doing UWorld, but I thought it was a good representation of the question length and difficulty.

I finished with about 30 min to spare on each section and then went back through the entire section and quickly considered if I wanted to change any answers. I only ended up changing two or three. I think there's plenty of time; just don't let yourself use 10 minutes on a single question. If one stumps you, flag it for review, guess randomly, and come back to it later.

Also (I didn't know this going into the exam so figured I'd put it on here) there is a medicine-specific calculator in the testing software that will calculate things like CHADS-VASC, RCRI, Light's criteria, serum osms, etc. So don't bother memorizing all those formula and criteria because they will be provided.

Any advice on specific test taking skills? I feel like I get questions wrong even when I know the topic well. I come down to two answers and can't seem to pick "the best" answer.

Does this include bio stats equations?

u are never taking another
It's been 10 years since I took the IM boards, and I'm never taking them again. Not sure you want me to tell you how to study.
ur never taking them again because u dont need to as a specialist? or u are retiring? j/w

Because I'm a specialist and never have to take the general IM boards again. If they change their minds in the future and force the general IM board recert to keep subspecialty recert, THEN I'll be retiring.

Hi guys i am a horrible test taker so i never took ABIM and i just found out about the 7 year rule in dec of 2021 so now this is mt last and only chance to take this test.
i did awesome review once and read the notes twice already and i have done most of uworld but my average is like 45% almost done with uworld. Now my question is should I focus on the questions and redo my wrong ones the last few days or just review the awesome review books one more time? I didn’t do MKSAP do u guys think i will be ok?

Anyone bomb the ITEs and still manage to pass the boards? I never studied until the last 6 months of residency and scored <10%tile in all 3 years of ITE. My test is next week and I've completed UWorld twice and MKSAP twice, averaging about 80% on my second pass of UWorld and 95% on second pass of MKSAP. First pass was something like 60% UWorld and 65% MKSAP. I've also read board basics front-to-back twice and for the next week, I'm just going through an Anki deck I've created that includes annotations from MKSAP, UWorld and boards basics. I feel like I am prepared for the test but my horrible ITEs worries me. It seems like everyone on SDN did well on ITEs and I rarely see success stories from anyone with ITE scores as low as mine.
