In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

Hey kids,

To all of you who have been waiting since day one (DrVN, Oxeye, etc)...I'm right here with you.

Can you believe it is getting so close?

I alternate between: "It will be here when it gets here" and "WHEN IS THAT!!"

Who will be the lucky first SDN'er to see their score?
Who will start the first official score thread?
Who will get voted off the island?

That is a question I didnt bother to ask. Somehow, though, he seemed to know. He was a very intelligent man who didnt seem prone to lying soooo, I believe him.

Oh really? I read some post somewhere where this guy said he got a 43 and I checked the past year score tables and the score for 43 is like 0%. I wonder if he's lying...

If you can't tell by now, I am totally freaking out... The first time I read this thread, I couldn't sleep for the whole night. I was worried abt get like 25 or 30 or god knows how much... and I am applying MD-PhD so... >_'<

EEEEK. I've somehow now convinced myself that my scores are going to be lower every day. STOP THE INSANITY!

I think it would be cool to be the one to have post # 2000 on this thread. Hey, its the little goals we set for ourselves that get us through 😎

I agree, the short-term goals are the driving force for long-term goals. This thread exploded today...imagine when the first update comes out!

Your statement is more true than you realized when you typed it... the number of people who got 43 is "like" 0%, when you only report percentiles to the nearest 0.1... that does not mean that it *is* 0%

Roughly 30,000 people sit the MCAT each session.
0.1% of 30,000 (if I'm doing the math right) is 30... The lowest number that might round up to 0.1%, if they round up (I have no idea) is 15. So no, the percentile does not prove that he is lying.

Just ask QofQuimica, althouch I imagine she's sick of dispelling this particular myth by now.

Well, I have to break for a meeting now. My next goal: get back to SDN this evening and catch up on this thread!

So, do you think there's a 45T out there?

I'm just a bill

Yes I'm only a bill

And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill

Yes, All I have to do now is sit here and wait

While the Senators and Congressmen conduct their debate

Oh, I hope I will be a Law someday what thrill

but Today I am still

Just a bill.

No. There has never been a single person to recieve a 45 according to my data. It is not possible according to the bell curve that they institute. 43 happens, 42 happens. 44 and 45 do not. Again, this is just from my data that Ive gotten from different training regions. I cannot personally gurantee its accuracy but I would be willing to bet a good deal on it.

Appearantly, Princton Review released a notice to people who took their course that scores would be available today? That would be cool... I don't know where that is coming from but I hope it is right!

How can it be possible to get a 15 in each section but not in all 3 of them?

The test is scaled per section and not as one test, so one who gets a 15 in one section does not neccesary get 15's in the other two.

don't get into this....that's what happened in the countdown thread last august and it just got ridiculous. 😛

But theoretically he might, right? In other words, I don't see why it's impossible to get a 45, while it's ok to get 15 in every section.

What??? TPR is changing their story! They originally said yesterday (June 7th) scores would be released... Are they really coming out with a new prediction? I have to say it seems highly unlikely given the other info from AAMC... Just to double check, today is June 8th right???

I asked the AAMC about this, and they said that it *is* possible to get a 45 on any form of the MCAT, but highly improbable. Each of the three sections is scaled independently, so you'd have to earn three independent 15s. Considering how hard it is to get even ONE 15, it would be an amazing and very rare accomplishment. I don't know whether anyone has managed to do it or not since the MCAT was last changed (in 2003). I do know that during my test administration (Aug. 2004), there were eight 42s, two 43s, and no 44s or 45s out of approximately 35,500 people. I emailed the AAMC and asked how many people scored 42, 43, 44, or 45 in Aug. 2004, and that was what they told me. However, I do not know whether anyone scored 44 or 45 in another test administration (say, last year); it's possible that someone did. Maybe one of you did. :luck:

EddieIndy said:

from my understanding, the statistics are such that the highest score in recent administrations has been a 43, which includes people who got one 15 and two 14s. and prior to 2003, the highest scores in verbal were lumped into one category (your score was reported as 13-15). so while it's possible that in the future someone could come out with a 45, it has not been done yet, and the odds are HIGHLY against them getting a 15 in each section.

According to the AAMC, the bolded is not true. See my previous post. I do not personally know of anyone who took the test in 2003 or later and scored higher than a 43, but it *is* possible that someone did or could.

ah ok. so it is probability working against us as opposed to the fact that it can't be done. although, why some brilliant person hasn't done is is beyond me. maybe we aren't that smart... oh well... then again, with the new shorter MCATs, maybe someone might.

I feel like a broken record at this point, but since some of you apparently need me to repeat this for a third time, here goes:

It *is* permissible to discuss affirmative action (AA) on SDN, if you do so in the appropriate forum (Healthcare Topics) and if you do so in a way that is respectful to other users and does not involve making racist slurs. In other words, you cannot attack other posters (ex. tell them that they're *****s or worse), and you cannot make indefensible racist slurs (ex. declare that all members of a certain race are too stupid to score well on the MCAT). In case any of you are geographically challenged, you are currently in the MCAT forum. So since this is not the Healthcare Topics forum, one can logically conclude (think of this as a little VR practice in syllogisms here) that AA discussions should not be conducted in this forum. I don't know how to make the SDN policy any clearer than that. If you want to discuss AA, go to the Healthcare Topics forum. And play nice. It's that simple.

One other thing: please do not post actual MCAT test questions or answers on SDN. The AAMC does monitor this site, and they are very strict about this issue. So if you post MCAT questions and answers anyway in spite of us asking you nicely not to do it, I'll have to edit your posts to remove them. It's fine if you want to talk about test questions in general (e.g., to say that there was an acid-base question), but don't ever post the specific question, and don't say what you answered to the acid-base question.

I know everyone is anxious about scores being released next week, but it would be great if you would please cooperate with us; I hate having to delete or close people's posts and threads. :luck: to everyone.

Thanks Q! You're awesome. 🙂

The acid-base neutralization problem at the end of the PS section (it was a discrete question.) I solved the problem at least twice during the exam and many times after, and none of the answer choices were correct (they seemed off by a factor of 10.)

Was that weak acid/strong acid or strong acid/strong base titration question?

Q..so we are quite certain next week scores will be released???...how????

is the if you mix this with that and that with another that and then you get a weird answer that's 10x off. i am not sure how to explain the question without makign it specific...

No updates.... who took TPR... did they email you guys saying the scores will be out today?

No, they emailed us a few days after the test, saying the scores will be out at "about June 7th". We haven't heard from them since then...

can you sue them and get some money out of it? maybe stock up for your malpractice insurance...

I got confirmation from two different Adcoms that they heard from AAMC that scores would be released the 12th or 13th.

Continuing the vein of wierd MCAT dreams: I dreamt I got 37, which was sweet, but the score report was handwritten. they handed back the essay with written comments, along with your score. kinda bizarre. I also dreamt a good friend got 28, but that his score report was sent to me, so I opened it and had to tell him.

Our premed advising office sent this email out to the listserve:

-------------------------------------------------

MED: April 2006 MCAT scores

Despite the fact that a well-known MCAT prep company (not one that starts
with the letter K) seems to be telling applicants that MCAT scores were due
to be released today, this is not true. They have taken 57-60 days to be
released for the last 14 years and this year is no different. We have no
idea why this test prep company has been getting the hopes of April MCAT
takers up by saying this, but you might want to complain directly to the
management if this behavior bothers you.

The official word from MCAT is: "The scores for the April 2006 MCAT will be
released on June 20, 2006. An announcement of that date will be going up
this week on our main website."

----------------------------------------------------

I can't say for sure whether she's right or not, but I know this advisor and she's been doing this for 20+ years. She's as reliable a source as any.
Sorry guys! Looks like we're in for a bit of a wait.

I pass this on from the AAMC -

The scores for the April 2006 MCAT will be released on June 20, 2006. An
announcement of that date will be going up this week on our main website.

That's what we got in our email today from our health program director.

I don't think she knows more than the people who actually work in the MCAT office in Iowa...

Message form an advisor at Cornell:

"For those of you who took the April MCAT I just learned the following from MCAT:

The scores for the April 2006 MCAT will be released on June 20, 2006. An announcement of that date will be going up this week on the main MCAT web site.

It's hard to wait, but not too much longer now. "

I think it's safe to say it will be the 20th.

ARGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! There are so many different post with this source or that source saying the April 2006 MCAT scores will be available. This is so overwhelming for everyone who is desperately waiting for their score. I think i'm just going to stay away from SDN and AAMC website until mid next week and hope scores are out. I'll check SDN first and see if there are a bunch of threads about horrible scores and then I'll know the scores are out. Well good luck everyone with your method of anticipation control. 😱

There is no point going back and forth about this...one premed advisor has an official word, the next one will have another. WE have had multiple confirmations for the 12/13th and now the 20th....We all knew in our hearts that TPR is full of ****, so lets just be patient and wait for that first update🙂

I also just got an email from my pre-med adviser confirming that she heard scores will be out on June 20th as well. My first hope when I read it was that maybe that would be the written score report that came by mail and that the online access would be quicker, but after seeing what others have posted here, that seems unlikely at this point....

So countdown = 12 days??? 👎

I don't get it. Why do you think that premed advisors know better than the people who work in the MCAT office?!
