*~*~* Official Class of 2023 Thread *~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Finished my personal statement thanks to a lot of SDN members who helped me a lot! And have all my activities but haven't written any of the descriptions for them yet. Going to do that throughout May.

That's kind of where I'm at. I have all of mine listed on an excel sheet I just have to write the descriptions now.

I'm just a little worried about my clinical Volunteering/shadowing. I had hoped to have 200 hours of clinical volunteering before applying and about 60 hours of shadowing but I'm only gonna be at around 120 volunteer and 40-50 shadowing by end of May. I know on here that's considered barely sufficient 🙁

Most of my volunteering is nonclinical so I hope my clinical/shadowing is at least enough to show I have an idea of what it's like working with patients/being a doctor.

I think 40-50 hours of shadowing is just fine. I don't think it is a major difference, if any, between that and 60 hours. My volunteering is also my low point

All the adcoms on here say 100 hours of clinical experience is average/okay and that any more than 50-60 hours of shadowing is too much. So you should be okay.

I hope so! I did wanna get another 10 hours of shadowing in as there was this doctor who has already told me I can shadow them and I was interested to see another aspect of the hospital (they work in the cancer center and I've never shadowed anyone there). I just need to wait till after finals...

I can't believe AMCAS opens up in 2 days 😱

The deadline snuck up on me!

Somehow I still don't feel ready. I'm starting to think that applying is a lot like taking the MCAT - you never really feel ready, so at some point you just suck it up and bite the bullet.

Working on drafts of my PS. Don’t think it will ever be 100% but it’s at least not the steaming pile of **** it was at draft 1.

Also have some work/activities started that I did on last year’s application to distract me from studying for the MCAT.

I won't be able to start on the application right when it opens, but I do plan to work on it throughout the day. I think my personal statement and most of my EC descriptions are ready to go, so a lot of the work tomorrow should (key word....) be copying and pasting.

I feel silly for being anxious about applying!

Idek if I’m going to start hahaha I might fill in some of the basic stuff but man it is so overwhelming!!!

Only 8 hours until amcas opens. Who’s going to start right at midnight?
2 1/2 hours to go, let's do it. /s
(but for real, we should chill a bit - Submit by June 10-15 and we'll be verified in time)

Two days ago, I was honestly thinking "I'm going to have my primary filled out by May 3rd, and submitted June 1st". Now, is that what I'm still thinking? Maybeee :angelic:, but I'm not going to be worried if I don't get it in exactly at the moment everything is available.

I'm a bit jealous to be honest, haha. I won't be able to start right away; I'm non-trad as well but I work full-time.

Well, since it actually opens at 0930, I don't have to feel guilty for not starting at midnight lol. I'm just going to wait until I get home and then start. I'm lucky in that my work is school. I'm not trying to finish it all in a day or two though. I have finals the next couple weeks.

Started the TMDSAS yesterday, I’ll probably start the AMCAS today and the AACOMAS tomorrow, then just do an hour or so per day on one or the other until I’m done. Putting in all those grades on all 3 apps is draining.

I'm going to open it up today and just copy and past my personal statement in and call it a day

Do you have to send an official transcript to every school you plan on applying to?

Inputting all my 8000 transcripts.
For some reason, I didn't envision the grade entry form to be as... involved... as it is. I only have 3 transcripts and I'm already having a small stroke. I can only imagine what you're going through!

I haven't even gotten there. I'm still trying to figure out whether I need to list my vocational school. It's a non-accredited school that doesn't exist anymore because it got sued for defrauding students. I called AMCAS a month ago to ask, and they said don't list it. But my degree granting institution listed it as a transfer institution, so now I have no clue whether to list it or not.

I would call AMCAS and explain the situation to see what they say. That sucks, though.

Me after 23 months of stressing about applying to medical school only to realize for the first time that it's all just getting started. Anyone else already feel like a wizened old crone?

Okay, so I have everything filled out except for my courses. Definitely not doing that today.
Nice! I actually powered through and got my courses filled out - the only thing I don't have filled out is my work/activities section. I just keep waffling back and forth about some of the descriptions.

I wrote them all out last month so that I wouldn't have to do that now. I waffled then so I could just copy/paste now lol. The only thing I had to do was verify some of the contacts. I have 8 transcripts and 211 credits. I'm not looking forward to entering in all my classes.

Figured out my issue. I finally got someone from the dept of labor and commerce on the phone, and they are going to write a letter stating that no transcript from the school is available. Amcas told me to list the school and select none for courses.

Just tried checking them out but they still show 2017-2018 threads for me. Maybe they're still updating them?
The 2018-2019 threads are buried towards the last few pages. Looks like they're still getting the subforum updated, but the threads are there!

The 2018-2019 threads still redirect to the old ones

Edit: I guess not

They still do for me. Not that it matters much since we can't even submit yet lol.

But every time I get an email from AMCAS saying they've received another transcript, I'm like holy crap it's finally happening.

Haha yes, I'm very much excited! Hopefully it will carry me through my secondaries! Lol

Lucky. One of my three transcripts has been marked as received. One I had to physically mail a request to the school, so god knows how long that will take, and the third was requested electronically before the one that's currently marked as received 😱 I have a little anxiety about my transcripts making it in the timeframe I was hoping for!
