so what exactly happens for people who didn't get any initial match? i mean are there waitlists at all schools? should i phone each school and find out my standing?

Just wanted to say congrats to everyone that matched.
For those that didn't, I know it f-ing sucks. I didn't match last year either and it really blew.
As far as waitlists, you'll receive something in the mail in the next few weeks. I got my UTMB waitlist letter in the end of Feb/beginning of March. Not that it mattered.

Anyway, Evo, man, you know I'm totally here for you if you want to go out and drown your sorrows. But selfishly, I hope to see you in Vegas next year anyway!
Keep your chins up guys, there are other schools out there that will appreciate your brilliance, talent, and empathy.

Well crap. I know there's a lot of happiness in this thread, but there's also a lot of heartache for those that didn't have an "initial match." What a crock of BS. Chin up guys, I'm rooting for y'all, the underdogs. Those TX schools will realize their mistakes soon enough. 🙂

Echostation, I am so sorry about this. Don't give up hope though, I can imagine how devastating it is as I have many friends who haven't gotten in and I feel so bad for my friends. 🙁 But don't give up hope. If anything you have a whole year to relax and become even a stronger applicant. I know its easier said than done but try and focus on the positive aspects of these experiences. I wish you the best of luck. Don't let yourself get down by this. Just pick up the pieces and kick those adcom's assses next year !!

To those that didn't. Think of it a learning experience. Now you know more about the systems, interviews, and all of that. Last year I was broken hearted that my wife didn't match. But all the experiences that she went through then helped her this year. Anyway like they said above in the previous posts, keep your chin up. If you stay with you will get in!! 😉

I am so sorry to those that didn't match. But there is truth in the advice. If med school is what you want, then hang in there. There was a class officer in my class that had applied 3 times. There was another girl who applied and got in on her 4 try. So don't loose hope.
and I have a friend or two who found out they got in (off the wait list) the day before classes started. So you never know.
And those goign to UTHSCSA- my one and most valid piece of advice? Do NOT listen to them scare you into spending your CIC month in july studying. Party with your classmates!!!!!!!
