For those of you that are currently in the program (read IMRep, Tacrum, and Touchdown) you applied for admission to medical school in 2007 correct? If so, how many schools did you apply to and which ones were they - basically which schools are likely to accept an SMP student. I've read eastern schools show some love, and I've seen the accepted students page on the GTown website (which seems a little dated), but what would you guys recommend?

Great, thanks for the info TD. Interviewing at 5/16 schools is pretty solid - I'd be extremely happy with that kind of a percentage; I'm sure you'll get in offa some of those waitlists.

i don't know how big the waitlist is, but this is straight from dr. myers:

Yes, there is a lot of movement in our pool, mainly because so many of
our applicants are accepted to medical school.

i don't know why you're so negative, like dr. myers said, the waitlist moves a lot because people get into medical schools, even up until august and the last minute.

as far as the "when are you moving to dc" question, i'll probably get a lease that starts in july.

i'll second the recommendation to apply to rosalind franklin. i finished the physio program last year and i was accepted by rfu/cms this year. during the interview there, you get to speak with the dean of the school. when i told him i had done the physio program, he made a comment about how they've taken a lot of fine students from smp, so i definitely got the impression that they are receptive to the program.

i'd recommend wake forest too. i think there are a number of people from my class who were accepted there (maybe 3 or 4 in their ms1 class?).

of the suny's, i think downstate seems to be the most receptive to smp (although mostly for nys residents). i interviewed at suny upstate this year, but they only seemed vaguely familiar with the program (my faculty interviewer had never even heard of it). in general, it seems like upstate and buffalo are most receptive to out of staters. so, if you're oos, maybe apply to all but stony brook (pretty much no chance for oos).

i also know several people who received interviews at temple (including myself), although i can't recall anyone who was actually accepted.

aside from georgetown, i think the two schools that are most receptive to the physio program are drexel and nymc. they seem to end up with the most physios in their classes (i think around 10 for both last year). george washington knows the smp very well - i just think that they are a bit more selective with which physios they choose to interview.

if you want to add reaches, i'd definitely recommend case western and cleveland clinic (their new program). i interviewed there last year and i think a few others did as well. exmike, who was a physio the year before me, is currently a 2nd year at case med. the physio directors made it a point to make the program known to the admin at cleveland clinic. so, if you're into research (and have experience), it'd be worth it to check that program out and add it to your lists.

Well, you do need an appointment to see the "For Rent" places too. But I just called the numbers with my cell phone to set one up.

Another good resource is the Georgetown Off-Campus Housing Office.

At any major street corner (and metro stop) there is a white newspaper machine with the "Appartment Showcase" inside, for free. Pick one up and start calling to schedule tours (note this is for appartment complexes mostly located outside of DC, for G-town basements then walking around is the way to go.

I'm surprised they're not offering it at George Mason. They did last summer... Although, I did take some practice tests at Mason, and their site was awful (weak air conditioning and tiny desks = not a fun 8hr testing experience).

If not G-town, I would suggest UVA. I go to UVA and took the test here last summer. It's only about a 2 hour drive from G-town (w/o rush hour traffic of course). I'd get a hotel room in Charlottesville - or any place more than 2 hours away for that matter. But if you wanna go to VA, the closest ones are UVA (2 hours) and Richmond (2.5 hours).

In Maryland, College Park, Towson, and Rockville I'd say are all within driving distance so you wouldn't have to spend the nite there or anything. I would check out maps, though, and make sure.

First off, too bad GW doesn't offer it any more. I lived 2 blocks from my MCAT testing site. It was quite nice during the lunch break.

I would probably pick UMD-CP as a secondary site, but be forewarned. The campus is pretty big (and the metro stop may or may not be anywhere near the testing site). Of greater concern would be the fact that the Metro doesn't start running until 7 am on Saturdays and Sundays. If you end up having to take the test at CP, you'd probably need to get someone to drive you out there.

College park is the closest.

If you end up having to go to College Park, DO NOT take the metro to College Park on test day. The metro station is about 40 minute walking distance from the test site and it is unlikely that campus bus will be running that early on the weekend.

Rent a car, or ask a friend to take you there.

Richmond is only 2 hours away and the testing facilities aren't bad at all. Kinda surprising DC doesn't have more options... newayz, I'm still deciding whether or not to take the MCAT and on top of that where I am gonna be next year, which is critical for where I take my MCAT. The acceptance letter says MS in Physiology and Biophysics.....I thought I was doing SMP and not MS, which I thought takes 2 years. Is it the same thing? And since when is the deposit $500? I mean good googly moogly....that's sorta steep and it's due by May 19th.

Did everyone else get the same thing? Or did I apply to the wrong program or something?

Lol, you must not have read the website/application AT ALL... the degree that you get for the SMP is a Masters of Science in Physiology and Biophysics (check out SMP's website: smp.georgetown.edu).

Yup, it's 500 bucks alright. Mine is due May 15th. I wonder if that's the postmark date or if it has to be received by that date.

Contact them ask what you need to do. Basically fill out FAFSA and apply for Stafford Loan (up to $16000/year) then rest with private loan. Georgetown will assist you with all the information that you need to appy for private loan. I would suggest that you do this ASAP. You do not want your financial aid to be delayed or worry about it while the program is in progress.

Nope, one year MS from Georgetown. One of the strongest positives about it compared to BU, Loyola or Drexel, in my opinion.

And it was $500 last year.

I have Cingular and I do not have problems on campus.

If you are planning to take metro, Verizon is the only one that gets signal in subway stations. They must have some kind of a contract with DC metro.
