start looking into SMPs (special masters programs) and post-bacc programs NOW. Those will be your ticket in. Unless you do something drastic to improve your applications, then next year will probably be more of the same. I had to apply 3 times--doing my SMP was finally what got me into a U.S. allopathic school. don't give up.

My GPA is fine so I don't think I will be doing one of those. I'm gonna retake the MCAT if I have to and do more medically related work. But is this year over for me, is what I want to know.

please allow me to clarify--my previous post was not aimed directly at you--it is a general post to everyone in this thread who is not having much luck. Just start looking into alternative routes if you feel that would be a good way for you to go.

It was no secret why I wasn't getting in.....find the weaknesses in your applications and attack--i know it's difficult but you have to admit to your weaknesses and mistakes you've made and work hard to fix them.


i know the thought of taking an alternative route sucks.....but to quote Einstein...

No. SDN can be somewhat depressing as you read about all the successful applicants, but remember that most of these people were finished in July or August. Mid to end October til now is basically a month because of Thanksgiving and the winter holidays. In the early app season, the adcom just picks who gets an interview. Now that its interview season, they still have a pile of apps to go through to grant interviews, but they also have to give final decisions on those that have already had interviews. That, with the adcom going on vacation and the like, the process goes a lot slower. So I would not give up now, but you could start looking at Plan Bs that include post bac programs, but I would not give up yet.

If you haven't heard anything my guess is
1) App is sitting in a pile yet to be read
2) App read but on hold

Otherwise I would assume you would have a rejection letter in you hands. NOTE: I am not saying reject letter b/c I think you are unqualified, but I highly doubt most people applying don't get a reject letter from SOMEWHERE, be it JHU, or their safety school. So I don't think you should give up all hope. Silence=not a rejection= 🙂.

As for checking status, look at SDN to find out how schools notify apps. If the do it via e-mail, snail mail, phone call, why stress yourself out checking constantly? Bottom line: no reason to give up.
