hugs ucla supertight 👍 if it's any consolation, my dean's letter hasn't even been in yet 😀 I emailed him, and it says he's on vacation?

did they forget about me? 😕 🙄

hey ucla....you're not the only one!! No love for me either....

HOWEVER, this helped to calm my nerves though: I am doing an away rotation in IM and talked to the PD there about the whole 11/1 issue and the flood gates being opened....he said that while programs download the Deans letter and many offer interviews ONLY AFTER the document has been downloaded, you have to realize that the programs are going through hundreds of deans letters in the next few days...so the thing is is that although the letter is available 11/1, the flood gates are on a "time delay" of 1-2 weeks depending on the # of applicants they have recieved....while few may trickle in here and there, you'll hear ALOT in the next 1-2 weeks (both rejections and interviews)...

SO...while I'm not gettin' any love either in the last few days, I am trying to keep my cool, and the "advice" this PD gave me helped alot (FYI, I DID NOT apply to the program although it's a damn good university based program because my fiance will be in NYC and I'm only applying to NYC programs with a few exceptions)

LATER DUDES AND DUDETTES!!! 😍

To all those who've recieved interviews from Columbia, Cornell, NYU or Mount Sinai, how much lag time did you have between submitting a complete app and recieving an interview?

Thank you in advance for contributing to my paranoia. 🙂 🙂

Have an interview @ Columbia and not at any of the other places even though I have applied to all of the above, and it took me EXACTLY 20 DAYS to get the interview....

CAUTION: I did a sub-I @ Columbia, so don't know if that plays a role in it....

Hey has anyone heard from Boston programs besides Tufts and St. Elizabeth's? Thanks!

Heard from GW today. My list now is:
GW (did an away there)
Temple (my school)
Georgetown (did an away there)

Now only waiting to hear from JHU Bayview, UPENN, and Emory (only applied to 8 programs). Good luck guys 🙂

Cedars Sinai

I think I just got a Cedars-Sinai invite but I'm not sure though.
The ambiguity stems from the fact the subject line said "interview" but the message itself said:

Your application and supporting letters have been carefully reviewed, and we
are happy to invite you to one of our Applicant Open House days for our
categorical program. Please plan to spend from 8am-3pm with us to discuss our
program with housestaff and faculty. You will also be able to tour our
facility and attend an educational conference. A member of our Housestaff
Selection Committee will interview you and answer specific questions you may
have about our program.

Is the "open house" thing an interview or a "we're only kinda interested in you" day?

For those of you with CS invites, do they say the same thing?

For those of you curious, I just finished a rotation there and I think that helped.

That's definitely an invite. I think they're probably being warm and fuzzy by calling it an open house rather than interview day. Nothing wrong with the warm fuzzies. On the topic of Cedars-Sinai, does anybody have any idea how the merger of Cedars with VA-Greater LA will affect the program? I saw on scutwork that WLA-VA didn't fill in 2004.

a small update...

Step 1: 250
Step 2CS: pass
AOA
Year 3+4: honored everything except OB/gyn (HP)
Submitted to eras arond 9/7ish

hey, could someone let me know what is the fastest and easiest way to look up which programs did not fill in previous years?

thanks.

When I was there I talked to the PD about this and it seems that they were combined to round out the overall educational experience. I understood that that at CSMC you see a lot more Zebras and the Units are particularly intense and educational. The consult services at CSMC on the other hand, can be slow at times, so the VA expands the consult and bread and butter/clinic experience. The residents will also rotate at Olive-View, a county facility in the SF Valley. So basically, the new program will have three settings. If you look at the schedule online (sample), it still heavily favors CSMC and it appears that no more than 2-3 months a year will be at the VA.

Yeah, so far the Dean's Letter hasn't done much for me either. I know it's ridiculous to think that these programs were just sitting around, eager to e-mail me the second it arrived, but I think part of me was hoping that would be the case.

I would be happy to contribute to your paranoia. In fact, in the past couple of months I've come to believe that paranoia loves company...that's the only way to explain why I keep coming back here day after day, hour after hour...Anyway, my app was complete (except for the big DL) on 9/30. I heard from Mt. Sinai on 10/19 and Cornell 10/31. I applied to NYU and Columbia but haven't heard anything.

Just received Cedars this afternoon 😀

New: Cedars Sinai

Old: Harbor UCLA, UT Southwestern, USC, Rush

Btw, I'm curious about programs that don't meet their quota. If you don't interview there, you can't scramble into their spot, can you? Or, do you simply fax your ERAS application like crazy to all the programs that haven't filled prior to match day, and hope they take you?

My understanding of scramble is that you don't have to interview there- the whole process starts all over. You fax your ERAS and keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully none of us will have to find out the hard way though...

Yep, that's true. I knew someone that unfortunately had to scramble last year. You get a list of open programs in all fields and start calling/faxing any and all of them, regardless of where you applied. If they want you, they fax you a contract and you have a limited time to sign & fax back before they will offer it to someone else. After all these months of carefully deciding where you want to go, you end up choosing sight unseen in a matter of hours. 😱

I thought I remember hearing that programs could only download your photo after they grant you an interview. But I just had my photo uploaded to ERAS today and found that programs I haven't heard from have already downoaded it. Is that cool/allowed?

yah, all the programs can download your pics?

I heard about that, but it isn't true....they can download your pic even before they grant you an interview...

Hey All,

Just got Cedars-Siani this morning!! 😀 I was too confused about the "open house" thing, but... I guess it's an interview. Yippie! Now if I could just get some love from UCI!!! Darn it! 🙄

So what is the status of the "Boston programs" and Columbia, Cornell, Yale etc. Have they just begun the process of sending out invites or have they finished sending out the invites? It does not seem like a large number of people are reporting interviews at these places yet.

Seems like Cornell and Columbia have been givin some out bit by bit for a little while.

I havent heard of anyone who has gotten anything at the BID, MGH, or B+W. Seems like BU just started this week as well.

AugIM that is an extremely impressive list of interview invites that you already have. There are some programs listed there that have so far only sent very selective invites and will not even send out the "mass" invites for a week or two. Your application must be stellar.

wow, does no one in this forum have a normal avg step one? 😱

I know its still early, but I was wondering what's the concensus on contacting programs you havent heard from. I was thinking of doing it early next week or so. Can this hurt me? Is it better to e-mail or call?
Specific Programs I had in mind were Emory, Northwestern, and Harbor-UCLA.
Any input would be helpful.

Since the MSPE/Dean's Letter was only released on Nov 1, I think that it would be best to give the programs at least one full week to process the applications and contact them after November 9th or 10th if necessary.
