Here's to hoping that tomorrow will bring good news for everybody

DAT score finally in with my fingers crossed!
I already got rejected from ASDOH, not enough community service to the Underserved.
It wasnt official I had a meeting with an ASDOH adviser, she looked at my app afterwards and said they weren't extending an interview.
School: Nova
Notification date: 7/25
Method of notification: E-mail
Residency: OH
AADSAS mail-out date: 7/12
Application complete date: 7/8
GPA (science, overall): 3.93/3.89
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 20/20/20/22/no
...seems like NOVA is interviewing A LOT of OOS applicants which makes me a bit hesitant to be excited?????

Who really knows, but it was a bad move as an AZ resident to walk in there for an appointment right now. The way they've historically dealt with AZ residents is...strange. And with such an objective thing like hours to point to, that's going to be the answer for all sorts of people
1st Invite!!! so excited!

Interview invite 3 days after application completion, thats fast. Im gonna pick a date later tonight. Feels kinda good getting an invite now, considering I received none last cycle.
That would make sense. If I was on an admissions committee, I definitely wouldn't count pre-dental club leadership or tutoring other students without compensation as community service either.
I guess we won't know till he says something more specific (assuming he reads this).
The mission trip and homeless shelter are def helping the under served. I know some people count pre dental club leadership or tutoring other students without compensation as community service but ASDOH wants to make sure their dentists will set up a practice in an under served community. Heck, they make another school in Missouri for this very purpose. Maybe that's what their looking for?
How many hours to the underserved did you report in your app? if you don't mind me asking. What is the minimum number of hours they take under this category?
I reported about 370 hours of underserved community service hours. I don't know if there is a minimum but from what I know the average is anywhere from 400-800 hours. I have no idea what the actual average of underserved community service is though.
My service wasnt to the under-served. They are looking for service at like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc. I wasn't going to go in but my dental office rep suggested I should and she supplies there. The lady i spoke to was perfectly polite, honest, and helpful. I have several friends from AZ that go there so I don't think thats a factor.
I am sad cause its such a great school but I am glad that I don't have to keep my hopes up and can get ready for next year.

Did you have the same DAT scores last cycle?
Wow! Does anyone else on SDN have anywhere near this? This makes me feel that my 70-110 is severely inadequate 🙁
Just got NOVA rejection letter. Awesome!
I know all about it. Any halfway serious pre-dent anywhere near the east valley knows plenty of students and their share of faculty and staff. Myself included (in my pre-dent days...now it's just students I know). It's such a random hit-and-miss with them. I guess that's true anywhere, but this is a unique thing going on here. I know plenty who had exactly what they say they want in community involvement and had the 'connections' and then got shut out. I'm talking gold-star CASS crew applicants with the 'good' Volcheck letter. They're usually pretty generous about interviewing AZ residents, especially those with CHC letters, although not official 'hometown applicant' letters. And then there are jokers who catered their application to them and must have put on a good show at their interview because every one else knows that they hardly fit the ASDOH model. Just don't put all your eggs in one basket. They could very well tell you next year that they like to see more than a year of volunteering with the underserved. Anyway, I should have moved this to the school specific thread. Seems weird she gave you an unofficial rejection...is that even allowed?
I have 7000+ hours (honestly have stopped really keeping track) but to be fair I've been volunteering and doing community service for the same non profit organization almost full time for the past 8 years. Applied to ASDOH so well see how far those hours get me
Some folks have to work to pay rents and buy foods. Or hustle their way in the community. (I'm not sure this is the right meaning). These working folks themselves probably could use the 'community services that is required by the DS'. Good Lord, 7000+ hrs. My hat off to you Ms. Mona Lisa.
😵 That's even more than my entire time spent completing my bachelors. Some folks have to work to pay rents and buy foods. Or hustle their way in the community. Why do so many people want to go to that school (AT Still) anyways? It's really not that great of a school. It just got accredited and competes with Midwestern University and all of the dentists in the Phoenix area for patients.
