It seems like LECOM is all over the place on who they invite for interviews. I think this school is still trying to figure out what is going on.

I've said it before - schools like LECOM and western know that they're few people's top choice, and I think they have to compensate by interviewing a lot of people and keeping their prospectives list long. Before Lecom and westerners jump on me, let me go on the record that, even after seeing several other schools, I still find LECOM impressive. You just have to be sure your values align with theirs.

11 interviews? Wow what have you been doing to get those? Your stats are good but nothing amazing (same as mine). Congrats on all the love but Geeezzzz. You could at least throw the rest of us a bone or two.

Just goes to show how important volunteer and community service are in applications, along with being in the first batch.

Yeah, I have tons of long-term volunteering experiences, 3 global mission trips, and officers for 2 organizations. I also did 2 different research project for 2.5 years. I guess long-term means dedication and persistance? Idk lol. It seems pretty average to me lol. Just apply super early like literally the first day the application opens up. Personal statement is super important! Think about why DO you really want to do dentistry and what you have gained from it. That is what I did literally, I guess. Apply to so many schools lol. I applied to 30.

not to get too long winded or off topical ITT, but i remember an sdn article recently (for pre-meds) speaking to the presentation of your app; specifically, your personal statement. i kinda believe that while dental schools seem to seek academic superstars, it doesn't necessarily indicate someone with a 3.8 is any more qualified to navigate the curriculum than someone with a 3.2. my rationale for that statement is the existence of gpa cut-offs in the low 3s or even below 3.0 that exist for some schools...which would suggest there is some kind of minimum floor above which schools deem you qualified for app review.

back to it, who can say what any particular school looks for in any particular applicant on any particular day? you can be sure that based on grades, test scores, LORs, and (some or most) ECs...none of us are unique little snowflakes and adcoms will not be blown away. your personal statement, however, is your elevator pitch. it should be the magnum opus composed of the other elements of your application but done such that the whole of it is greater than the sum of its parts.

I agree, although my stats aren't the greatest, I've been a hygienist for 8 years. I know my way around a clinic. Needless to say, they sent a rejection letter 3 hours after my application was mailed. Weird.

Ouch. Someone else here on the forums was sent a rejection letter that was dated the same day of their interview. Sucks to spend your money and then get rejected right away. 🙁

Yes, it sucks especially because I have a daughter to take care of, a mortgage to pay, etc. I just hope my #1's give me the opportunity to at least get to know me through an interview. This is so stressful!!!
