**Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread 2014-2015**

I can't tell how serious you're being...You realize that the main reason you're hearing back from other dental schools later on in the process is because you aren't those dental school's first choice and spots open up because their first choices are not putting down deposits. Clearly deposits have their purpose in the system, and it's unfair of you to expect dental schools to wait for you. You had months to decide how you want to rank the schools you could be accepted to

I understand the purpose of deposits but for people who have interviews after being accepted into other schools, it's really unfair/unfortunate that we have to pay money as a "seat holder" when all our options haven't been laid out yet. And while I HAVE ranked my schools after hours of research and feedback prior to even applying, one can’t make a final ranking based on preconceived knowledge of a school until AFTER you actually visit the campus, talk with the students and faculty, and personally experience the school firsthand. I know my thoughts and rankings of certain schools changed after the interview. The schools I was accepted to weren't even on my top 5, so when I received post-December interviews to my top 1 and 3, of course I'm going to go! It is irrelevant whether or not I am a school’s first choice because an interview is an interview and I am still being considered for their program. Because my interviews are after the deposit deadlines, it just feels almost like extortion, forcing us to pay or else all our hard work/time/money will go to waste because our acceptance will be revoked!? I have no idea how anyone could think that’s fair.

Perhaps it is the system that needs to change. Why it that some schools finish interviews by December but others interview well into March or April? Maybe dental schools should have a definitive cut-off date for interviewing applicants instead of dragging it out?? I’m no ADEA AADSAS expert so I’m sure there are reasons why the system is the way it is, but the current system potentially penalizes those who didn’t get all their interviews pre-December, which there are many of us.

And call me a jerk, but I DO expect dental schools to wait for me. And not just me but for everyone who wants or needs more time in order to make the best decision for themselves.

I agree with this that there are some uncertainty, but here we are talking about the ones who seem to have multiple acceptance offers from their lists. We all have a favorite school (either based on location or cost or reputation...), and then the next one and so on. Unless we just pick them randomly, we should have a pretty good idea which one we would go for, if there are multiple offers. This is just my logic!

I chose one school to commit to and paid the deposit, should my post-Dec interviews not work in my favor. The fact that I still had to pay that deposit when I still have more interviews (at schools that I place much higher on my list) is what seems unfair to me.

lol...self entitlement much? Show this to the schools who accepted you im sure they would be more than happy to replace you with someone more deserving and appreciative of the opportunity.

I did not have multiple offers. I had multiple post dec. 1 interview offers.

"Maybe dental schools should have a definitive cut-off date for interviewing applicants instead of dragging it out??"
ADEA is already pretty generous. All the schools agreed to not accepted anyone until dec 1st. They could easily accept students within a week of their interviews like some other pre-health programs. Some schools have a harder time to fill up their class than others for reason for cost or for reason of having a bigger class size. NYU needs to fill up 360 spots while harvard only needs to fill up 40 spots. You can already see in here how many people have turned down their mwu-az offer. They will definitely need to interview more people. In contrast, schools like marquette has already held off on offering interviews. You can't expect the schools to all meet a hard deadline.

And what's more fair? Having no deposit and so everyone can hold multiple deposits, or having deposits so potential students can prepare months in advancing for their future? CWRU interviews until around March or so FYI. Either have students pay a deposit (which goes directly into the students tuition BTW), or have everyone else suffer.

The only way I could see this whole process working without deposits is a allowing a student to hold a seat at ONLY ONE school at a time. This would allow a student to have their back up school while waiting on their top choice. If they get into their top choice or a higher choice they forfeit the other seat in return for the higher choice. It could work and schools could only allow 15 or 30 days to hold a seat just like deposits and this would keep the process moving along.

And it's not wrong.

Think about it this way, if I get multiple offers BUT I still have post-dec interviews from schools that are higher up on my list. I'd put money down so that I'd have a school to go to next year but also giving me a chance to see if I get into my higher choices.

I am lucky that I got into my #1 in Dec so I would not have to make that decision. And it is a pricey decision.
Thank you! That is exactly what I meant. And congratulations 🙂

After 4 agonizing months of waiting, I finally received my first interview invitation from NYU today!

So far I've received rejections from: UW, OHSU, ASDOH, Loma Linda, and Western. I was waiting for some good news before posting anything!
Congrats!

Im ... actually okay with this.

Anyone know if they are still sending out interview invites for UoP, BU, LECOM, ASDOH, MSDOH or Pitt?

Just got another interview invite for Roseman University!!! This makes 3 since December 22! Unbelievably happy right now. Plus just booked a non-stop flight from Chicago to Salt Lake for only $200!

Put a deposit down to keep my space at VCU. Declined acceptances at Rutgers, Buffalo, Detroit Mercy, and Penn.

The interview day I was offered at Pitt back in December was the last available interview day and it was January 26th.

Sometimes I think certain schools laughed at my application and threw it in the trash...

I still have 10 to hear back from. What is taking sooooo long

ummm... i don't understand..
if you didn't have to pay deposits, everyone will hold their spot until the end, as late as possible, and that means you also won't hear back from your top school because someone who took your spot before you did is holding the seat, but didn't have to pay any commitment deposit to hold that seat..

I think it's a pretty straight forward, fair system, as long as noone plays a game.
What's not fair is people holding multiple seats very late in the cycle when they should have already made the decision by then, but instead dragging their feet and with-holding someone's seat that could mean life to someone.

I still have 10 to hear back from too. Some of which I know there's no chance lol.

Go to a different thread to talk about it. This is for acceptances and rejections. Thanks boys and girls
You're right, I shouldn't have brought this up here. Will move it to a different thread!

I'm sorry but shame on all the people complaining about paying deposits just so they can wait and see if they can get into a "better" school. Knowing full well that there are hundreds of deserving applicants who would do anything to get into their "worse" school but still insisting those people be denied so that you can have a better opportunity.

Seriously? You guys are going to be dentists? Selfish and unappreciative.

Yup. I am just waiting for only one acceptance and I can be forever happy! The only stress I will have is where to go for vacation...

Hence, incidences of late admissions in July or August as schools scramble to fill the sudden 'vacancies'

I apologize for my earlier post because I realized that it is very insensitive or selfish. I was totally in the same boat as some of you and in no way did I want to upset anyone and seem ungrateful. I was just frustrated because I could barely pay for this deposit and that my acceptances were conditional on my ability to pay. I did not say anything about "better" or "worse" schools. Every dental program is fantastic and has its own pros and cons. But my thoughts came off poorly and I'm sorry for that.

I appreciate the feedback and criticism for it was humbling and I truly wish the best for every dental school applicant!

I feel ya. I could barely afford my deposit, and I wanted more time to think between the schools. But in the end, I had to go with the cheaper (and more prestigious ) option.

UNLV Acceptance!!!!!!

Phone call

When did you interview? Are you OOS or instate? I interviewed in November, a week before Thanksgiving, and am anxiously waiting to hear back from the school.

I interviewed on Oct 17th
OOS

... Some schools (BU) have their deposit set at 3000 which is just ridiculous.
I would think this is a non-trivial incentive to keep the status quo and probably not just by BU, to generate extra revenue from those who can afford. Otherwise, the system could have been setup like the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), efficient, painless but no extra $ for the schools.

Interview Invite #6 for OHSU but I'll be declining unfortunately since I already got accepted to another dental school that was one of my top choices.

Aiight, so just to update:

Got interviews 11, 12 and 13 to NYU, Louisville and Tufts, I'm declining/have declined all three.

Got accepted to: Pitt (this morning), UF, Nova, Kentucky, CWRU, MWU-AZ, MWU-IL, and UDM.

3.31 oGPA/3.30 sGPA, 23AA/24TS/24PAT... I think. It's been awhile.

Have you declined any of the schools you were accepted to?
