**Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread 2014-2015**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Was wondering if anyone received any letters of acceptance from Baylor today. I know that they send out a second batch of acceptance letters in February but wasn't sure if they went out today or if they will wait till next week. I do know someone who received a rejection email today.

Acceptances:

School: UTHSCSA
Residency: in state (Texas)
Notification date: Jan 23
Interview date: Dec 8
Method of notification: email (12am)

I LOVED MWU-AZ, but why would you turn down a Texas school? The difference in cost is around $200k or possibly more. Once you factor in interest, possibly $400k. Maybe cost isn't a factor, but just....wow!

I have repeatedly heard negative things about UTHSCSA. Issues with faculty and that they are more focused on academics vs clinical. Don't get me wrong I think academia is important but I am a very hands on learner and I would rather focus on learning how to do something rather than learning textbook info I may never use in everyday practice. Current first years say that it is extremely hard due to some professors. The stress level at SA was definitely higher than at MWU. And it is not uncommon to repeat your 1st or 3rd years. On the flip side I have heard nothing but good things about MWUAZ. I loved the school and overall environment when I was there for my interview. The dean has really worked hard to design a program that focuses on preparing general dentists for private practice (what I am wanting). There are no specialties and therefore I will be able to preform advanced procedure if I wish. The basic sciences are taught in a systems based course (SA is not), which I feel is a smarter way to learn and helps one retain information better. Everyone I have talked to has said the faculty are amazing and so supportive, they are there to help you succeed. All professors are required to have worked in private practice prior to teaching, which I feel will benefit me greatly (5:1 ratio in clinic). Such an overall positive environment when I was there. MWU really offers what I am looking for in a dental school!

just got a voicemail from UCSF confirming my dream has come true and that those emails I received werent a mistake!! I just died and went to heaven a second time in the span of 24 hours.

Anyways... for that one dude who asked for stats:

sGPA 3.57, cGPA 3.59 (including classes I took in HS)
but graduated from my primary institution with a 3.7
DAT 23PAT/21QR/22RC/21TS/21AA
plus leadership/research/miscellaneous work experience in college. and have been dental assisting for over year now.
Submitted end of Aug. Completed UCSF supp first week of Sept. Interviewed Jan 12

Will be declining offers at USC and UNLV. Canceling MWU, Western, Buffalo. Still going to wait and see if I hear from UOP though. Hopefully that opens things up for some of you still waiting!

I've posted on this thread a few times, but here is an update:

UTHSC Interview 9/08/14 - Waitlisted
LECOM Interview 1/08/15 - Still waiting on accept/reject/waitlist

BIG NEWS (for me)!!

3rd (albeit late) Interview
School: Tufts
Notification Date: 1/30/15
Interview Date: 2/17/15 or 2/19/15

Stats: GPA - 3.15, sGPA - 3.3
DAT Breakdown: 17 PA, 16 QR (my only DAT regret), 25 RC, 18 Bio, 18 GC, 22 Orgo, 19 Sci Avg, 20 AA

I know being waitlisted this late & getting interviews this late doesn't make for the best chances, but I've got my fingers crossed!

Wow that's crazy. My dream school is tufts. Congrats 🙂 when did they place your app under review?

This is my second year applying, was waitlisted last year. I retook the DAT (upped it to a 21) and am getting my masters.

Have one waitlist so far this cycle and two more interviews coming up. My question is if there are any schools it might be worth adding last minute? Aka: have quite a few seats left/ have an OOS chance at a late interview/ are still accepting applications/ etc. thanks!

It looks like late September of 2014. I got an email from them on 9/21 about my application being complete/under review etc.

Best of luck!!

I dont think that's very important.

No school worth adding at this point. Most are still accepting applications until Feb 2nd but at this point you're just throwing money into the fire.

To maximize your chances, you should strive for your application to the school to be done asap. Ideally thats around late July, early Aug.

Not saying that you wont get in if you complete your application later. Hell there's probably a chance if you turn it in right up to the deadline at around Feb. But why would you slack off for months on a life changing process?

Which UTHSC did you get wait listed at Tennessee's or Texas'? Sorry they go by the same acronyms.

I don't think submitting my application in June, retaking the DAT in August, and working on my masters is "slacking off." I simply was asking if there were any schools it might be worth adding last minute to maximize my chances. Some schools are obviously already full, but others seem to have a number of open spots and adding them now may not be a terrible idea. I'm curious if there was any other input on this idea, not a critique my last 6 months

Pretty sure I wasnt talking to you in that post.

Were you talking to me? I just wanted to know when his app was under review because mine has been reviewed since September and I'm nervous I'll get rejected

Yeah, I was. I hope the best of luck to you. But even now I have schools that were put under review/app completed since late July that has not contacted me whatsoever besides paying for my supplemental application. In your case, I would contact the school and ask if you are still being considered for interview.

Typical Chow Chow attitude. Kidding 🙂

I'm Doge. I do what I want.

When did you finish your application and when was it sent out?

Good morning guys, I'll start off this beautiful Friday morning with a lovely rejection from Midwestern AZ. No email, just a status update. Kind of rude :/

Did you interview? If so when? I was there last month and dying to hear back...

Not sure if I got rejected but two Schools I applied to are completely gone from my aadsas and I never heard a peep from either school. Anyone have something like this happen?

I had two that never showed up in the first place but I interviewed at one of them so I don't know what's going on with that.

Really early. My app was collecting dust for sure. I finished my part 06/08/14 and it was sent out 06/20/14 due to my pre-health committee being slow with their LOR.

Rejection from Midwestern Downer's Grove, snail mail, no interview. Letter dated 1/21/15.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I just called Columbia and they said that they closed their last two interview dates so if you haven't received an interview, you'll most likely receive a rejection and AADSAS update by next Friday.

Western also has two interview dates left but they didn't say they closed them yet.

When you say you completed a post bacc is that like a masters program or did you complete additional course work at ur undergraduate school post graduation? I'm curious to know because I'm currently exploring the possibility of applying to a masters/certificate program.

Hey all! I've been watching this thread since the beginning of the application cycle and now I'm happy to share some good news. I didn't think I was going to get an acceptance because of my low PAT score but just kept praying and believing. To all of you still waiting, stay strong and keep the faith! My prayers are with you.

Either Des Moines, Kansas City or St. Louis. There is a shuttle flight from St. Louis to Kirksville if you wanted to do that, usually around $100 round trip for that leg.

No master's program. My undergrad (and most of the low grades making up my gpa) was in accounting. I went back to school on a post-bacc basis and I've done relatively well in my science pre-reqs. The only thing dragging me down is a C in an honors gen chem course I had back in 2007. My science gpa is about 3.3 right now.

Definitely! I interviewed there and had a great experience. Keep in mind there are still people holding acceptances to schools they won't attend.

Hey, it was the UTHSC in Tennessee.
Man that's better off than me I'm in state and they didn't give me the time of day. I've got about a 3.4 GPA and 19 DAT 21 PAT. But I was a double major and played college football(which they say that will help me). I guess I need to up my DAT a little more.
