Hi April 2006 MCATers,

Some posters have requested that we have one serious thread where only announcements and information about the April 2006 MCAT score release are posted. This thread is it. After the scores are released (on JUNE 20TH!!!), y'all can post your scores in here as well. But in the meantime, please while away the time in the Official April 2006 thread so that we can avoid cluttering this one up with unrelated posts. As always, please remember that false score release posts and threads are a no-no, and good luck to everyone waiting. 🙂

I had form CK and got a 31Q

HOWEVER, my breakdown is HORRIBLE!!

14 PS, 12 BS, 5 VR....freaking Bullcrap I tell you.

Any suggestions...I have a 3.9 GPA and solid resume.

man that is about the toughest breakdown I have seen.....but way to absolutely rock the other two sections!!

your gonna get interviews, but they are surely going to ask you about that 5. Just make sure you give them a good reason!

Well,

English is not the first language I learned, nor is what I speak in the house. I am Indian so I speak my native tongues....therefore I have always scored lower in Verbal. But this was the lowest I've done. If I re-take, I will likely lose my 14 is PS and be at the end of the application pool. I go to a liberal atrs college, have A's in all my Lit classes, and can write well. I just don't know whether I should re-take.

Also, I did get kinda sick during the Verbal Section and had to stop for about 5 mins...some protein bar I had during the break didn't settle very good.

I hate this, I can't be happy or sad...just neutral...

Convincing words. I REALLY appreciate it. Do you mind me asking if you have an email or AIM incase I have any more concerns about the score. I just think it was a bad day for Verbal, but I am certain that I can prove myself to be a good physician. Again, your breakdown was similar to mine and it gives me confidence that I can still run with this score.

I went to watch Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift...just checked my score and....

38Q!!!!!!!......11 VR, 14 PS, 13 BS

Elated!

Score: 39P (12VR, 14PS, 13BS)
1. Your Form (If you remember): BL

2. Your Practice Score Range: 39 on AAMC-3R, 35's on Kaplan

3. What you used to Study: EK 1001's, Gold Standard general review, etc...

4. How do you feel right now????? Ecstatic, Neutral, Disappointed, etc.
Happy, hopefully this will help me get into med school w/ a substandard gpa.

This is not true. I didn't hit save on the first essay either and I took the CBT. I got a Q on WS.

crap. i have no idea where that M came from then.

I had the same form as you (CK) and also had lower verbal scores. It didn't seem that though, but I guess they must have had too many "close" answers on that section

Score: 30Q
PS - 10
VR - 8
BS - 12

1. Your Form (If you remember): can't recall....

2. Your Practice Score Range: 28-33

3. What you used to Study: kaplan class

4. How do you feel right now?????
Neutral and Confused. Should I retake? i have a 3.85 gpa and English is my third language... Any comments??? Thoughts? 😕

i got well below my average, 29N, and I was considering asking for a regrade. anybody know if historically scores tend to change after a regrade?

The average MCAT at Harvard is 11.7 (which is 35 ish). You're fine with a 34 and everything double digits.

Thanks for the pep talk! So, I guess I'll have to settle for Harvard
- My goals are not so lofty.
I am moving to Seattle in the next 4 weeks. UW in-state 😀

I am starting to feel better. I just had so much anticipation earlier tonight. I still have to finish my personal statement. A teacher told me that if your numbers are high enough the personal staement and references really don't matter. I hoped that might happen and I would not have to stress quite so much about the personal statement. Guess I should get writing and editing :scared:

Wow.. a lot of good scores really brought down my initial high. THx says im in the 93rd percentile overall, but i just don't see it here. It looks more like the 50th to me.

Anyways...

Score: 35 Q

PS: 14 (high relative to practice)
VR: 10 (low relative to practice)
BS: 11 (low relative to practice)
W: Q (never practiced this)

1. Your Form (If you remember): FJ

2. Your Practice Score Range: Never took full practice test. Just sections at a time.

3. What you used to Study: TPR book titled Cracking the MCAT

4. How do you feel right now? Good. I don't think this is great enough to get into my top choices, but feel it is more than adequate to get into my backups. Like I said at the top, it is hard to be excited when half the people here score better...

Edit: Plus it kills me that DWade did better than me. Not the poster, but the baller he represents....

14/14/14!!!!

I have no idea what went wrong on the writing sample, and can't quite bring myself to care just at the moment.

Holy ****~ how did you study Pemberley?? What was your study habit?

I'll be the first one to post my crappy score, 22O.
PS 8
VR 9
BS 5
I guess I will be retaking it in August.

Score: 40N (11VR, 15PS, 14BS)
1. Your Form (If you remember): CM or AM?

2. Your Practice Score Range: started with 33, ended with 38-39

3. What you used to Study: Kaplan course + EK books

4. How do you feel right now????? Don't understand my 'N'. I never got anything less than a 4 on my Kaplan practice essays.

33Q- pretty darn happy-o
PS-10-never broken double digits
VR-12-about my average
BS-11-good bit lower than usual, but it'll do

Was hoping for a bit higher than a 33, but the real hope was double digits for all (PS KILLS me), so pretty content
Took an independent course in FL- Dr.Putzer, and used AAMC tests
Form BG

Top choices are Florida state schools, so should be good enough! Hurray to everyone!

I also got a 31 with 13P 13B and 5V and I explained my reasons for that low verbal score and I still got accepted to many medical schools. I am entering one this August, my top choice. So I am very happy. It all comes down to who you are and how you prove yourself to becoming a good physican when you go for your interviews. Also, type a small letter explaining the low score in verbal and send it with your secondary applications. Do not retake, since 2 of 3 sections are fantastic for you! I am also INDIAN.

Thanks for posting your story. I felt the same way as well.

A 35 is more than enough to get into just about any med school in the country. Given that you have other stuff going for you, you should be fine!

Although it feels good to have this chapter done, you guys are just beginning this year long process. Just try to be patient and relax. The year flies by (after you get interviews)!

To those who have to retake. Take heart and see this as an opportunity to do much better. I just checked the score for a friend who had an 18 last year (He is too afraid to check it). It took a lot of effort to keep his dream of medicine alive. I just checked his score for him. He got a 37Q. He is going to collapse when I give him the great news.

Everyone has their day. Today is for some and next time could by yours!

Just to make all of us "above national average but not on this forum" people feel better...

Score: 29O

PS: 10
VR: 8
BS: 11
W: O

1. Your Form (If you remember): Can't remember but a bunch of people in Dallas had the same

2. Your Practice Score Range: 29-31. ALWAYS got an 11 in VR-I'm so bummed. But never got above a 10 on BS--got off easy, only 2 OChem passages

3. What you used to Study: Kaplan

4. How do you feel right now? Pretty dissapointed and confused. I don't know if I should take it again. I feel like I put EVERYTHING into it. And although I think I can do better on VR, I know I won't get another 11 on BS.
Any advice/encouragement PLEASE??? I only have a 3.56 GPA. Applying to TX schools. Man, this whole process is really brutal.

hehe...

i didnt really study...
just took 3 practice tests from a $30 book, in which i found many errors. I started the Thursday before the exam.

my average on those practice exams was 36 or so. i thought i was gonna get a 34 on the actual test.

edit again: form BQ. hardest verbal i have ever seen. at least i got a 13 on it. the P is kinda average, but oh well. im not ashamed of my weakness for writing.

Score: 30Q

PS: 10
VR: 10
BS: 10
W: Q

1. Your Form (If you remember): FH - I remember b/c I thought it stood for f@%*ing HARD
2. Your Practice Score Range: 24 Kaplan Diag, 27-31 on Kaplan practice tests, and 29-32 on AAMC tests. Average for the last 4 practice tests was exactly 30...I was hoping for a couple of extra points on the real deal, oh well.
3. What you used to Study: Kaplan Classroom

4. How do you feel right now? It is a pretty bittersweet feeling 😕 . I'm sure I'll like it more after a couple of days, but with such a low undergrad GPA, I'm pretty sure this won't help my file. At least I get to post in the 30+ thread!

Sooo psyched. got a 40 S!!! I had been hitting 37s on the practice tests and glad to have my best test yet on the real thing! Congrats to everyone else who did well and the best of luck to everyone w/ applications!

No, you need to release the score to them.

Just looked up my score. How do you release it to tmdsas? Is it the "send to all schools" option? thx!

OK, thought I was going to get about a 7PS 8BS 9VR and O writing. Somehow got a 10PS 12BS 12VR and S on writing.

Question : how much does an S help one's overall score? It's about 97th %.

With just over a 3.5 from Berkeley, and a 4.0 from post bac program, how far up can I safely reach on the applications? Im shooting for a UC school.

thx!

s? wow... i bow to you. i have never heard of someone getting an S (i havent read this thread, lol. sorry if there are other S's.)

40S is amazing. i'd trade up for that score anyday.

First off congrats to everyone, you all did wonderful! 👍

Am i ok?

Wow you are a competitive applicant, a 29 was my border score to retake, but what state are you from, ECs, etc? A 29 is a good score 👍

Just came back from beer party. Treated all my friends

PS 14
VR 11
BS 14
WS O

39O

I'm delighted although I would've felt slightly better if I broke the 40 🙂

nevertheless, I'm very happy.

AWESOME score!!!! 👍

Score: 34T.

Breakdown:

V - 10
P - 12
B - 12

WS - T! Pleasantly surprised, but not really since I am a pretty decent writer and got a T when I took the MCAT before in college.

what form i had: probably AS

What i used for study: Kaplan classroom course, and EK audio osmosis

practice score range: 31-37. last score was 34, so go figure....

How i feel: here comes the spiel. I am a non-trad with college six years behind me, so starting off with a classroom based course made the most sense, and i guess it paid off. (Thank you, Kaplan!) Of course, if only they could tell me whether i should retake the test since i expected a better score...

Also, regarding score improvement, i must say i am quite happy since my diagnostic was actually an abysmal 21. Just goes to show that you can learn a lot in a small amount of time (medical school, anyone?)

Congrats to all the exam takers! Have a great time all of you! You've worked hard to get to this point.

Later,

👍

I got an 11 in biological, an 11 in physical and a 7 in verbal. Verbal was my strongest section, I got a 9 four years ago without any preparation. I had 10's and 11's going in to it on aamc practice. I can't believe I got a 7. I think I must have missed a bubble. After the actual test I thought I housed the verbal, is there any way aamc will review my test and catch that i missed like 20 in a row after i got one bubble off? Please Help!!!!!

I'm finishing my Ph.D. now, should i apply to a D.O. program, I'm drunk and totally worried now.

29 Q...

10 Verbal
9 Physical
10 Bio

I really feel like I should retake considering I hadn't taken most of physics (I hadn't even got to fluids!) but a 29 seems to be a pretty competitive score. Also, this was my worst Verbal, I was averaging about a 12 on practice tests, although my overall score was at the high end of my average range.

What do you guys think?
