**Official Maryland Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread**

Hey guys I also got an acceptance offer and have some questions regarding this school. If anyone with any knowledge could answer I would really appreciate it.

1: How hard is it to get in state residency? I heard it was possible and almost guaranteed when I interview but it sounds too good to be true.

2: I notice that Maryland is not in the ASDA background check; the PDF doesn't even mention one as well. Does that mean they do not conduct one or do I have to go to a separate website/service?

3: Where do people live? I never lived in an super urban area like Baltimore; is it easy to find cheap housing close to the campus?

Thanks to those who reply!

1. You can get it after the first year as long as your address is Md. and some bills etc. have to go to the dmv or mva I can’t remember what’s it’s is here and get a real id, (it’s a new ID MD Is doing)
2. I do not know this.
3. This depends on your comfort level. It is not safe to just walk around the city at night. You have to do research on this and honestly plan a visit perhaps. You can also commute from outside the city almost every highway leads in and out you just have to be wary of thick traffic in the am everyday... rush hour is for real around there.
🙂

Is the second round of acceptances today? Has anyone heard anything back

For number 2, I don't think there is a background check for Maryland, or they'll let us know, but there hasn't been any word about it so far.

Good luck to those waiting to hear back today!!!

I just called and they said they are unlikely to send out decisions until the new year... I interviewed Dec 3rd.

For those who are not aware, the school will likely be decreasing seats in coming years to match the trends of the retirement and job security.

The deadline for this school is 12/31. Is there still a fair shot at applying to this school?

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships yet? Or if you can even get them in your first year?

For those who got acceptances on December 2nd, how long did you have to provide a response to the school on whether you would be attending or not/to pay the deposit??

Has anyone else noticed that the DDS cost of tuition on the school's website says that for OOS students or "non-resident" students its 39,118.80? Is this accurate? Cause everywhere else I'm looking tuition for Maryland is 70,000+ for OOS students.

Does anyone know the actual tuition cost per year for OOS students? The stuff on the website just doesn't seem right lol...

That’s per semester cost

VERY few scholarships are merit based and offered before starting. You can apply for some through the school in the fall. I recieved a few grants after submitting my FAFSA as part of my loan package, which helped. The Health Professionals Loan is also great since it is no interest in school and a reasonable 5% with payback starting a year after graduation

Anyone here used paypath to deposit ? Idk why the website did not work for me (it kept loading)

It was a pain for me as well. It wouldn't load for me on Google Chrome or Safari. I ended up finally getting it through on Microsoft Edge so just try different browsers.

Do you know what sort of criteria you need to be in to be eligible for grants and the health professionals loan? All I remember is someone saying we need to put parents information on FASFA to be considered for the health professionals loan and that it needs to be submitted by March 1st.

They say it changes every year, loans wise it depends on you, probably 400k maybe a wee bit less or more

How long are the breaks for winter and summer? And are there any other breaks?

How long are the breaks for winter and summer? And are there any other breaks?

D1: starts August
small Thursday/Friday break for Thanksgiving in November
Thursday/Friday break for Faculty Training in December
Winter break varies, usually right before Christmas through New Year's Day
1 week of Spring Break in March
3 months of break after finals in May to August (this may change in future years- historically it was so rising D2s could study for and take Part 1 of boards)

D2: starts in August
small Thursday/Friday break for Thanksgiving in November
Thursday/Friday break for Faculty Training in December
Winter break varies, usually right before Christmas through New Year's Day
1 week of Spring Break in March
1 week after Finals in May

D3: 2 weeks of clinic orientation in late May-early June
Everyone in clinic for until end of June
1 week first week of July
Half the class has 3 weeks of clinic in July, other half has 3 weeks break = SWITCH
Then the regular repeating breaks as above in D1 and D2

D4: no break between finals in May and that week off in July
A lot more autonomy within reason - take a few days off at your own risk and maintain clinic attendance and experiences with patients
You have will have various clinic externships, boards, residency interviews, etc to work around
Same breaks as D1/D2/D3, but D4s are out of clinic pending meeting all requirements by the end of April

Does anyone know the 4 year cost (tuition and fees only) for OOS students as well as OOS for 1st year and then IS for years 2-4? I found a budget sheet on the site but the 4 year cost isn't displayed clearly.

Look at this lovely resource I posted a few weeks ago. It is by semester https://www.umaryland.edu/media/umb/af/sa/dds.pdf

I did a full breakdown on page 6 for 1st year estimate of IS versus OOS
You can easily recalculate per year based on the years listed on that sheet.
Generally IS increases 5-10% per year, OOS is usually 3-5% increase. Fees vary, but stay within inflation levels of 3%
With that said IS will likely be 300k, OOS 350-400k especially since most people get IS starting with 2nd year as long as they planned accordingly

Would you recommend taking my car with me to Baltimore? Would you consider it a necessity or is Ubering around ok?

If you are not familiar with Baltimore, I recommend driving since Baltimore can be dangerous on some streets, and I personally feel safer if I'm in my own car 🙂

Not to mention if you want to drive farther outside of Bmore on a day or weekend trip it’ll be way better with you own vehicle. 🙂

Does anyone know when they're sending out more acceptances?

above it was said that people who got accepted on December 2nd were given until January second to turn all their stuff in. So you can assume the deadline was 5 pm on the second. (roughly). So by the end of today (super roughly) you can assume they will have an accurate (ish) class size number. This will allow them to send out more. However also above it was said they are recalculating class size or something so who knows if its 132 or not... now December 16th was supposed to be the second "release" date but i find that silly since they gave the first round a month to reply and the 16th is only two weeks after the first "release" date...Since there is no other "set" date it is unknown A: (how many/if) seats are open and B: an exact time of "release"... so if they are coming it could literally be anytime between now.... and as the admissions staff put it.... the third day of orientation. but Ii have not bothered them/ asked them so im just drawing these conclusions.
