OFFICIAL NORTHWESTERN COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So is there a difference between "A final decision has been made" or just "A decision has been made."? I just checked today and I got the latter. I hope it's good news.........

I hate to post this since everyone is getting rejections, but I just got my acceptance letter from Northwestern today! Actually, I got three envelopes from them (letter, fin aid, 2nd look week). So who is going to the second look weekend next week? I will be there!

I really do apologize for putting this here, since it seems like a lot of people got rejection letters, but since it is the Northwestern thread I thought it would be appropriate. My condolances. I have come to determine this whole thing is a crapshoot anyways. I just found out today I am in the lower tier of the waitlist at Michigan, where I thought my interviews went really, really well, unlike Northwestern. Best of luck to all you guys and I hope you get into other good schools.

Dylann,
Congrats!!!!
What day did your status page change and did it change to "a decision has been made" or "a final decision has been made"?

Hi. I interviewed on March 8 and received my acceptance on the Saturday of this Easter weekend.

My status page said "A decision has been made on your application."

Hope that helps.

I guess my status check changed sometime after mid-day Thursday (still under consideration) and Sunday. It says "A decision has been made on your application."

sorry Jalbrekt. who knows what they look for. sometimes when you think you did your worst, they accept you, and when you think you did your best, they reject you. i don't know what that's about. but you still have USC locked up. stayin in Cali sounds pretty cool. gluck with your other top choice.

PS. you can always go to chicago for residencies.

Has anybody else recieved anything today?? Or is the mail in Gainesville JUST THAT SLOW?!?! I mean, I'm probably waiting for the rejection letter, since my status changed the same day as most others who have gotten rejections, but I want to see it in my hand before I get upset about it!
This page needed to be brought up to the top anyway...

Hey guys,

I checked the page yesterday and I clearly recall that it said "a final decision has been made on your application." I checked back this morning and somehow, it now says "a decision has been made on your application."

So guess what. I called and they said my letter was going out today. I offered to come pick it up since I live only 10 minutes away... I just got back.... waitlisted. :)

I actually received an acceptance today...like a previous poster said, there are three separate letters (acceptance leter, financial aid forms, and a preview weekend invite)...good luck to you and don't stress, if it was meant to be you'll get in. oh, it was dated March 29th andI'm in Minnesota if that helps you narrow down a time frame for your letter.

i just checked the northwestern website and this is what is says:

FINAL ADMISSION DECISION

A decision has been made on your application.

hope this clears up any confusion about how the word "final" might have gotten in there.

•i just wanted to post that when i interviewed on jan. 11th, the woman who told us about the admissions process said that upon completing the interview process, the committee accepts 1/3, waitlists 1/3 and rejects 1/3. so this is contrary to what many others have been posting about only 30 people being rejected in total.

dukegirlie  •••••unless you just get rejected pre-interview like some of us :(

I tried calling today as well, and was passed along to somebody's answering machine. I did find out that my letter was being mailed today. So I guess they mail letters the day after updating the status webpage.

Just have a question: What's a "bump" mean? Congrats to all of you who got into NU! I'm totally excited to meet you in the fall :p Serious condolances to the disappointment... it's a really weird process to get into one school and say not another. I was quickly accepted to NU and quickly rejected from many other obscure schools.

Bump just means that you want to move the thread to the top of the list my posting. People usually do this to elicit more responses to the thread. Hope that helps. :)

Thanks! So anyone have any thoughts on Northwestern vs. Georgetown? Or is that one a no brainer? I LOVED both and am considering both, though I was much more impressed by Northwesterns hospital and it seems to have a better reputed med program. Any thoughts? thanks!

Got waitlisted today. Postmarked on April 2.

The waitlist letter comes in a regular-size
envelope, so don't panic if you don't see an
enormous envelope.

This really sucks. You have to return this form
to them to accept or decline the alternate list
offer -- it has five lines for you to give
"reasons."

Argh.

Any thoughts? thanks!•••••Most definitely a "no-brainer" in my opinion...NW has THE nicest hospital out of any that I visited, P/F versus grades at Gtown, students a lot more laid back (personally, they didn't rub me the right way) and better residency matching...Chicago's better than DC too! IMO, I'm a little biased of course

hawkeyes:
I got accepted to both also. While G'town is a good school and i liked it there, it really was a no-brainer to choose NW, everyhting seemed to fit my personality.

Also, i got accepted on the previous cycle but i checked my status page to see what it said about the "final" decision, and it seems that i'm no longer in their system, it doesnt recognize my amcas #. Maybe i'm being paranoid, but can someone else who's sent in their acceptance form check to see if they can get in to the status check page. thanks!!

No question that NUMS is a ton better than G-town--this should be a very easy decision unless for some reason you don't want to be in Chicago--which I have to agree with kjigga, is a superior city to DC.

I, too, received my rejection letter yesterday and I really thought I was going to get in there--I thought my panel interview went well and i've gotten into more competitive schools--goes to show 'ya that this whole thing really is an insanely unpredictable crapshoot!

mrbmd...

i got in the second cycle and sent back my acceptance of the offer right away. i can still log into the status page.

dukegirlie

dukegirlie, I called the admission office and they said everyhting is ok. Pretty weird.

Has that happened to anyone else, not being able to log onto the status check page after sending in their acceptance form?

bump. I'd like to hear what every one else likes/dislikes about Northwestern. I was pretty impressed, but would like to hear other ppls opinions!

so I was rejected by Northwestern, but I was thinking that I wouldn't go anyway before. I really put a lot of emphasis on who my fellow students will be since there aren't that many, we're going to be spending a lot of time together, and you learn more from your fellow students sometimes than faculty. With that said, I was concerned with the large number of people accepted out of high school to attend u'grad and med school at Northwestern. I really would prefer a more varied class, people who really considered medicine as a career and who didn't necessarily always know they were going to be a doctor. But hey, they have the nicest hospital I've ever seen.

With respect to the waitlist: what is it like? Does Northwestern tend to take many applicants off its waitlist? Or is waitlisting just a "polite rejection"?

Anyone NOT hear from NUMS yet? I have yet to hear from them and I am getting very anxious...

urlacher...

from the way ms. lapin (??) spoke on our interview day, the waitlist is nothing like the axe. apparently, it is unranked and she attested to a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" sort of policy. she told us that if you are waitlisted, keep sending letters and updates reiterating your interest. my student host got off the waitlist and told me she sent a total of four letters to the adcom.

hope this helps!
dukegirlie

That does help, Dukegirlie. Thanks!

Anyone else have some helpful tips about NWU?

bump up the countdown!

Waitlisted by NUMS f*ckers
Those 5 lines for reasons to accept/decline are a joke...I should've sent back a letter with 5 lines asking why I should go there

Amazing how administrative incompetence can bring down a school from my #1 choice to #11 :p

Add my name to the waitlist. I am working hard on those reasons. Only nine days left!!!

dukeblue...

are you gonna pursue the waitlist??

dukegirlie

Dukegirlie,
Definitely!

check your PM's

I still haven't heard from them last MOnday. All this waiting is killing me!

hey moo:
sit tight... it's probably just the cross-border delay. i know my letter was mailed out mar 25 and i didn't get it here in vancouver until april 8. in fact, it was so delayed that i didn't received it until after the 2nd look rsvp deadline :( oh well, best of luck to you!

silver, were you accepted? (BTW I'm from vancouver too) It's wednesday, the mailman has come and gone, and still no letter.

yup i got the happy letter... still deciding whether or not i'm going to go though. anyway, i strongly suggest you call the office if your status changed awhile ago. they may not be the friendliest people around, but they might be willing to help you out.

silver, sent you a pm

bump...for everyone to take a look at what happened last year
