***Official NYU Class of 2014 Acceptance Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's nothing we have to do besides send in the 1st deposit by Jan 15 correct?

I feel like I'm going to wake up one morning and get an email saying that I didn't do something to confirm my reciprocal acceptance....😱

Also...do you know what happens from now on? Like, when do we get the package from them explaining everything in detail...?

yes, you just send the deposit in before january 15th. I honestly have no clue what happens from now on...I think we should get a package when they receive our deposit check.

Also, is anyone doing the summer research program? It looked interesting, but I don't know...has anyone heard anything good / bad things about it...

DrKumar-are you set on NYU? I wish I had your spot at Case or Pitt then!

Does anyone know why you can't use a 64 bit OS for NYU's vital book thing? Has there been any updates on the tech requirements?

Im guessing that thier software might not be compatible with 64bit OS or NYU doesn't want to support it for whatever reason.

hey all
i got in as well! just wondering, did anyone get a merit scholarship? do you get a letter in the envelope or a separate letter sent to you, etc?

Does anyone know how much NYU looks at the transcript you send them after you have already been accepted?
Say if you have a high overall GPA, but you happen to not do as well during your last semester as you did in previous semesters, but still maintain your high overall GPA.

I was wondering the same!!!

I heard scholarship letters are sent after you accept your offer.

I was given the merit scholarship . The scholarship letter is included in the initial acceptance packet.

Hope to see you all in the Fall. The class size is really not an issue. We are broken up into groups and the ratio is about 3 faculty per 20 students for anatomy and about 1-2 faculty in GDS. There are D3s and D4s that help out too so the ratio gets better. As far as the chair situation, I've asked many D3s and D4s and there is no problem (just don't procrastinate of course). You'll love it here, I do.

Got mine today. And I joined the facebook group. SO Excited!

Anyone who are willing to share your stats gratefully if you have a scholarship letter and how much they offer you? Thanks!

Yeyyyyeyyyy!!! I recently got an acceptance after third time applyingg!!!! Load off my shoulders!!!

I just got accepted last week! I'm pumped to attend!

Hey all I was just bored from studying and was looking around on the site. I went to NYU for a year, then dropped out of dental school in december and restarted again at Columbia as a D1 in august. I was in a weird position cause I was in the 7 yr dental program and NYU D1 also counted for my bachelor's for undergrad. Anyway, NYU had a really bad reputation, VERY low scores, and I figured I had worked too hard and my grades were really competitive so i decided to apply to other dental schools and got into columbia half way through NYU D1. SO my quick take:

NYU has an AWFUL reputation in the dental school world. Its seen as a school that wants to make money. They basically take everyone who applies and cranks out dentists. However, your clinical skills will be AMAZING. I think they work you really hard on your hand skills and if you don't want to specialize this is a great place to go. who cares about reputation when you get out? your hand skills will be so great and SOOO much faster than most other schools. and speed=money. HOWEVER their tuition is absolutely ridiculous. its 90k NOW...keep in mind it goes up EVERY year. It'll be 100k+ soon...

Columbia is great b/c of the med school. You take your classes w/ the med students and it works you really hard intellectually. Your grades/scores for boards will be absolutely amazing and will most likely get w/e specialty you want. But your hands skills will suck. actually you basically won't have any. lol i think that may be why everyone specializes...b/c we're so inept at general practice. oh and its cheaper.

Oh also living at NYU is way more expensive. housing is could be up to 400 MORE per month. which also adds up. but it definitely is in a better location. anyway good luck on deciding! not to sound mean but please don't ask questions, I log onto here like once every 6 months. just thought i could help a lil since I've been on both sides

Huh?!?!?!?!? Did I just read this??? "7 year dental program"???? "Dropped out mid D1 and restarted at columbia"????? What is this person talking about???

A damned fool response and a pathetic attempt at stroking her own ego is what it is. Don't mind it.😴👎

:laugh::laugh: This post is disturbing on so many levels. At this point its just pure curiousity to find out what drives this person. Is she for real???

Haha. I love how ppl rag on NYU just because they think it's cool, and we won't notice.

Like how they imply that they are somehow better by saying how they "turned down NYU" and such, bla bla bla! Whoopity freakin doo!

I think it's amusing; how insecure humans are that they need to put the damper on other's accomplishments, on a thread designed to congratulate, and elsewhere, on an internet forum.

Not that I care much. Zounds of ppl out there would rob to go to NYU dental.

Anyways, we are the few - the proud - let's not let anything bring us down!!! 😀 👍

Lilaclilys, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

haha a simple "wrong" would've done just fine.

Haha, I love this response. Nice "Billy Madison" reference there.

I read all the rumors about NYU prior to my interview...but when I went there, I decided the school was awesome and provides amazing opportunities!

So excited 😀!!!

congrats! I thought they said it would be 2 weeks until they made the decision though? anyone else interview last week that heard anything?

thanks!
well i think they said it was all dependent on when the committee meets up. So theymust've met up soon after the interviews. Also, I'm in Canada, and they said that that Canadians would recieve a UPS since regular mail takes too long.. so yours might be on its way!!!

well supposedly all acceptances were to be sent out by ups. nothing yet so far so hopefully their still sending them out.

Just out of curiosity, do all the acceptance letters say the same thing or is there a section that they actually fill in on each letter?

Got a call today!!!! I will be going to NEW YORK!
How do I join to Facebook for 2010 class ??
So excited 😍
