*****Official PASS 2026 Endodontic Residency Interviews/Information***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did the program directors you know tell you what you are missing to get into their program or did they tell you to "apply broadly"?
nope, they just smiled and said good luck i hope you achieve your goals.. at this point recommendations go really far. looking back i figure its much easier to specialize straight from dental school since you are still part of academia and can shadow the clinic to make real genuine connections/ strong ties with faculty from pg programs. ive messaged the same program directors for years about what i can do to make myself a stronger candidate and most never replied...its a pretty crazy experience but going through it helped me become more successful in my everyday practice and is giving me stronger motivation to continue working hard.

Received an invite from Penn yesterday, but it looks like they already had interviews? Is this normal or did they just not find candidates they liked to fill the spots

I heard same thing for BU. My friend got invited for 8/14 after 8/1 last day interview per BU email.

You should apply to endodontic again. If you have that much passion, at least one program director will see through you. Don't let the nonsense affect you (connection, first years) there will be always the director who has a right heart (no lame politics) and accept people with strong work ethic, moral compass. I am very lucky that my program director is not influenced by nonsense politics.

what programs prefer applicants with more years of experience vs straight from dental school?

I've been told Puerto Rico likes experience. But you have to speak Spanish to apply. Which is why I hope I can get in there- I speak Spanish, I do a ton of RCTs, I volunteer at my local Dental School, but my GPA was very weak.

From my experiences, its about holistic view of you as an applicant. The more box you check the better will get you an interview. The interview determines if you are a good fit for that program or not. Sometimes you are not a good fit for certain programs but great fits for others. Thats why I told applicants apply to 40+ schools.

Pacific, Einstein, OHSU, UW, UTHSCSA for sure prefer experience. BU, Harvard, UTHouston, UCSF, UCLA, BU, UIC, Penn among several others lean towards experience but have been known to have accepted the occasional fresh grad. TAMU, Columbia, tOSU have been known to accept/prefer new/recent grads.

How about case western??

All you see at Columbia, Harvard and Tufts is 4th year students that don’t even know how to drill a tooth. If you are not from UConn don’t apply to UConn. Bu accepts mostly international or 4th years. Case western and Ohio only people with experience. Tennessee people with experience. Stony brook, could go either way mostly bases things on GPA.

Today, I received the email that says: “selected for final review”
It has been a week that people are receiving this email. But, I was wondering if everyone has received it!!
This school is my last hope!
yeah... received that last week as well. best of luck!

Hello
I am an internationally trained Endodontist with 3 years of experience in my home country. I am looking to apply for Endodontic residency in USA. Which colleges accept international dentists?
Is there anything an international dentist can do to strengthen their application?

Prepared to be asked, why you applying if ur already an endodontist???
I know some programs actually try to avoid taking in endodontists, rather take new grads

Some might avoid but lots of programs find such experience very attractive. Most common question asked to them is "what would we be able to teach you since you're already an endodontist?"
Don't apply just to paid/free/cheap programs.

I know univ of M accepted couple prosthodontists and OHSU accepted international periodontists. It will be very challenging in my opinion…I can tell a lot of programs don’t care much about experience…my friend is still in school and has no root canal done yet but got accepted.

Anyone knows when case western will send invites. Is it going to be in jan like last year or October like in 2023…???!!! deadline was 8/15.
