Well team, let's see who makes it to the early admission deadline

Agreed. I'm a little glad I've been procrastinating.I think I'm going to change the sites I'm applying to now. The guaranteed interview at U of Iowa is worth applying to that site for.

Can you actually change your site? I would want to do that, didn't know about the guaranteed interview
I don't think you can once it's submitted. I've been procrastinating...

Was there anything else worth noting at the webinar? I wasn't able to make it :/

I've been creeping on this thread for like a week now and finally made an account to reply lol.
-Sophomore
-Bioengineering: PreMed
-3.5 GPA
-URM and sorta kinda disadvantaged
So I turned in the application mid December. I think my essays were great, i am confident in my experiences (i dont think im overqualified) but i have no clue what my recommendation looks like.
I submitted transcripts in December but they didn't get processed until mid January. I was under the impression that my professor sent my recommendation January 11th, because that's when he told me he completed it. Then i found out Tuesday after i called SHPEP that they never received so he had to resend it. I called SHPEP yesterday and the guy said its been received but i don't know if it'll be processed before the Feb 1st. I'm low-key HIGH-KEY pissed and frustrated with my professor. I really want this :/
I tried and it cannot be done 🙁What a bummer. I wonder if you can call and change your sites since your application isn't "complete" yet?

In regards to the plaintext thing for the essays, what exactly are we supposed to do?

I wrote mine in Microsoft Word, saved it as a plain text file, opened it in notepad and then copy & pasted the notepad version into SHPEP app. The application will just process it as a wall of text. I even tried using five spaces indent to mark my paragraphs, but when I submitted the essays, it still came out as a block of text. I assume that there is nothing else that can be done.
Hey guys, I actually called them and asked about this exact same thing. They told me that it was totally normal for it to be just one big block because of the way the text space is formatted. 🙂I second this. I tried for two hours to format the essay correctly but every time I tried, it would come out as a block of text.

Anyone on this site (other than me) apply as pre-pharmacy student? I get the impression from reading the thread that the answer is no.
Hi Everyone!!
This is my first time on this site, so if this formats a little funky, bare with me.
I need some advice ... I applying for this program as a pre dental student. (I'm applying to UCLA, UTH, and need to figure out my last choice) Originally, I had other plans for my summer (drum corps if anyone knows what that is), but unfortunately didn't make the cut this season. With that being said, I would REALLY like to get accepted into this program. With all that being said, my question .... my essays. The diversity one in writing is coming easier to me, I just need to fix it up a little and it should be pretty "okay" by the end of the day tomorrow. My personal statement I'm having a bit of trouble with, but I'm sure I'll make progress with it.
My question is do you guys think I should try to submit everything (I have technically a recommendation letter done, but haven't asked my professor to aim it as this program. Long story I will answer if you guys want to know) by the Feb 1 deadline .... or be the first to submit for the March 1 deadline? (Or April. I keep seeing both months for "regular" deadline.) please please please help me decide. I don't want everything to fill up, but I also don't want to send in things that may not be my best work.
(I have a 4.0 gpa if that says anything .... I'm Texas A&M Blinn TEAM. 4.0 at both the community college and A&M.)
Given that it takes time for them to process your letter or recommendation (and transcripts of you haven't sent them yet) you're going to be under the regular admission.
Also, during the webinar they recommended that you review each site that interests you to see what their individual preferences/desired students are. I.e., some schools (UCLA/UW etc) prefer students from community colleges, UI is seeking Native American students, etc...
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply!!! Is the regular admission march or April 1? I keep seeing different dates everywhere and am confused as to which it is. I also read that the sooner you apply the better, so if I get my application out by the first weekend of February, do you think my chances at admissionto at least one of my sites are there?
Also, the letter of recommendation.... when I fill out the application online, it has this area for the letter of Rec, but it's just this box where the professor types .... not an address to send a formal LOR. Should I ask my professor to mail it physically, scan it, or?
Thank you so much for your help!!

I believe that the "the earlier you apply the better" may only be referring to the difference between the early and regular deadline. I had thought the same, so I had all of my materials submitted in November and my completion date was Nov. 18th, but a couple weeks ago the SHPEP webiste glitched and changed it to Jan. 18th. So i emailed the UCLA site and this was their response
So technically, if I can get everything in by the 1st of February (postmarked), I'll make the early admissions deadline with the same chances as another person regardless of how early we sent the apps in?
Also.... I just submitted both my official transcripts. (I attend two institutions, a community college and a four year) there's a form that says "transcript matching form" and it says to include the form with the official transcripts ... but I already submitted mine. Is there any way I can simply email this document?
It has to be received and processed by Feb 1st a postmark means nothing for the early admissions. For regular it has to be postmarked by March 1st.
And don't worry about the form if you didn't include it originally. Just give them a call tomorrow and verify they received it.

I'm really sorry for all the questions ... you guys are the best for answering all of them. So do you think if I submit my essays, have my professor email the recommendation, and my transcripts get there within the next 2-3 days that I have a chance at making the early admissions deadline?

I believe it said somewhere it takes 10 days for Application Materials (assuming they are referring to LOR's and transcripts) to process. Hi y'all, super late ik but just submitted my essays. LOR was submitted mid-November and transcript submitted then too. Was really slow in making sure my essays were good, since I'm assuming that will be the real-deciding factor for all of our acceptances, wait list, rejections. Good luck everyone!
-bio major (pre dental)
-sophomore
-applied to UCLA, Columbia, Nebraska (really great if you really look into it)
-3.7 ish gpa

Oh! Do you think I should still call tomorrow about my transcripts or? Since I didn't attach the form they said to attach.
Applied to same locations, good luck to you! 🙂
It's March 1st, and yes the sooner the better absolutely.
As for your chances, I'm not sure... Are you URM or disadvantaged?
For my LOR my professor emailed them saying "Please see the attached letter of recommendation for___" and she attached the letter in a word doc and attached the corresponding LOR form. Email is the absolute best way to submit it.

Welp. My advisor told me she only wrote about me in the small space they give you in the LOR form. I dont think she wrote a separate letter.![]()
