The first round is done in early December and it is really selective, maybe 15 to 20 at most. So what UT does then is they give them a deadline to accept or reject their spots. Then they meet again in January and let in another 15 to 20 and then see how many people they get.
They do this every month or so through April until the class is filled. Now, remember that people will apply to multiple schools and get multiple acceptances. So people with multiple acceptances who cannot make up their minds will pay the deposit and more than one school to have more time to decide (they just figure they will forfeit the deposit to the school they dont want to go to). So even if 14 people say they accepted UT's offer, there still may be a few that decide to go elsewhere, so basically it's not over till it's over.
UT does not do a rolling application cycle, which pretty much means UT always expects there to be better applicants to keep coming as the application cycle continues. So UT will only pull the top few from each interview group. (In a rolling they would choose more applicants from each interview because the majority of people interviewed are qualified to enter dental school) It is just the preferance of the school how to do admissions.
But this style of acceptance really shows that UT weighs their decision almost entirely on sGPA because by doing this they only get the best and do not waste their acceptances on early applicants with average stats.
With a 3.6 sGPA I would say you are sitting extremely well with a January interview. Think about it, when you interview they will probably only have a small amount of Arkansas spots filled, if any. (remember, they dont care about overall GPA, only science GPA).
So yea dont stress at all about a january interview, youll be fine and for UT thats an early interview.
