•No, you can't change schools once you've already started at one! Check the AAMC traffic rules. At this point, before a school accepts someone off the waitlist, they contact the school currently holding the student and make sure classes haven't started.•••••if you are referring to http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/recommendations.htm , these 'rules' are mere recommendations and many schools choose to not abide by them. for example, I remember someone posting here that their friend got accepted to Harvard when classes/orientation started for UCSD. The friend left UCSD to go to Harvard

Labrynth, I heard directly from UCSD that once you enroll in another school, you're automatically kicked off the waitlist for UCSD. For MCW, that is the first day of orientation (I think) which would be August 12-- DOH! At least you have an extra two days of hope! That is, assuming that you guys enroll the first day of orientation as well.

By third week of June, do they mean this week or the next? I really want to know what my standing is on the waitlist! 🙁 This waiting is so agonizing!

I finally got my letter today...waitlisted here as well. 🙂

Wanted to let you all know that I turned down a spot at UCSD last week. Hopefully one of you all will get it today now that the office is open!!

actually, the office isn't open today. one of my friends went by there this afternoon, and it was still a ghost town. apparently, they will be up and running again on wednesday

Hi all,

When I talked to Linda she actually told me to call towards the end of the month to get a realistic assessment of our position on the waitlist. Keep in mind that they're just getting back to the office and there's probably a HUGE pile of mail waiting for them to sort through, so give them time to process it. They're pretty nice and they'll try as much as they can to give us info, but it's probably best to call them next week. I'm anxiously awaiting (good) news too.

good luck!

I thought they were going to mail that info to us.

anyone still waiting for a letter from UCSD?

VitaminX: we don't need to call them. I was just responding to people that are planning to call admissions. also, Linda (Whitson) insists that the waitlist is unranked, so i don't even know that they'll give us information on where we are ranked. i think the info will mostly be on what our chances are given the number of people that have withdrawn from UCSD.

any news out of the office yet this week? i'm assuming that they are back now.

I got a phone call today! I got in! I'm SO happy and excited!!

It's good to hear that the waitlist is moving again! Thanks in advance and congrats again!

-Congrats!

Thanks you guys! It was Linda who called me directly, and she asked if I was still interested. And then I realized she wasn't calling to clarify something on my file and was offering me a spot, and I accepted! She said a formal letter and other info would be sent out soon. Unfortuntely, I didn't find out about other admissions stuff (SORRY GUYS! I know how painful it is to wait!) but I interviewed in Dec, got acceptable-pooled in January, and then got the waitlist letter when everyone else did. So there's definitely movement and definitely hope, because before today I thought there wasn't! I also sent them a letter of intent and an additional letter of rec while I was in the acceptable pool, so I think that may have helped, but who knows! Hope this helped!

congrats aesculapian and hellojed! 🙂

now, if only ssd would get in too!

congrats hellojed!!!! it sure is nice to hear that movement is still occurring...

i called the admissions office yesterday. they are busy processing all the waitlist cards. i specifically asked if there was a ranking system. while technically the waitlist is not ranked (yet), the acceptable pool was. depending on who turns in the waitlist cards, the ranking of the waitlist will follow suit with the ranking of the acceptable pool. i asked if there was any point in updating my file at this point, and was told that the answer is no. there is a specific order that we are already in. we will basically remain in that same order as people are pulled from the waitlist. supposedly by next week, linda can give you an "idea" of what your chances might be.

good luck everyone. keep your fingers crossed.

City Ivy,

Unfortunately I have not gotten in to UCSD off the waitlist, I was merely quoting what hellojed had said two posts above me. In any case, I wish us all luck with their waitlist. 😎

congrats hellojed!!! I'm so excited!!!

Now you get NICE LONG SUMMER before school starts. . . aaaah, the envy.

...bringing it up! 😀

It seems that she didn't want to give me any info. those of you who call, please let us know what happens as we often get mixed results. Best of luck to all, especially to those still waiting for an acceptance!

To all UCSD acceptees: were you accepted to any other UC????
My observation is that very very few people get accepted to only one UC. So, on the other side, if you don't receive love from one UC, it's very likely that you don't have it from any UC. (I'm afraid that I belong to this category. )

I say that maybe we should try to be optimistic! UCSD was the only UC to send me a secondary AND give me an interview . . . no love from the other UC's at all. But i'm still hanging in there! It is cruel, though, I have to admit.

hellojed- CONGRATS!!! 😛

Regarding California- I changed the name of this thread at his/her request several weeks ago. California was very active on this thread then. Anybody know if he/she got in?

UC-Lover,
I don't know if that's a fair statement. I think the majority of those accepted in CA only have one UC acceptance. (they're so damn hard to get into) Besides, it only takes one to stay in CA. Keep your heads up!!

Hey all,

I was wondering if there was any particular order people are being pulled from the waitlist? I too called Linda on Friday and she insisted that the list is unranked, but I wonder if it makes any difference as to when one interviewed, then placed on acceptable pool? Could those who have been pulled off waitlist kindly post when they interviewed and got a-pooled?

Has anyone figured out why UC's are so hard to get into? My guess is that the UC's appear to be hard because their selection process is so arbitrary and random. There are people with amazing stats who didn't get interviews this cycle and there are those with average stats who got interviews left and right (with acceptances). Just a guess.

From Gower: •••quote:•••Let UCSD know you want to remain on the list, which is UNRANKED. Call Ms Linda Whitson, Director of Admissions (858/534-3880) for chances of acceptance. Greatest movement: mid-July. on average, 40 might be accepted after June 15.
••••It's after June 15. Everybody on your toes! 🙂

It's after June 15. Everybody on your toes!

The gauntlet's been throw down. Let's play! 🙂

Has anyone received info regarding their place on the waitlist. I was told by the admission's office that they weren't giving them out.

I think the waitlist is ranked now. It was unranked because they were still waiting for responses. Now that all the responses are in, the waitlist should be sorted and ranked. If anyone can confirm or refute this, that would be great. thanks

hi everyone
i spoke to linda whitson earlier today and here's a brief summary:

she said she was unable to provide any info on my likelihood of acceptance because

1) the yes and no waitlist cards have no been completely sorted

2)there has been little movement on the waitist recently, although there was a lot of movement around may 15th. she isn't sure what the future will hold in terms of withdrawals, so she recommended calling back in mid-july...sigh

thank you sjordan. I will call UCSD in July then. By that time the cards should be sorted and they will be able to tell us where we stand if they be so kind 🙂

Here's a quote from the official waitlist movement thread
•••quote:••• UCSD: 4/16, 4/18, 5/20, 5/22 (2), 5/23, 6/13
••••I assume 4 people from SDN pulled right after 5/15 would mean quite a significant waitlist movement

Guess no new news is good news.
Still waiting for that call/e-mail from Resnick. I talked to Linda earlier and she didn't have any information for me, other than that the witlist is unranked and that they are still sorting through all the postcards in order to figure out how large the list will be. I asked her about the process of pulling people off the list, given that I interviewed later than most and have probably waited less than others. Her answer was chillingly similar to something that Dr. Resnick said during my interview about the possibility that my group was interviewing for a-pool; "outstanding candidates will be accepted no matter when they interviewed". I'm feeling pretty low, obviously I wasn't outstanding enough in late April to get an outright acceptance, I'm doubting my status in that regard has changed.

Good luck everyone 🙂 !

hey guys, just bumping this thread up. I also interviewed late but am seriously hoping that miraculously I will be at the top of the waiting list, haha! Since they do it by points I would think that they could sort us easily. Anyhow, I'm helpless now. At least they told us not to waste our time writing letters-that's better than some schools who act like they care but still don't respond!!

Just want to let you guys know that there is movement in the a-pool.

This past Monday I got a call from Linda, the Admission's Director, about an opening. I was rather surprised since I haven't heard from them in ages. I was in the a-pool since late December. But yesterday I declined the acceptance offer.

I think there will be others like me who decline for personal and other reasons, so the waitlist should be moving. Don't give up hope!!

trip, thanks for the heads up!

BuMp!

Has anyone heard anything lately???

I talked to Yvonne today and she told me that they are not revealing the "ranking" info to students. Anways, calling was pretty pointless, as I had expected.

so why would calling mid July (as suggested by UCSD) do any good?

Bumping up and reviving hopes!!! 😀

it's nearing the end of June. Weren't we told that to wait for news till July?

I'm still confused in how the few got accepted in June if the waitlist was still be sorted. I guess they were high on the list when the waitlist request were sent.

bumping from page 4

yo every1 still waiting -- hang tough! goodluck

is there a thread for people set on UCSD? couldn't find one. like where are you guys going to be living? etc

anyways, I got some great news recently! UCSD just offered me an unbelievable scholarship/grant package that will cover about between 1/2 and 2/3 of total costs. I'm so happy it hurts 😀 the rest is made up of fantastic loans that i don't have to pay back until after residency/med school. heheeeee. neat. all this after I went to berkeley undergrad for free. I know where my donation money is going when I'm old... 😀 😀

now I just got to figure out where to live. on campus or off? Have you guys picked out a place yet?

you already received your FA packet? if so, when did you receive it b/c i am still waiting for mine.

Yea Matthew...when did you get your packet? I emailed them a couple days ago and was told it wouldn't be out until the beginning of August.

hey,

The director of financial aid called me this morning with the scholarship -- she was nice enough to tell me the rest of my package as well. The exact amounts aren't finalized but she gave me a ballpark figure.

Yeah, she said they'd be ready @ august. anyway, have you guys started to look for housing? I did a little bit of research and Del Mar, Clairmont, and Pacific Beach sound promising. Manageable rents and not too far.

Just wanted to let all know that the waitlist has started to move again... Just got the call from Linda this morning!!! Wahoo!!!
Tough decision ahead of me though.... 😕 😕
