Hey everyone! I got called off the waitlist yesterday. Declined for Mizzou. Hope it opens up a spot for someone here 🙂
 
Just got my call I'm officially a member of the class of 2017!!!! Mailing my forms tomorrow see you all in a couple of months 🙂 🙂 !!!!!

I'd love to go trail riding! It would probably be best if I had Ace laced cookies for him, but it may be more interesting without them:corny:
 
Weeelll funny you should mention trail riding. I happen to have 40 head of Percheron draft horses, two off the track Thoroughbred, and 1 Percheron x Missouri Fox Trotter cross. We drive an 8 horse hitch, but when I have the time I love to trail ride. I currently ride my Percheron and am working up the courage to start my Thoroughbred he is newly off the track and has a lot of energy LOL so yeah you won't have a lot of trouble convincing me to go riding. Now to convince mom and dad to let me bring a horse to school.....

I was called late afternoon around 3ish. Hope that helped and good luck it's only day 3 and waitlisters can be called up to class start in August!!! 🙂
 
Hi new students, and congrats to those who have gotten called off the waitlist!! I'm a current first year (oh god so close to done with first year). Feel free to ask me questions, but I'm not on here much and PMs are better way to get in touch. Looks like we have a lot of horse folks coming in! If anyone is planning on bringing a horse I am happy to talk about boarding options too - cowgirl helped me out a ton last year when I came out here with my Big Dumb TB. Abner, bring your TB, I'll ride him! 😉
 
This makes me sad that no one else has gotten off the waitlist on here 🙁

On a happier note I can't wait to go out and ride my horsie sun-tues when I am off and the weather will actually be decent!!

There is possibly still hope... Seems like the applicants were really strong this year.

:xf: on the nice weather! I am finally free of genetics as I took my last exam and don't have to work the clinic this weekend myself! Gonna enjoy doing a bunch of nothing. The lady that lives next to my parents has about 10 eight to ten month old colts and fillies that love to play with my dogs. Thinking I will have a day of drinking alcoholic beverages, with a couple hours spent in the hot tub and the rest chasing and playing with the dogs and horses. 😀

Oh yeah, Sunday through Tuesday. That's when we have finals. Pbbbt.

Well HRL,

I officially have a place for you to crash if needed. I found a nice 2 &1 with a large backyard all to myself over by the IGA and hospital. Walking to school is about 30 and biking 10-15. The neighborhood is super quiet. Glad to have one more thing checked off! 🙂

Aww yay! So exciting as it gets closer to august!! Training my replacement at work has been bitter sweet, but at least we get along really well.

The news coverage is heartbreaking 🙁 my mom asked me if I knew anyone in OK and the only people that came to mind were SDNers lol just wanted to let y'all know that your in my thoughts and prayers!!

Yeah, I didn't even know about it until I got home from work. Another tornado started over my brother's house north of tulsa which is about 2 miles from my parents house. The only coverage they are showing is moore though.
 
Got my packet today!! Yay! Who wants to be my buddy?!
 
Most of us are too old for that - WEN is probably the only second year now. I did the pairing for the buddy stuff last year. It was fun but actually pretty hard... trying to find things that people had in common!
 
Yep, I could see pairing people as being a difficult jorb. I probably should have gotten my packet yesterday, but my mail goes to my landlords house then she puts it in my mailbox and she's gone this week. 🙁

I only have 7 more weeks at my work, then I'll be moving into my house! YAY!

I am sooo counting down the days until Aug1st, my LAST day at work. At least we had a cool case to make today's 14 hour shift worth it. 2 weeks ago animal swallowed a bottle cap and today incision began to herniate, took x-rays and an intussusception. Hopefully the cutey makes it thru the night.
 
We had our electricity knocked out Tuesday from a storm, so we were doing everything in the front office where there was light and looking at routine stuff in the lobby. Always makes for an adventure trying to handle an aggressive husky/st bernard mix on the ground where he's got room to move. I am pleased to announce I didn't loose any body parts. :laugh:
 
Got my packet today. Very glad I got my rabies shots free when I had Kaiser at my old job. I still have to figure out who I'm going with on insurance. I thought AVMA wasn't doing theirs anymore, but it was included as a possibility. 😕

That is what I thought about AVMA, too, but I went on their website and I think they are going thru new york life or something. I think I'm just going to go thru OSU's since it is only 1400 a year versus my husbands which is 250 a month! Not sure if OSU's insurance will help with rabies vacs or not, but def not looking forward to paying for that!!

Current students, would you recommend getting the shots during summer or right after school starts?

AVMA is ending Jan 1 2014 according to the notification I got a few months ago. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to be doing after that. :-/ They might be switching to NY Life, honestly I just haven't looked into it yet

Rabies, you are probably fine either way. If you are going through the school they will give you a time to do it after school starts. I don't know details since I was vaccinated way before school started for work. If your insurance will cover it, might be easier to get it out of the way before classes start.

One last question. Thinking about getting a tablet. Debating between the ipad and samsung note 10.1. I have to write notes by hand to be able to process it better and really not looking forward to tons of paper to carry around. I wrote with the S note today and liked it, but I couldn't get an employee's attention at best buy to try out writing w/ a stylus on the Ipad. Any recommendations??

This is a much debated topic and really just depends on the user. Do you like Mac or PC? The supplies for vet school thread is full of nuggets.

I wonder if y'all could tell me how the white coat sizes run? Was thinking medium since I'm tall but skinny. Don't care to have my arms poke threw a small.

If you can find the time, head to the Uniform Stop in Stillwater. She'll find you the best fit and get it all set up for your white coat ceremony 🙂 You can also go there after you send in your form - she is able to change it if you decide you like a different size

Do you like writing with the stylus on iPads or similar? Make sure you try that out and see first. I hate it, but that's me.

👍 I was wondering the same thing. We are switching to scrubs at work and are getting them from the uniform stop so I need to go by there anyway.

Tried on white coats the other day and OSU requires the long ones. I hate being short because they are all below my knees 🙁
You'll be fine though Lupin!

I suppose long coats are better. I always have issues with dogs putting their feet right in my scrub pockets. Never fails.
 
OK, so they have me in the system and everything looks like I am actually considered a vet student. I will still hold my breath until I make it to orientation week and they don't look at me and ask what the hell I think I am doing there. 😀

I still wonder if they made a mistake somewhere and they are going to eventually figure it out. Or that I somehow flunked out three years ago and no one's noticed that I'm still around but they won't call my name at graduation. :laugh:
 
Are you guys members of your class facebook page? There is an equine resident that is wanting to rent her house out when she finishes her residency in a couple weeks. She would like to post about it on your class page.
