Congrats!

als12179 said:So I was wondering if anyone knows how many of the 250 being interviewed get acceptances normally?
DMBFan61 said:i was wondering this also. also, how long after your interview do you hear about acceptances?
ad_sharp said:The class size is always 150. However, the shift is different every year from the waitlist.
Amxcvbcv said:It's incredibly humbling to think that last year I was outright rejected after the interview - not waitlisted.
That's gotta be a pretty exclusive minority, considering the statistics. 😛

See you all there![]()
Abe said:white not winning is rediculous, the heisman is crap now, posted better numbers than leinheart! And they both have equal talent around them, now you tell me how leinheart was better.
Peterson isnt the best running back, so i dont know how he got that many votes I would say benson is. That guy had to take on 8 man fronts the whole game because their passing sucked.
All I know is cal got screwed, and i wish utah would have played a decent team so they can get their asses handed to them and end this non bcs conference fiasco.
Lucky you pbehzad! Should be a good one. 24-14 OU!
500 posts! damn i talk too much =D
Abe said:im sure your pinching yourself during your test blocks 😀.
DMBFan61 said:I heard that only 55 or so interviewed in dec...
pbehzad said:That seems kind of low, but you may be right. I had an interview on the 3rd day (Dec. 2), and there were 27 total candidates interviewing. So if the 1st and 2nd day also had about the same number of candidates as the 3rd day (which I'm thinking they do) , you would have 3 X 27=81. So my guess would be that about ~80 students interviewed between Nov. 30-Dec. 2nd.
Hope that helps and good luck!
pbehzad said:Got the thick envelope today 😀. Man, I'm so excited for next year. To celebrate, I have to write a 10 page paper tonight. BOOMER SOONER!!!
Dr Turninkoff said:congrats. i should find out tomorrow. mail takes an extra day to get down to miami. did your envelope contain any scholarship/financial info?

oudoc08 said:Congrats! Here's a couple of free tips.
1. Don't buy any books before school starts. The only books that are recommended is Chungs anatomy, Netters, and maybe the embryo book, and you can buy them at the bookstore after class starts. Anything else is a waste, because the syllabi are so complete. (Don't buy the ******ed psych book, I'd sell you mine, but I'd feel like an ass doing it)
2. Don't join AMSA just to get a "free" Netters (membership is same pricing as buying the book, about $75) unless you agree with their social liberal causes (socialized medicine, pro-abortion, pro-handgun ownership abolishment, etc.)
They're so liberal that they had to disband from the AMA a long time ago, but they are NOT upfront about their agenda, and will sucker you into thinking you need to be a part of their organization. They do this by sending out mailings prior to school, so that by the time you find out what they stand for, it's too late.
Any other ideas, Gil or Adam, for the incoming people?
pbehzad said:yea they gave me $10,000 for the 1st year and said that we could apply for financial aid scholarships in march.
Abe said:is 10,000 standard?? is that scholarship or loans damn! and congrats =)
ad_sharp said:The 3K or so a semester is the more standard amount, I think.
pbehzad said:Is the 3,000/semester after you fill out the fafsa and the financial aid scholarship form or is that strictly merit based (did it come with the accceptance letter)? the one they offered me had nothing do with financial aid, and im wondering if i'd still be eligible for the 3000/semester scholarship cause thats a better scholarship in the end. when did you find out that you would receive the scholarship?
thanks.
Dr Turninkoff said:Although I don't agree at all with most of the conservative agenda, I can see the other side of the issue on things like socialized medicine and abortion, but how can educated students of science, especially medicine, be pro-handgun? There is no good that comes from these weapons. They aren't used for hunting, and statistics show that they nearly always kill the wrong people. And regarding the constitutional right to bear arms, the same argument supporting handguns can be applied to bazookas, landmines, and heavy machine guns. As a future doctor, do you think that everyone has a right to these "tools of protection" also? I really didn't want to get into an SDN argument, but with all of the liberal agenda bashing, I thought I'd at least attempt to represent the voice of reason.
oudoc08 said:The question isn't whether you agree or disagree with the notion of private ownership of handguns, it's that a medical student organization which claims to represent all medical students, is taking political and social stances which it has no business taking. Besides gun control, AMSA holds "official" stances on education, social security, the environment, medical malpractice, foreign policy, international alliances, gay marriage and the death penalty. They even have a stance on preemptive strikes.
Again, they do not represent a majority of medical students, in fact, they are so far left that I'd venture to say they don't represent more than a small minority. Their vocal agenda is anti-republican, anti-conservative, and they basically set their policies in opposition to the Bush administration.
Given the fact that the majority of the country voted for Bush, and the fact that physicians have a heavy conservative tilt, I'm willing to go out on a limb, and say that AMSA doesn't represent the majority of us.
So, again, if someone wants to join AMSA, that's fine. But know what you're getting into, and what you're membership dollars are going to support. My gripe with them, is that they are not forthcoming about their agenda prior to getting your dollars. And, because they "give" you a Netters, you have no recourse for getting your money back.
(BTW, if you compare violent crime rates per capita in the US, with countries who ban private ownership of handguns, you'll see exactly what their purpose is. Deterrence works. Whose house do you think the burglar would rather break into late at night? The guy with the NRA sticker on his window, or the guy with the "anti-gun" bumper sticker on his car?"
Violent crime rates in Oklahoma dropped drastically after the passage of the concealed carry law. How many people have been shot by those indivduals legally carrying concealed weapons? Very few if any, substantiating the deterrence principle.
Anyway, not trying to start arguments, just want everyone to make sure they know what they're buying. If you like the product, fine. If not, fine.
Dr Turninkoff said:I'm not arguing over AMSA's "marketing strategies". However, I do feel that it is legitimate that a medical association takes a stance against handguns, just as they should against cigarettes, fast food, and all of the other problems that plague our health care system. Anyway, I don't think that either of us wants to get into a message board argument over this, because we each obviously have our own opinions. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in earlier because everything I hear on this thread is anti-AMSA and I'm kind of sick of it. If people want to know what AMSA is about, they can go read the webpage.
I've known three people in my life that have had their houses burglarized. In each ease, the criminals stole handguns and hunting rifles. I'm sure thieves would love to see an NRA sticker on a possible target house. They would just try to hit them when they aren't home, then peddle the guns on the street.
Also, would you mind telling me where your sources are on the post-concealed weapons law violent crime statistics? I wouldn't mind having a gander myself.
oudoc08 said:They are even against malpractice caps for God's sake. How, exactly is that pro-physician?
overrated said:It seems a little old fashioned, but is what I'm hearing about a strictly formulaic cutoff for interviews actually the case here? I mean, I attend a prestigious university and have a 3.5 GPA, but is the difficulty of my undergraduate institution not taken into account at all in the formula? I mean, I guess if I'm stuck in the third round of interviews (which would be great, don't get me wrong) at least I'll stand out, but geez, why wouldn't the admission committee actually review the applications first? I just wondered if one of you guys on the inside, or someone who is at least more familiar with the OU system could let me know if they took anything at all other than numbers into account for interview scheduling. Thanks. Also, I've found this thread extremely informative, thanks for keeping us all posted on letters going out etc.
als12179 said:I agree the interview formula thing is kind of myopic. I suppose it is fair to objectively rank everyone on numbers initially, but it would definitely make more sense to to look at more than that. Especially for us non-traditional applicants. I'm an in-stater and I got an interview offer at Pitt about 2 weeks before OU. Go figure...
I was also wondering if any of you first round studs are considering other schools? Curious as to how many might take an acceptance elsewhere at some point.
centig said:I just found out today that I was accepted!! I interviewed in the first round. It's nice to not have to worry about getting in somewhere. Now I can relax during my other interviews.
I don't know if OU is going only by the formula because I had a first day interview and my stats aren't amazing. I got a 30P on the mcat and my gpa is 3.78.
I think they may have looked at some factors besides that. In state may have mattered and maybe major as mine is electrical engineering. But there are definitely lots of 3rd round acceptances from what I was told during a presentation last year that OU did.
Good Luck everybody. I'm gonna celebrate hard core tonight 😀
