oregon state university anyone?

Applying here...I'm done with my BS but my Anatomy class does not satisfy their pre-requisite so I have to do it all over during summer. I have just heard them update on my classes that's about it. I guess they are moving on the regular applications now.

has anyone applied here? interview? accepted??? please add ur stats as well

I guess I'm applying but probably won't hear anything until a while.

Good luck you all in the upcoming weeks and months. I am a P1 @ OSU and I used this site a lot when I was trying to get int. Look at the interview reviews posted on here for OSU, that was VERY helpful and relax!

I just got interview invite for December 5. I guess it will be their first interview for regular applicants... Anyone coming too?

I just interviewed Dec 5. The campus was really really nice and green. I'm out of state btw so if some of you have travel questions I could probably give some suggestions.

I was interviewed in the first session on Dec 5. I loved the campus, the town, all the school spirit, and everyone in the pharmacy dept and in the community were really friendly. About 12 people are at each interview session which is nice because you don't feel intimidated like you would if you showed up to an interview with 104 people (like the one I had yesterday). The interviews were informal, which again, helps you relax. As for out of state vs in-state present, I believe they were about equally represented.

I got an interview for Jan. 16th at 8:30am anyone else? I am so excited since this is my first choice.😀
Does anyone know how long it takes after the interview to find out if you have been accepted or denied?

It is a little different for the first interview group since we went the Friday before finals and then the Christmas holiday. They told us they wanted to make their decisions as fast as possible with these obstacles to forming the admissions committee. But they do hope to be back to us before the new year. So I would venture to say 2-3 weeks for the Jan 16 interview...also, I have a friend attending the same interview. She will be out of state from CA

My little plug for OSU - While I go to the "other" school in the state - I have had nothing but positive interactions with the peeps down in Corvalis.

They know how to hold their beer - have a good time - and make pretty damn good pharmacists...

I will say that our football team has had a WAY BETTER RECORD over the past 17 seasons - Beav's got nothing on that.

~above~

I go to OSU undergrad, but I'll be applying for Pacific for Fall 2010, simply because I like their program better. It's too bad us Oregon pre-pharms can't apply to both schools - their A&P requirements are completely incongruous - you'd have to take two full years of a slightly different series (the 300 level "human" series for Pacific or the 400 level "advanced vertebrate" series for OSU) to be able to apply to both schools. Sorta forces you to have to decide between the schools before you get a chance to apply. I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions about the school, the campus, the city, etc. - I have a pre-pharm adviser, so I'm in the PS building all the time. 🙂

Thanks Okie for the info. I am an out of state student as well traveling from Florida so I am really excited. I have lots of family that live in Oregon and I always thought this was a great school. Good luck to your friend!🙂

Anyone have any pointers for the interview? I'm nervous and excited all at the same time.

Pointers for the interview? None really. They are really laid back about it and with me at least did a good job making it as conversational as possible. Study your personal statement and essay of why you want to go to OSU because they have it in front of them during the interview. They have a simple beginning question and for the most part from there they will choose their next questions based on what you answer. For example they asked me what I thought I believed was the biggest health problem in the united states today they segued by asking me how I believed we should solve the problem. It's about half pharm questions and half personal. But possibly the best interview experience I've had. You'll love it

I have one more question.. Is there a writting sample because I saw someone posted a thread for OSU and said there was no writting sample but I was pretty sure Oregon State had a writting sample. Maybe they were talking about Ohio State instead. Just curious
Thanks

Yes, there was a writing sample. It wasn't too difficult. It was lightly related to pharmacy. You have 30 minutes to complete it and are given like 7 pages. I don't' think I could write that many dictated pages in 30 minutes.

As for how fast you can hear back if you're accepted. One week. I just heard back from them 🙂

I'm looking into taking OSU's online Chemistry classes to fulfill my prequisites. Anyone have any opinion on this. It seems the only way to get them done quickly so I can apply in 2010.

I was also at the interview session on Dec. 5th. I already heard from them, anyone else?

how long did you all have from getting your interview invite to your actual interview date? I am trying to have an idea of how much time you get to prepare for the interview.

for the sample writing part, were you all put in the same room or in a separate room by yourself?

congrats to all that got in already.

Omigod I'm jumping here!!!! I got accepted!!!

congratz to those who got accepted!!! :hardy: 👍

I was informed about my interview via email about two weeks before, but thats just me.

Yup just like what Okie said there's an essay. While half of you guys are getting interviews the other half are writing essays. Essay may be a worry for some people, as long as you are able to deliver some ideas and arguments you should be fine. One of the reasons, they make you write (from hearsay) is to make sure you wrote your own personal statement. Hope this helps.

Congrats to everyone that was accepted! I hope that is me in a few weeks. Writing is definitely not my strong point so I am a little worried about that. Thanks for the information. I hope it will not be too hard.

I received an email invite Nov 21st. The interview was already set by them (Dec 5). Writing sample = in the same room.

Anyway, I'm going on X'mas vacation (3wks starting this Saturday). I'll be out of town. So I'm kinda worried since I really want to go mail the security deposit. Does anybody know what's inside the packet and how long we need to respond to the school asap?

I remember Angela saying we had 21 days from notification to confirm and at most she could extend it a week. If your worried about it we can trade info and I can update you on what you need to know when I get the official correspondence

I´m wondering if anyone got confirmation that OSU deposited your security check?

I just received conformation on 12/30 that my letter and deposit were received.

I got confirmation as well. Who that was accepted will be looking for housing?

Congrats everyone who got accepted! I was under the impression that OSU gave out acceptances from Jan to Mar, but I guess I was wrong.

I have an interview on Jan. 23. Does anyone who how many seats have been filled already. Just want to see my chances. Thanks

Not sure how many seats have been filled already but I wouldn't bother asking either. During our interview, they brought that up without question and informed us they would not let us know how many were accepted or rejected so that our nerves would not be unnecessarily stressed or relaxed, which makes sense. If you're horribly curious I would suggest looking at previous year's rates. I know out of state is around 15% or so for acceptance. You're also competing against early decision, the december 5 interview (12 people, 3 or 4 of which I know got in....see my comment and those after regarding that), January 16 interview, and then your interview. Hope that helps.

Also. The interview is really laid back so if you're comfortable in normal conversation, you should nail it 🙂

hi guys, I got the confirmation too. A week later I received an official transcript request to be sent to Nicole. Anybody gonna Accelerated Anatomy during summer classes at OSU?

I got the confirmation and the transcript request too... One question: If i take Biochem now, do i have to retake it in P1?

Same goes for anatomy...I believe. However, there is the option to take an advanced anatomy while there

Hey guys!
I have one more quick question. My interview is on Friday and I am getting really nervous. I know that the first interview group heard back a week later on whether they were accepted or rejected, is the next interview going to work the same way? or will they finish all Jan. interviews then makes a decision?
I really hope they make a decision within a week last the last interview!
Thanks

I was wondering for those who had their interview already, could you tell me how the essay portion was?

The question was something along the lines of publishing data. I don't want to say the whole question because I'm not sure if they reuse it and if I'm allowed to restate it. But it is one that you can logically make a position on and answer without problem. Take 5 minutes and think it through and write non-stop after that. Should be no problem

For those who have already been accepted, where did Oregon State rank among the list of schools you applied to?

I couldn't pick just one top choice. So my top three were UCSD, USC, and Oregon State. I got denied pre-interview from UCSD and still haven't heard from USC.

Congrats on getting in to one of your top choices, and thank you for your help : )

Since I only applied to two schools I guess Oregon State is my top choice, but I still am interviewing at another school on 1/24, but now I have nothing to lose since I'm in at OSU
