I think we should have an SDN only dinner the night before (Friday) and then we can invite non-SDN people on Saturday night. Or not, whatever is fine. I'll be in town so it's all good.
Yeah, I like that idea, especially since I just found out I have to go to a wedding the evening of ASD.

Kwooder - Congrats!

Elaine,
I am going to the Hillcrest picnic with all the kids, are you going to be there? maybe we could meet up there...

Kwooder,
Congrates on the baby boy. I'm glad to hear he didn't need the chest tube,, that usually adds at least a while to their stay in the NICU. How big was he?

Thanks. 8 lbs. 1 oz. 20.25 inches long.

Kwooder,
Do you need anything for the baby, after having 3 boys, I think we may have some baby stuff.... Let me know, please, just don't tell my wife you have a new baby...she gets all googly-eyed and stuff.

I think we have everything we need. Both sets of grandparents are first timers, so we're pretty much set up. Thanks though.

Can't you girls take something for that  lol......

Is it just me, or doesn't it seem really quiet lately. I know finals are coming up, plus the boards for the MSII's. Good luck to all. Happy studying.

They gave us a take-home final in Chem II (Inorganic) at TCC. I almost fell out of my chair when they announced it. My professor looked at me and said "Do you have a problem with that?". Being the nerd that I am 😱 , I replied, "How unorthodox is that?". FYI, I studied B.S. P.T. in the Philippines and the universities there make your college years a living hell. I've never heard of take home finals. I'm sure we won't get that in DO school. Anyway, he said it's pretty common to do that. Is that true?

Elaine 🙂
A take home final =o. Sometimes I wonder why I go to OSU and screw my gpa up 😀.
My freinds physics test at TCC was rediculously easy, and he got two notecards for cheat sheet, and he gave them a test worth of extra credit =/.

Kwooder, congatulations 🙂

DrMom, glad to see you're still around. How's finals week?

X-ray, are you going to the ASD on June 5? I'm planning on going again, then maybe pick-up the kids and go to the Hillcrest picnic, then go to dinner with all of you. Sounds like a plan? I don't care either way, though - whether we all go out on Friday or Saturday. Just let me know.

Elaine 🙂

Abe,

I have taken post-bacc classes at TCC (16 hrs) and engineering graduate level classes at OSU Tulsa (or whatever they call it this week) and I would say that the TCC classes were equally hard or harder. Especially difficult was Microbiology and Org I at TCC. TCC provided great prof's (3 out of 4 classes anyway) and we got no extra credit tests or likewise. Most TCC classmates were going med, dent, pharm, or vet school so many were striving for A's. The student environment was generally helpful and not gunner-ish.

I have considered the same statements when comparing my business GPA of 3.6 before changing to engineering and finishing with a 3.2.

I have not seen evidence of major / school adjustments to GPA based on difficulty, although Texas Tech stated that they do make slight adjustments based on school or major. If you don't make the first cut, I suspect no one cares whether you went to MIT or TCC since they never read the application. Such is life.

thought I would check in and say hi.... HI!

finals stink !

Hope everyone is well

DrDad

ha ha im not in school....

(yet)

X-ray, aren't you at work? I thought I saw you running into an elevator at work?

DrMom, good luck to you and your classmates on your last day of finals (ever). Now you'll only have board exams 🙁 , clinical rotations 😡 , etc to tackle. It never ends for us, suckers of punishment, does it?

Yes, I was at work last night, I take my laptop so I can cruise the internet if I get a chance.

Did somebody say wiiiiirrrrelessssss?

DrMom said:
You should really like the wireless network at OSU then 😉

Yes. Dr. Mom, my best friend, said it.

I'm so happy that floppies and wires are becoming obsolete. Heh, remember when you could put all your documents on a floppy?

Wireless sounds so sweet....

DrMom said:
Yep. I've really enjoyed it. They're in the process of making the hospital and clinics wireless, too 😀

I survived finals intact, btw. 🙂
Ooooooooh man, that'll be nice...I just wish they made Tandy laptops...

so OSU has wireless then?

how does it work(computer semi-idiot)

You have to have a wireless card (internal or external) in your laptop. The school can give you the name of the network & the password (or I could for that matter) so that you can set it up. There are a few areas where it doesn't work very well (ie:back of the library), but most of the school is well-covered. 😀

BTW congratulations on you last final

Welcome to Third Year DrMom

Welcome to Third Year DrMom
Thanks. I'm soo excited to start third year and start seeing patients. I'm a good doctor because I don't believe in hitting patients, even when I get all mad at them.

you seem like a nut (in a nice way) olanzapine

Congratulations to you also! Olanzapine!

speaking of laptops, I get a new one for my birthday in 2 weeks! maybe I can use it when I'm in town on campus----can I log onto the network if I don't have a campus email yet?

It's a Dell with Centrino Wireless Technology.

See y'all first weekend of June. Did we decide that we are meeting on Friday night?

FYI: olanzapine is graduating and starting an IM residency...he's pulling your leg 😉

OSUdoc08: yes, you should be able to log on to the wireless network, but you'll need to get info from me to set it up. Call me when you're here & I'll help you. (in fact, I'll quite likely be up at school studying for boards 🙄 )

do you recommend any specific brand DrMom... as for price and replace-ability

thx

hey, I'm in tulsa (broken arrow to be specific) any other future do's want to get together some time (june 5th is a ways off...) send me a private message, I'm bored...

For wireless card? No. Any of them should be fine. Mine goes with the wireless router I have at home and also works well at school.

let me rephrase... as for Notebook computer

DrDad,

My father works in Information Technology for a government agency and evaluates wireless technology.

The best computer for wireless networking is a Dell Notebook. More specifically with a Pentium "M" Processor. This is well known as "Centrino" technology.

There are 2 types of notebooks: Latitude & Inspiron. Latitude is for business and Inspiron is for home. I recommend Latitude, which is what I have used for years, because it seems to work better on large networks such as available at OSU & which I had at my undergrad at Baylor.

The computer I am getting for my bday next week, after extensive research, is a Dell Latitude D600. I also recommend the Dell Inspiron 600m, which is a similar notebook I currently use a Dell Latitude CPt, which I have had for 4 years or so and is now outdated.

i had my "exit interview" thing today with the new Dean. very impressed. he has a lot of great ideas, and it sounds like things will be dramatically different in as little as 5 years-- all for the better.

a few of the things in the works-- electronic evaluations, more emphasis on relevant topics during second year, remodeling dunlop, integrated medical business classes in OSU's FYGME and GME programs, and if the tobacco tax passes, $$$ out the wazoo (7mil a year) for a new school and facilities.

anyway, it was an interesting discussion. the school's in good hands, and i would have no qualms about donating as an alum.

Just go with a major brand that has decent customer service. This would include (not a thorough list here): dell, sony, toshiba, compaq...

I have found with heavy use that laptops last me 2-2 1/2 years. I tend to wear them out by then. 😀

Exit Interview? I haven't heard anything about this. All I have been told is to show up Friday am for rehearsal. What gives?

this is all good info for us to know....

i dunno-- dana called me and said that he was meeting with groups of students at 10am mon-thurs. maybe they skipped you, lol.

hope the awards banquet went well-- i have a lot of family in town and didn't want to ditch them. i *did* look through the awards brochure to see where everyone was going next year.

just out of curiousity for those of you who have already done a little time at osu-com, what is your daily schedule like (what time do you get up etc.) Just wanted to know, I'm trying to get on some kind of sleep schedule.

Isn't there a hospital there in T-Town that has nothing but DOs ?

I seem to remember seeing a list of their docs when I was there visiting a friend in the hospital and all the docs listed on the wall were DOs.

I am a member of the OSU-COM Class of 2008.

Well, You are the friendly Everyone Forum two-eyed, right-wing-conspiracy-running, dictatorial modulator emu.

This is a way old post and someone may've (new word) already asked, but if you are going to finish your BS degree in 3 more years, how are you already accepted and enrolled at OSU med school ? 😕

Don't worry, it all starts over again. I'll be the MS3 at the bottom of the food chain in the hospital 😉

Apparently only some people were asked to do exit interviews with the Dean. Maybe they only wanted to hear positive things, and not ways to improve the institution, thus I wasn't asked to participate. 😀
