OSU-COM class of 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You guys will have to come pull me out of the breakout room to say hi when you're at ASD. I'm sure I'll be there cramming (& I'm not going to be as grumpy as Idiopathic 😉)

you got it DrMom!

Want any pastries or anything?

since the year is over now, are we MSI's or what? If not, when will we be MSI's?

Dr. Mom has to be safe because she has alot of stalkers.

DrDad, count me in, plus 4 (1 adult and 3 kids). We may have to leave around 8 coz we have to go camping with friends south of Glenpool.

DrMom, how did finals go? How's it going - studying for the boards?

It's been about 10 days since i've logged on. There seems to be a lot of people I don't know, but welcome to all. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys.

Am I the only one taking a class this summer (waaah)? :scared: I have to take an Organic Chem class coz when my grades were "translated", my 5 units only amounted to 3 units. Oh well, I still would have had to take it though since 6-8 units are required. It's good coz it gave me an excuse to step down as team leader at work and go part time when summer classes start.

Hey all! I decided that this place needs some more female influence 🙂 I would have joined sooner had I know this is where all the future OSU docs were hanging out. Let me introduce myself...

My name is Tiffany and I am a 23 year old (yes...single) female from Tulsa. I did my undergrad work at Sterling College in KS and came out with a BS in Biology and a Chem Minor. I moved here from Colorado last August when I packed up my car and drove out because I knew God wanted me at OSU. I was so thrilled when I got my letter in December, and now I am especially excited after reading all of your posts. Also good to know I have several brothers in Christ. BTW - if anyone is still planning on the Honduras trip next summer I am very interested and may have some helpful contacts too.

Also wondering if anyone knows how to contact Dana about housing and if any more info is known (other than what was already posted) on the cheap, but supposedly nice apartments (mental health??)
Look forward to talking more and I will be at ASD this Saturday.

You can call the admissions office and ask to schedule an appt with Dana.

I don't think I'd call the mental health apts nice, but OSUDoc08 got the same deal at some regular apartments (Fountaincrest) on 71st St. 🙂

For reducing payments on apartments,

You first have to put in a "pre-application" with the Tulsa Housing Authority, so do that first. The forms are here: http://www.tulsahousing.org/html/links/pg.html

Then, you must find an apartment that participates in Section 8 Housing. I don't remember how I found out that my apartment participates, but if you contact the THA, I'm sure they can tell you.

I would not recommend the mental health or elderly housing or anything----the sole reason is that you can find normal apartments that have the same reduced rates, in a more desireable environment & location.

I'm signing my lease with Fountain Crest on Friday for July 16th. I will start out by paying the normal rates, and as soon as my THA paperwork goes through, I can start paying WAY less.

PM me for more info about this subject, since I have researched it thoroughly, and yay for single med students! 😀

I am just wondering when I should put in my 2 weeks notice here at the hospital, when is our actual first day? I know we will get this on Sat., but my boss keeps asking me....

Hey Elaine, are we still on for the Hillcrest employee thing with the kids on Sat. after the ASD?

Welcome to the group, Tiffany, looking forward to meeting you at ASD!

Did you not get the calendar in the mail? I recieved a letter the other day with the academic calendar.

Mandatory orientation begins August 16th.
First day of class is August 23rd.

Thanks for the welcomes and very helpful advice. Fortunately, I have a place to stay with a lady from church until I can find an affordable place of my own. I really wish that my current apartments accepted section 8 - I hate moving all over again.

xray1murphy, I work at a clinic with several residents that went to OSU and they have all recommended taking at least a week off before classes start. I plan on taking off one week before orientation to give myself the chance to relax and have my last bit of fun before classes start. I figure one week less of pay, given all the debt I will come out with anyway, doesn't really matter. I guess our "acutal first day" is the 23rd of Aug.

I'm quitting work 2 weeks before I move to Tulsa. My lease starts on July 16th, and the lastest day I would move is July 31st, so that's well over 2 weeks. I, of course, am completely unfamiliar with Tulsa and hardly know anyone there, so I have much more catching up to do than most of you natives. I'm going to miss the ambulance, but it's time to move on...

Well, I did get the agenda in the mail,,,,,yesterday afternoon, read it last night around midnight when I got home from work... I am going to head up to the school tomorrow to give them my insurance verification. That should be everything?. I think, lol. Did we decide on a place to eat this weekend?

They just emailed me and said they never got the transcripts from the little community colleges I took summer school at. Turns out I sent them to AACOMAS & not the school. They said as long as they recieve it by the second week of July, everything will be cool. Everyone make sure you have all that stuff taken care of!

hey guys 6PM at Mexicali on BRADY (DOWNTOWN)

I will give more info at ASD

Ian aka DrDad

Hey all! I just decided I should go ahead and join this forum. I've been reading your messages for a few weeks and felt the need to contribute! I'm so so so excited to start school in August. It's been an EXTREMELY long time coming! So, I'll see most of you tomorrow at the ASD and then hopefully at Mexicali later!

Welcome Liz!
I will see you all tomorrow!! Looking forward to meeting you guys 🙂

I don't know about you guys, but I had fun yesterday - at the ASD and at the Mexicali dinner. I think the staff did a great job.

I now know about 11 people out of the 88. I guess that's good.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun meeting all of you and your significant other/families.

MSII's (or soon to be MSIII's), GOOD LUCK!!! We will be praying for you and a 100% pass rate this year. 🙂

Thanks to all the MSI's (or soon to be MSII's) who helped out during ASD.

xray, what are you doing for health insurance come august? Please let me know.

See you guys later.

Patricia will still be working for the State, we use her insurance anyhow, due to it being cheaper and a little better than that of Hillcrest's.

I agree, liked the way it was a little less formal and a little more personable, I think this is one of the huge benefits for us going to OSU.

still looking for furniture (used/cheap) if anyone has some ideas, since I've got to start buying them next month so i dont have to live in my sleeping bag in an empty apartment this summer

Hey OSUDoc,
My neighbor said it is a go for the queen mattress, so just let me know when you get here and I will get it to you.

How is everyone planning on paying for the microscope we have to get? I am trying to figure it out since they tell us we have to have one by the first day of orientation and the earliest we can get our loan checks is the first day of orientation. Will the MS-II's let us get the microscope early from them and then pay when the loans come in? Just trying to figure out the finances...

When you find out who your second year mentor is, see if they have a scope to sell you. Most everyone is willing to wait to get paid until you get your loans in. If your second year doesn't have a scope to sell, ask them to send an email to their classmates saying that you need a scope and how to contact you.

next to the occassionaly funky odor from the refinery, this has got to be the most annoying thing about OSU. for the love of God, please use some funds to buy 'scopes for the students. if you figure a new 'scope being, say, 1k (which i imagine you could get a decent scope for, especially if you buy in bulk like they would) and replace said scope every 5-7 years, it would cost 200 or less per student for a scope, as opposed to the 700 or whatever they pay now.

stop the insanity!!!

Can't argue with you there, homunculus, but I don't think the Meekster is wanting to take care of all of them. Also, I'd hate to be in that last class that had to buy their own & gets stuck with them. 😱

hello all,

I'm real interested in going to OSU for DO school, but I was wondering what everyones stats were (mcat, gpa, extracurricular etc) if everyones comfortable with that. Thanks!

yes, I'd think so, we understand about the money taking sometime, it took me almost 3 weeks into school to get my money, and I can't think of anyone who wouldn't be reasonable in my class,

Is anyone a member of the American Medical Student Association? I have been a "pre-med" member since I started college. AMSA is the largest medical student organization in the U.S., and I have been contacted by AMSA to start a chapter at OSU. I understand that we already have SOMA, SNMA, and other groups, but since AMSA is the largest group with the most benefits, and it may be nice to have that group on campus.

If anyone is interested, PM me and let me know, and I'll give you more information. I'm talking with the regional AMSA director and I will be working with the chapters at TCOM & OU to start things up.

Also, check out this link:

come on people......you can't all have gone away?.....where are you DrDad? Xray? anyone? The only people that talk on here aren't even really class of '08.

Maybe you are just all on vacation while I'm stuck here working........

Hey guys,
When do we get our OSU email account, and what format is it in?

Looking forward to August!
