OSU-COM Discussion thread 2007-2008

That is quite a few people. I'm pretty much expecting to be put on the waiting list. Sarah said that they only had a few people on it, so I'm sure a lot of people from my week will get put on it.

There's a thin line between confidence and arrogance. In a way it's better to be unsure. If you are super confident and "Know" you will get in it takes away from the excitement of actually getting the call or letter as you expect it to happen.

Sorry haven't posted much. I'll be adding more after finals get done.. Going on a cruise in January... CAN"T wait!!

I TOTALLY agree with BB......I've seen ever the smartest and best-looking applicants on paper get rejected and waitlisted. One thing is certain....there is never anything FOR SURE in the medical school admissions process. Plus being humble is something I feel a future doctor must absolutely posess. I'm not jumping on you, phlame, but those kind of attitudes, the admissions people can definitely pick up on. Just be grateful for every step along the way.
Have fun on your cruise, BB!!!!! That will be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

Oh and don't automatically assume you will be waitlisted!!!! A good friend of mine interviewed last Friday and has already been called and accepted!!!! I think it took them like THREE DAYS! That's insane!

I never said i "know" i just said I have "no doubt" and thats because I've both put in the time/effort thus far and am willing to continue that through my undergrad and on into medical school. I have alot of shadowing lined up and my organic professor is a chair for INBRE and hes recommending me for that this summer so I am definitely looking forward to that. I just see everything going on now as puzzle pieces falling into place, thats all.

was in the Marines and learned that if your plan is going to good it's an ambush.

the hurdles of getting into med school are huge just beware that some people with great stats get passed over for people with good stats. just because everything is going good right now doesn't mean that next year everything will be easy in admissions. not trying to dampen anyone's hopes just stay grounded in that you're doing everything "you" can do to get in, good mcat, early app, and good l.o.r's. that's all you can control, after that it's up to the adcom committie. that's where I'm currently at waiting for a call for interview and doing everything I can on my end

glad to see you are humble. this attitude will go over like a box of rocks at your interview, have fun with that.

Trust me, I understand what you're saying but this isn't a combat situation and I don't believe there is any friendly fire going on anyways lol. Different time and different place equals different factors to be aware of. I recognize getting to this summer and next fall is going to be tough, but I've set my compass and no matter the seas, ill get there. Now once i reach that destination, I do understand its in the hands of the Adcom to admit me to port, lol (I am more of a Navy guy, and yes I know the marines are somewhat related to the Navy).

Oh well...

Are you sure it was last friday? I'm pretty sure they said that my day was the last one until January, and that was on Thursday.

Oh yeah... and does that mean that I shouldn't be expecting a call if they already called people from last weeks interviews? or do they not do them all at once?

I'm dead sure it was this friday. November 20th. I mocked interviewed him the day before and he's already in.

INBRE is awesome. I did that last summer and have no regrets!!!

Sorry..I mean November 30th. My finger slipped off the keyboard.

Got a post-interview rejection letter earlier this week 🙁 I wonder if I had a really bad interview or something (I thought it went well :/). Was kinda hoping for at least a waitlist as it was one of my favorites out-of-state.

When was your interview? I'm sure it wasn't because of a bad interview. Out-of-state is really competitive. I would never put myself through that, so kudos to you for trying. I haven't heard anything back, and from what myo said they called people to tell them they were admitted yesterday. I'm just hoping they are still calling people throughout the week.

what are your stats, jw.

GPA slightly higher than and MCAT slightly lower than median for allopathic matriculants. Decent Research, volunteer, and shadowing.

I interviewed the day before Centennial Day. I just figured since they even bothered to interview me, that they'd at least keep me on the wait pile for a while.

With OOS'ers, they seem to get real picky. Sorry 'bout the rejection but you do have North Texas for DO's and some real good MD schools in Texas.

Sookie don't worry about it....they won't necessarily call everyone on the same day. Just relax. OH, my friend Stephanie interviewed on the same day as you. I'm trying to convince her not to worry, too! Yall are both gonna be fine!

Awww, stephanie was so nice! I was wondering if you knew her. I hope she gets in even if I don't. I bet she will since she is a nurse and everything. So she hasn't heard anything back either?

Indeed the marines are a department of the Navy, they are the Mens department.

It looks like you're doing fine, I'm just trying to warn you not to get to discouraged if things don't go as planned.

No, she hasn't heard anything yet either. I'm kinda wondering whether or not he was a special case because he has an AMAZING MCAT score and GPA and he hit the jackpot in his interview when he discovered the doctor he had been shadowing all this time was classmates with his interviewer. My gut tells me that they wanted him REALLY bad and wanted to make sure he didn't get other offers because he applied to a few other schools, too. So it makes sense why they would call him three days later. It has not even been a week for you guys yet!! Just relax!!! They have up to 14 days to let you know something. Just keep your phone handy!!! 🙂 Yeah, Stephanie is really cool and she wants it really bad. Just like we all do, of course, but it's still really inspiring to me to see that passion and devotion in other students. Makes me feel good about the profession I am entering.

Ill give it to you that the Marines are persistant; The damn recruiter calls me monthly despite my efforts to convince him i have no interest. But... I wont get into the whole navy marines air foirce balderdash lol.

I look forward to hearing more acceptances and gl to all.

Ya I have to admit that when they told me I was going to be considered OOS I was devastated. I guess they decided that I had enough considerable ties and enough experience to kill a rhino... 😉

I have enough experience to kill a rhino, oops sorry was thinking about actually killing a rhino. You weren't being serious oh well back to work

Yep thats the problem with the marines: don't know the difference between actual and hypothetical.

I've seen some funy stuff in Marine Corps Infantry, most stories would probably get me banned from here for life.

I've heard quite a few stories from many branches, My grand-dad is ex air-force Colonel and he had (passed away) a slew of stories, my other grand-dad was a Navy Commander and then I have three friends serving, two in the Army and one in the Marines all PFC's.

I called up to OSU today, and they said they have already called everyone who was accepted from last weeks interviews. Now I'm just waiting to see if the letter I get is re-application or wait list. In the mean time, I'm planning when I'm going to start this whole process over again! YIPPY!

Was OSU the only school you applied to? What are your stats and ec's?

Well I sent in primary applications to other schools, but I didn't see why a more competitive out of state school would accept me if an instate wouldn't. My MCAT is average for osteopathic. My GPA is a little above average. I've volunteered with several DOs, volunteered with a hospice, volunteered in a free clinic, and I'm currently doing biochemical research.

Gl wit your endevours, any clue on any weaknesses or faults that the ADCOM may have caught on to reject you?

I was wait listed. At least the hope is still alive!

Well congrats on a waitlist! Since its early to midway in, id say your chances of being pulled are pretty good.

I just got a snail postcard from OSU-COM two days ago saying my secondary is complete. What is the average wait time to hear a response? Anybody got experiences?

You'll probably hear mid January to beginning of February and I say this because alot of the December interviews have been pushed back to January but usually you hear pretty quickly.

I had to wait two and half weeks. The december interviews were cancelled like phlame said, but they are starting again in mid january. Someone said they will start calling people mid december for those interviews. They have only done about half the interviews though, so if you don't hear in december I wouldnt worry.

Awesome, thanks for the responses.

Found out through my advisor there are only 26 open seats left...

I'd say around Marchish-Aprilish there will be alot of slots either confirming or opening when interviews conclude.

Oh good, Dr.Mom! You've got the emu avatar back! He's so cute! And he's all ready for Christmas, too! 😀

26 spots that sucks, anyone hear how many they are going to accept? I've heard more than 88 but haven't heard an exact number.

I'm pretty sure they are accepted like 100 or so this year.....yeah, don't worry there will DEFNITELY be overturn!!! Just be patient!

You mean turnover? lol...

Oh btw, congrats on the engagement myo! Seems like the laws of physics have shifted and you are the center of the universe as everything goes right for you! (not a bad thing).

dude, thanks!! I know what you mean!! I am waiting for a bus to hit me or something because things are going too good!! I've never been happier....first I get into medical school and then my high school sweetheart that I have been with for over four years proposes!!! It couldn't be better!! What is so great is that he has been there since high school....he dropped EVERYTHING to come to Edmond with me and has been so supportive this entire time. He's been there since becoming a doctor was a distant dream for me. That is a really good feeling. But anyway...thanks for the congratulations!!!!!

lol luckly I have a few years for that bus to arrive.
