Does anyone know if OU gives priority to Ohio residents? If so, what about the percents? Has anyone heard from them yet? My primary has yet to be sent, due to transcript hold ups :(
Thanks ahead for the info!!
Have a great day and best of luck to all!

OU, probably out of all of the D.O. schools, shows the most preference for instate students. I cant give percents but, in the current third year class i would guess it to be around 85/104 students are ohio residents. Best of luck to you!!

Also note if you're a non-resident, OUCOM requires a 4 or 5 year contract that you'll come back and practice in that state after your residency. And it does specifically state that no credit is applied for doing a residency in the state of Ohio.

Just to clarify, no credit is applied if you do a residency in Ohio at a hospital that's not part of the CORE. You do get credit for completing a CORE residency (if you complete a primary care residency, every year of residency counts 1.5 years towards your contract).

A direct quote from the contract to be signed (actually, it's the first bulleted paragraph, bold emphasis added):
The applicant agrees that in consideration of admission to the College of Osteopathic Medicine and for the medical education to
be provided by the College of Osteopathic Medicine he/she will become licensed to and will practice medicine in the State of Ohio
full-time for a period of at least five (5) years from the date of completion of both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical
education, with the date of completion to be determined by the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The applicant understands that
internship, residency and postgraduate fellowships are included within postgraduate medical education and applicant understands
that he/she will receive no credit toward the five (5) year requirement to practice medicine in the State of Ohio while applicant is
pursuing said postgraduate medical education.
If they're telling you something different, fine. But legally according to the contract you sign, residency is specifically not included.

Yes, that's the contract you sign. The school also provides provisions for receiving credit if a CORE residency is completed, or if you want to buy out of the contract, or a combination thereof.

Speak to Student Affairs at OU-COM if you have questions. Don't let the contract scare you, it's not as bad as you think. Refer to the link below for the info:
