I hope they haven't reviewed all the applications yet. If they use whether or not you have a degree as a screening criteria that means I definitely got passed up!!! shucks...I guess we'll see what happens...

I dont think a 4yr degree is the only screening criteria - just one of them. I think you are good Afn - they say patience is a virtue... 🙄 Oh well - I have a microbio, stats, and latin test within 24 hours of each other; thus I have plenty of things to occupy my mind right now. Take care everyone

I like it when you post. It is always positive and very supportive. Most importantly I like how the post is always updated! It gives me something new to read about instead of clicking the refresh button 50 times to see if anyone else has posted. I know that sounds stupid but I am just going crazy waiting for a response as well!

... and thank you 👍

Hey everyone I am applying for Fall 2007 in the 2nd cycle and I was wondering if we calculate every math, bio, chem, physics course we have ever taken into the science gpa or just the ones that Pacific requires for admission into pharm program? Thanks

Include all science and math courses that you took even though they are not part of the requirements.

aboveliq, I'm still crossing my fingers. I have done about 6 applications. My seventh and eighth application will be done this week. Then I will work on my next ones after that.

That's pretty awesome... I stopped at 5 - Supplementals were driving me crazy. As to Pacific - it is really early, hopefully we will get the nod in round 2 or 3 (sooner the better). Im pulling for us all...

Hello,

When I did my application, I included all math, bio, chem, and physics courses for the science gpa. When I filled out the prerequisite worksheet, I only included the prereqs.. not any extras.

8 applications done by this week? Wow. You must be good at writing essays. It took me 3 weeks to complete Pacific's essays. I put a lot of time into them. I do know that schools take into consideration how well your essay's are put together. My brain would be fried if I had 8 apps done by now! Hats off to you! Good luck.

No, not all 8 in this week. I started way back at the beginning of July. I learn that LoR is a bi**h to get. Essay is not the hardest.

Maybe I need to write different essays for each school. I tend to interchange them to answer different questions. Of course, there are a lot of varieties from different schools. I ask an English tutor to check if they are good enough.

I'm sure my last 45 sh, and pre-req GPA are very competitive, and my overall GPA is competitive. Course load is always heavy.

More than 100 hours of pharmacy volunteers. Some other school activities, scholarships and community services, too.

I'm thinking my essay is dragging me down.

Random info to bump the thread:

I heard through the grapevine (at my volunteer position last night) that some P1s are really struggling with the curriculum.

I was just thinking about the curriculum at Pacific. I actually think the way the curriculum is set up at Pacific will work well with the way I like to learn. However, I wonder what some of the P1's are struggling with... the material...or how the block system works? I think it's natural that pharmacy students have struggles through school from time to time, because there is a lot of information to learn. I just hope that it's going to be possible to get through the program without failing or burning out. If you hear any other info. about how the students are doing, I would love to have the insight. I have a friend who is now a Pharmacist who used to think she would never make it through pharmacy school.... but she did and is doing great. I remember her saying that going to pharmacy school was the hardest thing she ever did, and her and her classmates all relied on eachother for support and encouragement. I think Pacific will do everything they can to help the student get through the tough times.

On a side note, where are you guys staying for your interview? I'm looking at hotel prices and all the hotels in Hillsboro seem....well, dead. Like it's a shack that charges $60/night. I'd much rather spend $80-100/night for something nicer in Portland.

However, is Portland too far away? I'd hate to hit traffic or something and be late for the interview day. I think Portland is ~20 miles away. Hopefully it's a smooth and quiet 20 miles. Anyone with suggestions?

I am not staying at a hotel....I am flying to Sacremento in the morning, have my interview during the day, and then leave that evening.

Is anyone else going Nov 3 for their interview?

🙂 I think you are confused... Did you apply to Pacific U or University of the Pacific? If your not flying to Portland Oregon, I dont think you are interviewing w/ Pacific U. Check the UOP thread...

Congrats on your interview though 👍

Well I live in Portland, so I'm definitely driving. There's not much in Hillsboro - it is pretty much dead! I'm not sure of exact mileage, but in the AM driving out, you'll be going against traffic, so won't have to worry as much. Similarly, on the evening coming back into Portland, the traffic won't be nearly as bad as the other side of the freeway. Also, now that I think of it...the interview is on a Saturday!!! There shouldn't be traffic at all!

Another thing to consider to save $$ and stress is not renting a car at all. Pacific's campus is literally right next to a MAX stop (lightrail). If you stayed near downtown Portland (or even somewhere in Beaverton with access to the MAX), it is so easy to get on the MAX and take it to Pacific. For Pacific's Open House, I took the MAX from downtown to the campus in about 40 mins. Here's the website (www.trimet.org). You can look up routes, and your destination is "Tuality Hospital/SE 8th Ave MAX Station" which is a 20 second walk from Pacific.

If I were you, I'd find a nicer place in Beaverton (it's between Hills and Port) or Portland. As far is rental car vs. MAX, its up to you. I know it can be stressful taking public transport in a foreign city.

Hi eddie. I lived in the Beaverton/Hillsboro for 3 years, and there is some nice and convenient places to stay in the area and closer to Pacific than if you were to stay right in Portland. I know there is a Hilton and a couple of other nice hotels all in the same vicinity, and not too far from Pacific. I don't know if you already booked a place, but if you want I can pm you some info. on places in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. If you have never been to Portland, it may get stressful trying to find your way around. On the other hand, like Pharm mentioned, you could take the MAX or a Trimet bus, but that could get stressful too. I always like to have my own transportation... but that's just me. Have any of you received the interview info. packet in the mail yet?

I got my invitation for interview! YES!!!!

I got my invitation for interview! YES!!!!

Congrats...👍 nothing feels better than getting a call huh? If you dont mind me asking, when did you get that call? I assumed it had to have been friday???

I got my invitation for interview! YES!!!!

What day is your interview Sego? Oct 28th with the rest of us? If so, that means they're still calling people back for the first interview group, which is good news. Let's try and form a group with SDN name tags! =)

Received an e-mail on Saturday, no phone call. And yes, Oct. 28. I suppose Vanessa works from home or something. I checked sender e-mail address, just to make sure, and it is Vanessa's e-mail.

Does anyone know a cheap motel 6 by the MAX station? Application fees are killing me already. Not to mention tuition fees will kill me (overkill?). I don't want to rent a car. The car is cheap, $28/day, but there's an $18/day surcharge for under 25 year old driver. Plus airport fee, tax, etc.

Okay, I found an Econo lodge right across the Portland State University. Is this a good place or ghetto? I figure that I can use the MAX or bus to go around.

That means I still have a chance of getting called. I wonder how many interviewees are in the first group?

You can walk from PSU to the MAX (I do it every day). Probably about 5-10 blocks. Its not a bad part of town at all. I go running alone right past that hotel!

I found a good deal at a Quality Inn close to the airport. So that way I can go there easily as soon as we arrive on Friday. Sleep, refresh, go to the interview on Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we don't have to wake up early because the airport is just right there.

Is there any good place that we can take a look at that is close to the MAX line? I plan to go to the Chinatown and find a good place to eat.

I wish all of you guys luck! So that those who have been invited will eventually be accepted and those who have not been invited yet, will get the invitation soon!

Congrats Sego - way to go!!!

~above~

yes, congrats Sego🙂

Can't wait for the rest of us to hear about invites. I wonder when the second round of interviews will be and when the invites will go out for them.

I did have a nice vacation (thanks for the wishes ~above~) and it is nice to be back and able to check the forum once again. I am begining my other applications and hope to get some advice from you all. Other than USN, and so as to not put all my eggs into just two school baskets, I am looking at applying to UCSF, LECOM and possibly others (non-PCAT schools only) too. I haven't used PharmCAS yet. What can ya'll tell me to help me get started and so that the process is as streamlined as possible?

thank you.

Order your transcripts ASAP. Your school(s) have to send them directly to Pharmcas, and this is generally the "rate-determining" step, as it takes a while for registrars to get them out the door, and Pharmcas to recognize them. You have to use Pharmcas' form, so just open a Pharmcas account, print the form, and get the transcript requests in the mail. Next step would be getting your LORs sent to Pharmcas (have your profs e-submit them - its way fasters). Then work on all the other stuff at your leisure.

Use the rush/emergency service to order your transcript. Have them sent one to pharmcas and a few copies to you so that you have official transcripts in your hands ready at your disposal.

I got a email from vicki today, and it says that my application was incomplete 🙁 , they said that i didn't fill in the chem portion for my pre requiste page, but when i checked my online application a few minutes ago i filled out 12 general chem units and 12 organic chem units, i don't know what i'm missing....

Hmmm.. interesting. Do you have the labs listed? When you say units, do you mean semester credits or quarter credits? You may have to email or call Vicki if your positive everything looks good on your end. It could be some computer glitch... who knows, but I would definitely call so you can be sure you know what the exact problem is.

yea i emailed her and imma call her when i wake up tommorow. I hope it was a glitch, i calculated 16 semester credits which was 24 quarter credits. i hope everything is ok.... and yea i included that they all involve lab.

I hope interviews for the first round are still open. The new building has really big classrooms and they can fit 100 people easy so hopefully they interview 75 more people in the first round. I'm really dreaming but the only thing I can do is hope and pray. I've been fasting for the past week and will continue to fast until I hear something. I've been sleeping only 3-4 hours per day in anticipation. I've been also busy in exams for this term being extra caution to get the best grades possible so I can improve my gpa. I hope everything works out for everyone. Good Luck.

I think they limit the interviews to 50-60 people per session. It is less an issue of space than an issue of having time in one day to do one-on-one sessions with >50 people. Eat some food man. You'll need both mental and physical health once you do get an interview. If you aren't offered an interview until the next session, you could be fasting for a while.

Pharm and Sego,

thanks for the pharmcas info.

and purvipatel may I too suggest you eat some food. Not that I don't believe in the power of faith and the importance of fasting but yes it does appear the first round of interviews is already filled.

i'm hoping I will hear from Pacific sometime soon. That's one of my top choice schools along with UCSF, but Pacific is more affordable. I should've submitted my application way before the oct 1 priority. It seems like almost everyone made it to the oct 1 deadline.

Hi everyone.

I received the information packet in the mail today concerning the day of the interview. I am sure everyone else has too.... it's going to be a long day, huh? And everyone that has been worried about where to stay will have some helpful information. Vanessa put together a list of hotels and restraunts, plus a map. Have a good week!

I didn't receive anything yet! Stupid mailman is ALWAYS late on the 1st day of the week delivery. 😀 I hope the day isn't TOO long since my flight to go home is scheduled for 9pm that night.

I prayed too before and after I got my invitation. Just don't go too far with fasting.

I'm eating plenty everyday actually its really healthy for me however on the important side this is very important for me because this is the only school i'm applying to. When you have you heart on one school it is really an emotional experience. :luck: :luck:

One question guys... are any of you in APhA-ASP... the pharmacy association? Pacific REALLY loves this group.

aznkukuboi, How do you go about joining it? I went to their site a while back and it seemed as though you need to be a pharm student already. (Maybe I just didn't poke around at the site enough...??)

Did everyone get their various registrar offices to sign their names across the seals of their transcripts?

Yes. In fact, one of my colleges neglected to sign across the seal. I emailed Vanessa at Pacific about this, and she advised me to go back to the registrar and ask for a new, signed, transcript. Luckily the college was in town, and luckily they didn't charge me for the new transcript (since it was their mistake initially). Oh also, two of my schools didn't have a physical signature, but they did have the registrar's official stamp. This didn't cause any problems.

I think it depends on the school. One of the two schools I attended no longer signs or stamps across the seal because of the fact that they now use security paper. I.E., the transcript paper they print on has a bunch of official things like watermarks (similar to dollar bill paper) and there are notes on the transcript paper that say "official transcript is printed on security paper and does not require a raised seal". After my packet of evals and transcripts arrived (my online application had already been confirmed) to Pacific I received an e-mail confirmation from Vicki Simmons that my application was complete and that they looked forward to reviewing it. So, like I said I think it depends.

does anyone know when the second round of interviews will take place and when they'll begin invites for them?

Hmm... well I am a student at Pacific, so I can join as an undergrad. Costs about 65 dollars.
My advisor is actually one of the members who looks at the students' resume and transcripts.

Well I got a rejection letter from a Midwest school. I am hoping I can get in to Pacific U.

I got Pacific University confused with University of Pacific. I thought about Pacific but it isn't accredited. University of Pacfic is fully accredited. If your saying the students are having a hard time they should but not too much because it will hurt the success of the program. I also don't want to get in a one hundread thousand dallor debt and not be able to repay it because I won't be eligable to work. Not the best business decision I'd rather guarentee my hard work to something sucessfull. 😍
