G - Hey thanks for that nice post of yours. When do they usually get back to interviewees after their assigned interview date? A week after? This is going to be my first pharmacy admissions interview but certainly not my last. Hopefully. HEHEH...So there's going to be roughly 50-60 people during the first date and we only know of 5 or 6 that are going to the interview? I wonder what we are up against!!

Well...everybody who's anybody is on SDN. So they won't have a chance against us😀

You are very welcome. I don't remember the details but I know I remember reading/hearing/Vanessa telling me that you'll know within two weeks of the interview whether you are in/out/waitlisted. Personally, I think all of you folks that got in to the first group have a great shot. I think I remember hearing/reading that they had quite a group of applications to review for the first group (i.e. a lot more than 50-60) so you are certainly an elite group already.

Does anyone know what they will be wearing or bringing to the interview?

Great to know that most of you got an interview. Based on my experience I will like to give a brief detail about my interview.
Based on my past experience, The interview starts off with a speech from the dean and then introduction of the faculties. There will be breakfast and lunch. There will also be a time to ask questions and also tour the school and get to see the facilities.

Prior to the oral interview, there will be a time for a short written essay. now you have to understand that you will not be there to tell the interviewer what you mean in your written essay. I suggest you write your essay as convincing as possible. Your audience is the interviewer who will grade it. They will read the essay before you get to the oral part. Make it real and add life to it. Choose simple words and then add some little emotions to it. Just make it real. don't choose lots of long sentences.
They might ask you to write about a person who has influneced you the most. Or you will be presented with ethical issues.

My advice is that no matter what questions they pose to you, always know that your patient comes first and then others will follow. If you stick with that you will do good. Be honest in all times. It pays to tell the truth at all times. This is strictly my personal experience.
And please for all it takes, take responsibilities for your mistakes and don't hip any blame on anybody. Don't use slangs and also don't condemn any one especially teachers.

Take for instance, they asked me what I love doing best and I said cooking. Now they asked if I was oragnizing a big party and the governor of the state will be in attendance and as I was getting started with the cooking my pager went off meaning that my presence is need so bad at the hospital what do I do.

Well, I know that the governor is an important guest and there are lots of other VIP's that will be in attendance but in this case, a patient's life is at stake so the party could wait because I will leave all that I am doing to go save life. now you could tell that I based my answer on the fact that my patients comes first.

The second question was how do i make my decisions? well, I answered that I first pray for God to direct my thoughts and decisions and then I make a list assigning a high priority to the most important needs.

When you answer the questions, please don't use uhm, or stammer. keep eye contact every one minute and don't look down. Don't be too serious. relax and answer all questions to the best of your ability. One of my friend was aksed if he caught some one cheating what will she do? This tests your ethics of professionalism.

At the end of the interview, they might ask if you have any question for them. Please don't ask any question to impress them. just be your real self.
To prepare for the interview, I read the website and I discovered they had other excellent programs like Optometry. It was awesome to see how long the school has been in existence. There is a low ratio of student to faculty. You have all the best attention ever. The professors here are just the best. Quote me any where I will defend that even while sleeping. I have never seen professors so dedicated as the one we have at pacific. Honeslty speaking, I am a christian and I don't have any reason whatsoever to lie. The truth remains that the professors know thier stuff.

I was asked why I want to be a pharmacist? I ansnwered that I wanted a profession that will give me an opportunity to make a postive impact in people's life and still have time for my family.

As per dressing, please it will be good for all of you to understand that first impression matters. Dress professional and look smart. Be there on time and don't worry about anything.

Let me know if there is any other question you have for me. I understand that some people are yet to get interview, just hang in tight and hope for the best. It is not over until it is all over.

Let me know if this helps out and I will be more than happy to answer any other question you have.
Once more congrats and all the best.
Finally, this is might not be so important to you but just incase if you believe that, I advice you say a word of prayers. The bible said that the horse is ready for the battle but victory belonge to the Lord. God bless you all.

Man you guys are worrying me, I was confident with my 3.82 gpa, international health internship experience, EC's etc but with this thread dating back to July when people started turning in apps... I wont get mine in (all LOR etc) for about another week. Anyone know how much this hurts my chances or is there an application deadline of Dec 1 for a reason, ha

You are still in good shape but the earlier your turn in your application the betetr for you. I hope that calms your anxiety.

Good luck to everybody this Saturday!

So I get to school, and logon to check my email... and see an email from Vanessa!!! I was so excited - until I opened up and read what it said.

Good afternoon Seth,

I just wanted to let you know that your application came up for review with our Admissions committee earlier this week, and we noticed an irregularity with your transcript from Valencia Community College. It appears that you completed quite a bit of academic work with them – 89 hours. However, for some reason, the transcript does not list the courses taken or the grades received. I called their registrar on your behalf, and they said that you will need to order an additional transcript and have it sent our way.

She went on to say that they knew it wasn't my fault - but without it I cannot be considered for anything. I contacted my CC - and a very sweet lady said that b/c it was Valencia's fault, they would overnight an official transcript to Pacific U. So maybe they will have it for tomorrow. Needless to say, they have probably already selected the 2nd round interviewes - and because of this messup - I wont be part of it.

I want to just strangle someone, but there is no one to really blame - you cant strangle a records department... 😡

What am I going to do now? I am waiting for Vanessa to call me back and let me know what is going to happen with my app. I just cant believe it. You go over your stuff again and again and again to make sure nothing like this happens... 😕

oh well - I am going to do my Latin and fume...

~above~

Oh man! I'm so sorry...that is something totally out of your hands! I've heard that Pacific places a "rank" (not the right word, but I'm not clear on the process) on an application based on how early it comes in. Since this was clearly not your fault, I imagine you will still be considered a very early applicant and keep your high score. Also, if you talk to Vanessa today and inform her that the transcript should arrive tomorrow, hopefully she will save a spot for you, if indeed the second interview is being filled. Keep us updated!!!

Seth,

sorry to hear about the frustrating news. I agree with Pharm and think you'll still get in the 2nd round. On the bright side(which is not what you may want to hear right now, I'm sure), I find it very positive that Pacific has been proactive to help you remedy this mishap. I think they want you in their 2010class and are just facilitating the process. I myself haven't heard anything from them about my application going before the committee and being reviewed yet (so at least you know they are working on yours). I do hope you and I both hear soon on getting into that 2nd group of interviewees🙂 and I believe we will🙂

I just got off the phone with Vanessa - The way she explained it to me - my jacked up transcript is a non-issue. She said that they already have my GPAs, and all of the courses I have attended. The Transcript is used to verify the info manually entered in your application. The way she worded it, a decision has already been made concerning my app.
Whatever the decision, Vanessa wasn't giving it away. Just to let you all know, they will be inviting the 2nd round of applicants tomorrow afternoon and the beginning of next week. They might do something over the weekend, but I think they will be a little busy with the first round.

I think Vanessa could give you the worse information ever and still put a positive spin on it - I could infer good things from the way she was talking, but I truly couldn't tell if the way she talked about my app was positive or not.

In the end, today has been somewhat of a rollercoaster, and I am no closer to knowing my position - talk about a sh*ty Thursday...

P.S. Thanx again for the kind words --> they mean a lot 😳

Hey, I went to Valencia Community College (years ago!) and I am now a student at Pacific University. Did you grow up in Orlando? I went to high school at Colonial.

Good luck with everything!

HA! I went to Edgewater - are you undergrad or in one of the professional progrmas at Pacific?

Seth,

Vanessa sent me another email last night - just saying she was happy everything got sorted out and told me she would be in touch. I just cant get over how Pacific goes about the admission's process.

What school, with 1000+ applicants - is going to bother to inquire about a jacked up transcript, actually call the school on the student's behalf - and personally write three emails to follow up??? Is it because they are just REALLY wonderful people?

In my heart, I am hoping that her level of interest in this matter is related to the school's desire to invite me for an interview - but I just dont feel like I am in a position to get my hopes up. I am dangerously close to becoming self-absorbed with Pacific. I dwelled on it so much that my brother dragged me to TJ Flats for dollar beers...

What do you guys think?

In case I forget to post later - knock em dead tomorrow!!! I know you all will do great!!!

P.S. - G, lets keep up the prayers - and cross the fingers for good measure.

I greatly concur🙂

aboveliquidice,

I am in the pharmacy program at Pacific.

Just so you all know - Dean Rosenow was in a serious accident over the weekend - Please join me in saying a prayer for him - regardless of faith, every little bit helps

Oh my God, that is AWFUL! He didn't make it to the interview day because he was "caught up with extra work" of some sort. I didn't know it was a bad accident! I will def. say a prayer. He seemed well loved and respected by the students and faculty that day.

OMG...it is a bad news for me. Anyways, who gave you this information? I hope he is doing OK

Kaya31 informed me - I dont know any of the specifics of the accident - she only said that it was serious. If I learn more - I will let you all know.

I saw your post and had the Dean in my thoughts and prayers yesterday. That does explain some things about Saturday. I felt like Vanessa and Sue Stein were on edge/upset. Let's all hope that he is ok, and makes a quick recovery!

Wow, that is horrible news about the Dean! May we all keep him in our thoughts and prayers!

For those three of you that have posted interview feedback. Thank you Thank you!

~Above~ Hope we get our interview invites soon!

Now I understand why the dean did not show up on Saturday. Let's pray for him!

So how did everyone think they did on their interview? Personally, I think I did ALRIGHt!!! The curriculum itself is definitely awesome. I like how they have the modified block program and how they allow you to take a modified version of the test a second time. I was just kinda confused when I arrived to the "campus". I guess I'm not used to having only one building be called a campus. But thats besides the fact, I still love the curriculum and the program.

To all the SDNers who came to the interview, we should've came up with some type of method to figure out who is who at the interview!!!

I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed - I hope everything works out...

and thanks to those of you that posted - I didn't know that the campus in Hillsboro was a single building... I wonder how the rest of the town is. Hopefully I will get the chance to find out.

On Saturday I was really disappointed. I thought I blew it. Might have been because I was pretty nervous, and proceeded to get more nervous as I waited until one of the latest interview groups. Also, I got negative vibes from my interviewers, so didn't think they were responding to my answers well. In hindsight, part of that could have been due to their worry about the Dean...maybe their minds were elsewhere. As the day progressed and we went though various info sessions and interacted with students, I got more an more excited about the thought of going to Pacific. When it came time for my interview, I think I was just trying too hard, and thus didn't allow myself time to gather my thoughts and speak coherently. I was trying to say everything all at once! I'm really hoping I am being hard on myself, and it went better than I thought. I'm trying to be optimistic, but if I get an straight acceptance out of this, I will be extermely (and pleasantly) surprised.

I think you are being a tad bit hard on yourself. Its very difficult to judge how someone is responding to you without knowing them previously. It could just be that person's demeanor is less friendly. At any rate - you are highly qualified, and have a kind disposition - I would be surprised if you were not accepted outright.

If Pacific follows last year's procedure - 2nd round invites should go out either today, tomorrow, or wednesday. For those of you who just interviewed, a decision concerning your interview should be sent out on the 7th to the 10th. Last year it took around 10 to 12 days for the 1st and 2nd groups to get their results.

Yea they'll hear from pacific within 10-12 days if they were either accepted or rejected. For those who are waitlisted, I dont think they will hear from pacific for awhile!!!

If you get waitlisted... they develop a list - of which they give ranks and release it in March. If people decide not to attend, they begin pulling from the list at the top (#1). Last year, there was significant movement on the list - shakeitfast moved from 23 to be accepted - and outoftime was even further on the list and was accepted as well. That however was the first year - and I think more people will be willing to take a chance on Pacific this time around.

I know I am 🙂

Funny thing is everytime we were in a big group, I would look around and think "You know, there is at least 6 ppl from SDN here right now. One drove from MD by car, one is Pharm47 in "his cubicle," etc" haha, but everytime I spoke with someone new, I would try and hint to them I was from SDN. I would say "I found out from this school through message board." No luck.

Well, if anyone remembers, I was a Chinese guy wearing a gray shirt and tie with a shaved head. I didn't notice many Asian males that day so hopefully someone checked me out.

I met and remembered the following people: Mike from Utah, Mike from Philly, Kyle from Oregon, an Asian girl from Irvine, and many faces I faintly remember.

I left my interview feedback and hope you guys read it. I won't give my specific thoughts until I find out their decision. Who knows who might be browsing the boards =) Good luck everyone!

Yeah that's why I'm not going to "reveal my identity" quite yet. I know the admissions committee could figure it out if they really wanted. I'm hoping they don't have that much time on their hands!! I left a rather emotional interview feedback because I was upset...so I'm going to wait until after the decision to say I was ___ from ___ wearing ____.

Any current students have an update on the Dean? I noticed the news piece was taken off the Pacific website.

Any current students have an update on the Dean? I noticed the news piece was taken off the Pacific website.

Wow that is crazy! I just saw the news piece a half/hour ago on their front page!
I sure hope his condition is improving!

It was just a brief notice that Dean Rosenow had been in an accident while driving to the first Interview Day. Said he suffered a variety of internal and skeletal injuries, was in critical condition at a Portland hospital, and asked people to keep him in their prayers.

I wouldn't be surprised if both interview invites and acceptances/rejections are somewhat delayed. In the meantime, I'm trying to use my nervous interview energy to pray for Dean Rosenow, rather than worry about what happens with my application.

I agree with both of you🙂

I just received a voicemail from Vanessa - She said that she did receive my transcripts in the mail. She also said that she had something else to tell me, but that she would put it in an email. She sounded ok, always very professional. I hope it is nothing bad - at this point I am ok with anything. I really do hope everything is ok with the dean.

I'll be 100% honest right now. For the past 48 hrs, I have been stressing off their decisions. I even made one of those countdown trackers until the day Pacific is supposed to call back (10 days). But after hearing the news about the Dean, I don't really care anymore and I am just sick to my stomach.

The fact that he was in an accident on the way to OUR interviews, the fact that he is in critical condition, the fact that it JUST happened...it's just so sad. I said another prayer for him after reading that article and it really did put everything into perspective for me.

🙁

So, I just returned home from my long trek back to the midwest.... and I just heard about the Dean. I hope everything is okay, and he will recover fast. I am still a litlle shocked. I did get the feeling that some of the Adcomms were a little anxious about the fact the Dean couldn't make it... now I know why. As for the interview, I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I think I did good, but it's always hard to tell if they liked you, you know? I admitted from the beginning that I was nervous. I just hope I was able to say enough about myself so they have an accurate feel for who I really am. UHHH... the wait is going to kill me. I am wondering who was who at the interview. I think I know who eddie was.... not sure about anyone else. We definitely should have made some sort of way to distinguish all of us SDNers. I am going to post my interview feed back now. Good luck everyone! Keep praying for the Dean.

I just tried posted interview feedback twice, and when I click "submit feedback" it takes me to an error page. Hmm.. I guess I will try again later. Did anyone else have that problem?
