Pacific University Oregon Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was busy completing the supp app because I did not know I can start on it before submitting PharmCas... Anyway, I got both of them done... I submitted the PharmCas app on 08/10. Hopefully I can get in tier 2, or not too late...
Best of luck everyone!!! 🙂

No one knows for sure if this school uses a tier system or what the deadlines are if they do. Good luck though. I still need to submit my supp app.

Me too. I plan on submitting next week. I'm waiting for pharmcas to calculate my gpa so I figure I have a few days. What did you guys write about as for as the challenges you expect to face in Pharmacy school. Did you use all 500 words for all the essays?

This school doesn't use a tier system when it comes to application deadlines...just the standard rolling admissions.

Oh, thanks! I think I always got the 2 Pacific universities mixed up, one is in CA and one is in OR... haha

Is anyone attending it? Would it be helpful in terms of admission...?

My GPA was calculated 8/30 and was sent today. Now I just gotta finish the secondary!

8/19. Did you pay and everything? Do they have all your transcripts?

Yah I paid and everything is in. I have one prospective class listed so I hope they don't think that one is one they will be reviving transcripts for. I just emailed them will c what they say.

So who all has submitted their secondarys! Is it getting to be kinda late? Or is this still considered reasonably early?

I did...in July. Since they don't have set dates for "early" submission, I don't really know if it's considered late yet, but I wouldn't think so, since they haven't even begun to send out interview invites. I would get it in by the end of this month though 🙂

Didn't they not send invites until like 2-3 weeks before the interview last year? I thought people started getting them early october and the first interview was mid october. Also aren't they only doing 3 interview dates this year and the first one isn't until Novemeber. So we probably won't hear until after halloween?! ekk long wait!

Yes. To all your questions. November 13th is what I was told.

Kieran told me through email that secondaries submitted by mid August are considered early

So no one's going to the open house?? I canceled mine bc Kieran made it soud like it won't be worth my plane ticket.. since I can get all the tour I want if I get invited to the interview. I am still working on my supp... How long was your ESSAY?

Pharmcas takes forever to calculate my GPA argh... quick question, once they finish calculating my gpa, do they send it out to all schools or one by one?

No, I will not be attending the open house - I never received an invitation. I looked all over their website and nothing in regards to an open house for pre-pharmacy students is there. I find it a little strange, especially since I'm on their mailing list, but oh well. I wouldn't have gone anyway because I already went out there to tour the school and meet with Mrs. Bennett in the summer.

My essay was as long as it was allowed to be.

Once PharmCAS finishes calculating your GPA, if it is before Wednesday during the week, it will go to ALL schools on your designation list at once the following Monday. If it is not done until Thursday or Friday, it may be two Mondays from then.

My first essays where 350ish and my optional essay was 500. I am kind of worried about them being short. I don't know, nothing to do but wait now, does anyone know when the first interview is scheduled? I know November but do they have a date?

Oh yeah, sorry! Mandy already answered this!

Hey guys. I'm currently a P1 at Pacific U and am putting myself out here to answer any questions you guys might have about the program, faculty, or area in general. Private messages will be most ideal as I'm not on here too often. Good luck on your apps! 🙂

Thanks. Just patiently waiting for word on interviews at this time 🙂

Could you share your stats please?

my GPA was a 3.28, higher for pharmCAS but I can't remember. I went to the University of Washington. I had about 150 hours of volunteering at a hospital in Tacoma, WA. 0 tech hours. That's about it. I'm sure you guys have better stats than I do. The interview is what counts so know what you're getting yourself into and show them you are genuine about wanting to get into pharmacy 🙂

Any word around campus on when they are sending out interview invites?
I see last year it was beginning of October...

I have no idea. Only the admissions committee knows about that. Unfortunately, I can't answer any questions regarding that because I'm just a P1 student.

They sent invites out beginning of October last year, but that was for a mid October interview. If the first interview isn't until Novermber 13, my guess is halloween.

Well when did you e-submit?

Oh NO!!!! i just made a Pharmcas ID yesterday!! How does the LOR on pharmcas works? It is faster to get LOR through electronic? How does that work? I have a bunch of volunteer hours, but very minimal pharmacy exp. Last pharm exp was in 2003 for 6hr/week/6week. and I shadow a pharmacist in 2005 for a day. No way to find those people again. What should I do????

You should probably read all the instructions and FAQs on PharmCAS regarding how the LORs work.
If you are not able to contact anyone from your old work experience, perhaps you should look to professors. If still you are unable to find someone that you feel would write a strong letter on your behalf, maybe your applications should wait until next cycle. In a year's time you could maybe get some volunteer experience or something where you can establish a relationship with someone who could write on your behalf.
Sorry to sound negative, but it's kinda late in the game for this cycle to be realizing you haven't identified anyone to write your LORs.

well I just added Oregon on 9/18 but I submited touro and midwestern on 8/24

Ok, if you just added Pacific on the 18th, it should go out next Monday, the 27th. They do mailings on Mondays, only if everything is in the system by the previous Wednesday. Since yours was added after the Wednesday cutoff, that's why it didn't go out yesterday.

So, I submitted my secondary 9/7, after PharmCAS was submitted and I got the e-mail confirming that they got my PharmCAS app in mid august. I just got an e-mail yesterday saying they had confirmed everything as complete and my app was now under review. My question for folks who submitted earlier, how long did it take after you submitted everything till you got the email confirming that everything was complete (not just recieved)?

After PharmCAS sent out its first mailing in the beginning of August, they emailed me August 4th telling me they received the PharmCAS, and then another email about 20 minutes later that same day telling me everything was considered complete. I had submitted my supplemental on 07/11.

Hey guys. If you guys have any general admissions questions, contact Kieran Bennett at [email protected]. She's very helpful and responsive as an admissions coordinator. 🙂

Thanks david for the contact info.
And thanks mandy for the feedback. I do have strong reference source ( academic advisor known for 4+ years, work Supervisor ( 1+ year), Volunteer supervisor known 2+ years, and a funny genetics professor). Maybe the professor is not as strong 🙂, but iI liked her so much I also took her evolution class for no reason lolz. I just read the reference section of Pharmcas, and it looks like I dont need to wait until the references are in to e-submit. We may be classmates 🙂

You guys are doing awesome - applying early. That's the first step to getting in. 🙂

I don't feel early at all! It took 2 weeks for my application to be confirmed as complete! Mandy was early! Stupid having to pay off tuition balances before getting transcripts. :scared:

I was super early, because I knew they used rolling admissions so I wanted as early an interview as possible. That has just made the wait that much worse though, because it's been almost 2 months with no communication!

Waiting is sooooooo hard! Did you guys see interview dates were posted on their website! Also they updated class statistics to 2013. Not much changed from they year before except how many people applied! 1000! with the same number of interview spots! eeek!

Yeah...I wish their first one was before November 13th!
When I met with Kieran, I remember her saying the number of applications increased significantly the year they started participating in PharmCAS. I guess 1,000 applicants is better than 2,000 like at some other schools!
Man this is tough.

For the "additional information" part in the supplemental, do you guys think I can use sub-categories. For example

Personal Information:
one paragraph on blah blah blah

Explanation for withdrawals:
one paragraph on blah blah blah

Can I do that?

I only used it to discuss my withdraws and one below average grade. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a place to provide personal info, but I would recommend emailing Kieran Bennett to confirm.

I also used it for that reason. On an unrelated subject, I was looking at an information packet from last year and they had listed that September is the priority deadline application. Wonder if its the same for this year?
